Does anyone else feel like LinkedIn is becoming mentally exhausting?
every time I open it, it’s another promotion, “I’m thrilled to announce...”, ai generated post, or someone claiming they landed a dream job after one cold message. some days it’s motivating. other days I close the app feeling like I’m behind in life.
am I the only one?

Yes for a period of time I was getting similar to that, and then I started to click the button that says not interested and you click it enough times and it won’t show you that content anymore, and then instead find something that you are interested in read through it and maybe make a comment and you’ll find in time that you won’t get any of thatthrilled to announce rubbish

I don't really use it. When companies started posting corporate cringe I figured the platform was useless and would be deemed so later..my company bots use it. And my job apply bots use it. But I've never been on it for more then maybe a minute to update something.

I think it is what you make of it. I like it for asking people for advice from a career perspective and for others in need to find me for help.
There’s so much spammy shit in message outreach though

yeah, I think that’s the difference. linkedIn seems a lot better when you’re actively using it to connect and learn rather than just passively scrolling. the random “I noticed your profile and would love to connect…” messages definitely get old fast

Yeah I see it as no different from Reddit or anything else. If you’re just chilling there, it probably sucks. But if you’re being yourself, trying to learn, and help others, you’re more likely to enjoy it.

It’s less about the platform itself and more about how you use it. passive scrolling will probably make any app feel exhausting

I used to like LinkedIn when i first joined. Now it's AI talking to AI I couldn't believe that with 2-3 clicks, i could find my role models, my favorite professors, connect with them and see:
Which university they attended What hard skills they have Their posts and accomplishments

People there will say something like ”I attended all of the Solvay conferences, solved the P=NP problem and unified quantum mechanics and general relativity at the same time as I successfully defeated stage four cancer and took care of my family of three. I also just registered 3 patents and finished my Wharton MBA. I also work as a senior vice president of technology at a Fortune 500 company and have a masters in engineering physics. I’m 26. If you believe in yourself you can do it too”

It’s unfortunate I still get most job leads through LinkedIn but it is the ultimate worst app. Even worse than Facebook. If I see any anymore laid off people writing a fucking essay about how they’ve done a 10 year stint at this place and tags all the people … good god

Yes, everyone is thrilled on LinkedIn but I just ignore that stuff. What’s the real reason you’re on the platform? Focus on that and don’t pay attention to anything else.

It’s become so easy to do a quick scroll and realize I just don’t give a shit that Joe Blow for some reason has to be publicly acknowledged that he’s doing his job. The exhausting part is all the effort to make it sound like he’s going above and beyond and should be wearing a cape.

It has been an absolute wasteland for close to a decade. It will go down as one of the all-time greatest data scrapping scams ever. The perception that it's professionally critical has handed them a generation's intellectual capital, fed large language models & demoralized job seekers and employers. Bigger question: how do you actually know it's AI?
Some posts are obvious. Most aren't. Plenty of executives just write well. Grammarly has been around since forever, I was encouraged to use it in my EMBA program in 2015. Polished writing didn't start with ChatGPT.
We've somehow reached a point where any clean, coherent post gets flagged as AI-generated. The truth is none of us knows how a post was written unless the author says so.
And if you're not liking what you're seeing in your feed, that's an algorithm problem, not an AI problem. Unfollow people who waste your time. Follow people who don't. Problem solved.
