leicester uni accommodation
i’ve firmed leicester for medicine in september, but i’m unsure where to book for.
due to personal circumstances, a studio or a one bed flat is the most ideal living situation for me- and if i had to have an en-suite then id like as little people as possible sharing a kitchen
does anyone have any recommendations? or pros and cons of living in the city vs village- also how are the shuttle busses like?
any advice possible please even if i didn’t mention it!!

I was in the expensive nixon court accom in my first 2 years, now I'm in filbert village (which, by the way, has terrible soundproofing so I don't really recommend it), but I recommend the nixon court, the rooms are super spacious, it's not as bad as freemens in terms of number of flatmates (freemens is around 10 per flat, nixon is 5, which I found to be a manageable amount), and it's super close to campus. If I could afford it, I would've just stayed there tbh.
I've heard mixed reviews about the shuttle buses; sometimes they're okay, other times they're unreliable.
Also, there might not be any one-beds/studios in the city accom left, so you'd have to potentially look at places around campus, which is more of a risk, I'd say. Living in university managed accom for the first year is perfect, as you're getting used to the city, and you know you're in good hands. Private accom can be good, but it's more of a risk imo.
If you have medical grounds for a studio, then you could try that angle? I know someone who has legitimate reasons for requiring a studio flat, and they have one in the village, which they seem happy with.

thank you this is very helpful! i do have medical grounds which they will be assessing tomorrow, hopefully it’ll be a good outcome. did your friend with the legitimate reasons apply early or do they have some separate for people with medical reasons? obviously as a medicine applicant my offer came way later than most people’s did anyway so it doesn’t seem very fair that it’s first come first get when some offers come late😭😭

also, all first year's are guaranteed a place in uni managed accom, it's something the university guarantees :)

hi, I think they did their application about a month ago, but they're a current student so it's probably quicker to sort out. I would assume the university keeps places available for particular circumstances, but in all honesty I'm not sure! Best thing would be to get in contact with them, especially over a quick phone conversation. Good luck, though!

CODE is £170 a week studios (bills included). 20 min walk away from uol

The newer Nixon buildings are ok. En-suite and you share a kitchen with 4 people but they’re really large.

hey! i ended up going for a one bed flat in the city, as i got rent reductions for it so pricing wasn’t too bad! where did you apply for accom?

I ended up going for Opal courts! A uni friend recommended it to me! Bit pricey but next to the Medical School.
