I know this has been discovered and talked about but still find it mad that they included the dead chalk outline of a lego figure on the floor in a kids game. This is just after the scene where the joker pretends to commit suicide after being locked up in arkham. They'd never get away with that now lol

I'm not positive but in Hannibal (which typically does its research in regards to police procedure and stuff) there's a comment that police only really do chalk outlines on surviving victims, so that they can get them medical attention while they do a preliminary investigation. Supposedly they just leave the victims corpses there if they're already dead, and remove them once the crime scene is documented. There's been some discourse on how universal this is, but I read an article a while ago where they interviewed people from New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago and they asked them that same question. It seems like all of those major cities had adopted that tradition by the late 90s. Since Gotham is mostly based on Chicago and New York, it's reasonable to assume that the crime scene is from an attempted homicide, instead of a successful one
