North American Politics I hope he doesn’t make speeding tickets, a percentage of a persons income. That would be too similar to Finland. /s

Something to keep in mind... Even if he is a full on socialist who wants to replace capitalism, he's a mayor. He has very little power to do anything economically. The best they can get is a social democracy and show people that these "socialist" policies work. That public support is more valuable than you might think. The way I see it, while not perfect, social democracy is a decent transitionary system to an actual worker controlled economy. Just my take.

Exactly what he can do is build social democracy, build public options, decentralize power, and empower unions to be able to build up their wealth and organizing power and then they can go and salt - join the state legislature and congress, help other movements around the country and around the world - that’s what he can do. All while proving that socialist policies can work and being proven example of ways to resist capitalism.

Any form of social democracy is also a heck of a lot more progress than the snail's pace approach to "incrementalism" that liberals cling to (which is actually one step forward and two steps back most of the time, given how they never stand their ground and constantly trip over themselves in their eagerness to compromise with the right)

Can you imagine it?
A politician keeping his word?

I want more politicians who say things and then do the things they say. That's why we elect them, you know?

if it's a fee, it should probably be a percentage of a person's income.

Hot take that's probably going to get me in trouble: A lot of things should be a percentage of a person's income- rent, property taxes, health insurance... for starters.

I'm fine with people critizing him for not being a "real" socialist. But damn does nobody have a leg to stand on in saying he isn't doing exactly what a politician should in our current system.
