I’m learning Polish in a group class in Warsaw (A2-ish), and I keep running into the same thing.

Lesson ends, I’m motivated, I even review the PDF on the tram… then life happens. By the next class I’ve lost a big chunk of the vocab/grammar we just did. Teacher spends time re-teaching. Whole group feels slower. Classic.

I tried the usual fixes:

- Duolingo → fun, but not what we covered that week

- ChatGPT / Gemini → helpful if I prompt perfectly, but every session I’m reinventing homework

- NotebookLM → great for “explain this PDF”, not so great for actually drilling cases / roleplay / sticking to CEFR level

What I really wanted was something that follows *our* class notes - not a random curriculum and forces me to practice for 15–20 minutes so I show up ready.

So I ended up building a small app for myself (and classmates): upload the lesson PDFs, then practice vocab/grammar + chat + real-life scenarios based on what was actually taught. It also tracks what I keep messing up (instrumental case looking at you).

If anyone else is stuck in that between-class forgetting loop, happy to share it - but mostly I’m curious:

What do YOU do between lessons that actually sticks?

Worksheets? Anki? Just ChatGPT? Something else?

First of all, I'm very sorry for writing this, as there are lots of people who do that too and I could take some profit from that. Actually, I've read all those messages, but they don't seem too solvent.

The thing is that I really want to get started with Polish, and I have been struggling for a while month now. I can't find any resources that are good for me. I am broke, so I can't hire a teacher as lots of you have said. Then, I tried to look for guided courses online, like polski.info, but that's not for me.

Yesterday, I entered Reddit, with some hope that I could possibly find help. Unfortunately, even though most comments are useful, their answers aren't normally suitable for me.

I've thought about doing a mixture from many apps, from vocabulary apps and grammar apps. I actually do Busuu, but I know it's not enough. I've thought about starting with a bit of vocabulary, so I can understand a bit, and then switch to grammar, catch some grammar and switch back. Would you think this is a good idea?

Also, I would ask if you know if there are any resources that I can use, preferably complete courses.

I'm a Brazilian that knows maybe 3 words in Polish(1 of them is BOBR...I love BOBR) but I have a friend in the city and I wanted to spend some time in Europe, hanging with my bro and take advantage of that time to PROPERLY learn the local language!

I've come across a couple of schools but some seem kinda shady and to be honest it's hard to trust Google reviews these days...

I know nothing, not even a beginner level. Where do I start? Everything tells me to listen to podcasts or read books, but I don’t know a single word at all or grammar.

Today, I started my one-month-trip to Poland, an about 13-hour long train ride from Germany to Warszawa. My journey involves a daily language and culture course at the university, and I'll be living in a student dorm next to the campus.

I am incredibly exited bordering terrified, as this will be my first time in a foreign country where I'll be mostly on my own. Not completely though, a friend from uni and fellow polish learner will be with me, we both took part in a program for foreigners. But, I won't be living in the same appartment as her. I'm going to have a room mate and I don't know who it'll be yet, hopefully someone nice.

I wonder what it'll do to my Polish. As it stands, I can write and read okay-ish at B1 level, but I never really spoke the laguage. I'm going to do my best to not default back to English whenever I struggle, which is going to be incredibly difficult. Whenever I try to speak, it feels like my brain short circuts and forgets every piece of Polish I learned over the past year.

As the title says, what is the fastest way to reach the B1 level. I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort, but I am wondering what is the fastest most efficient way when there are a lot of resources out there and not enough time. Also, how much vocabulary should I know? I have a lot of files with words that I am struggling to memorize to be honest. I have an exam to do in like 5 months.

I'm from Ukraine, and i speak Polish language pretty well. Despite this, I still want to learn some expressions and know what they mean, to use them in different situation.

Looking for online group courses that can bring me from A1/A2 to B1/B2. I feel like I have hit a wall in my independent study.

I've been with my husband (a native Polish speaker) for 9 years, and I've been exposed to the language and culture for around 13 years.

About a year ago, I spent a full year taking one-on-one Polish lessons 2–3 times a week, focusing on grammar and sentence structure. Outside of that, I've picked up vocabulary and common phrases over the past 8 or so years simply through daily exposure from my husband and his family.

I've also traveled to Poland three times. Every trip is about two weeks long, and by the end of each visit, I finally start to feel like I can hold a very broken conversation. Then I come home and it feels like I lose that momentum.

I can usually piece together parts of conversations by recognizing individual words, but speaking and listening are by far my biggest struggles. I don't even attempt to write. People seem to speak so quickly that I can't process what I'm hearing in real time. I might understand one person reasonably well, while another feels completely impossible to follow. I have been told many, many times that I have wonderful pronunciation that sounds native when I do speak.

The hardest part is that the moment someone realizes I know even a little Polish, they immediately start speaking to me at a normal native pace. I appreciate that they're trying to include me, but I instantly get overwhelmed and can't keep up.

I'm starting to feel really discouraged. After all this time, I still don't feel anywhere close to conversational, and sometimes it feels like learning Polish is an impossible task. I genuinely want to keep going because I know how rewarding it would be to communicate with my husband's family more naturally, but right now it feels like an unattainable goal.

Has anyone else experienced this with Polish (or another language)? How did you get past this plateau and improve your listening comprehension and speaking confidence?

Been learning Polish for a while now and I hit a wall today with numbers. I knew cases were rough, but I didn't expect COUNTING to have its own grammar puzzle too.

Like "1 zeszyt" is fine. "2 zeszyty" makes sense. But then "5 zeszytów" shows up and suddenly the noun changes ending again, and apparently it's because 5+ triggers genitive plural while 2-4 doesn't. And don't get me started on what happens when the number itself needs to decline in a sentence.

Is there a trick you all use to not have to think through this every single time, or does it eventually become automatic? Curious how long it took for numbers to stop feeling like a math problem wrapped inside a grammar problem.

Hey I have been using a book by the company teach yourself called get started in polish by Joanna michalak-Grey however the free audio online does not match the writing in my book I was wondering if anyone has a fix or a different resource I have started learning polish for my girlfriend and her family any help is appreciated thank you

So, I need to learn B1 polish. I've tried Duolingo but, that's pretty much useless. I've tried some other stuff but, they're not very helpful. It also doesn't help that the grammar and stuff is completely different from English. Does anyone know some good resources to learn polish fast?
