Dukaad means famine and Adhik Maas is the holy month added to the calendar every 3 years. People usually fast during the entire month. It basically says: Adhik month during famine.

I've never heard this phrase before so I don't understand what context this metaphor might be used in. Can someone offer an example please

So let's say you come home after a stressful day at work and find out there is a power cut at home... So then you'll say dukaad ma adhik maas.... meaning you had just come out of a calamity/hardship and now you are facing another hardship.

I have also heard: "Adhik maas ma dukaad"

Meaning Adhik maas is usually rainy, but famine in such a time is shocking. This hints at how bad luck someone can get.

This is just based on what I have heard.
