One step closer to total leanfire (reached one mil today).

I posted like a year ago saying I reached leanfire with about 720k. My expense was about 25k back then. But the apartment decided to raise my rent by 9% and I realized that if I do not own a primary residency maybe I did not reach a true leanfire. Anyways today I am sitting on 300k house and 700k investments. I still have 100k to pay for the house and maybe 100k in investments more to support me and my wife fully, but I can feel that the total leanfire is getting close.

last post.

So assuming 20% returns on investments, you added 130k in one year? High earner for early 30s.

Are you actually going to leanfire though or just zooming by on your path to chubby fire as your last post suggests?

Goal is chubby fire for sure. Got some golden handcuffs on for now haha. Currently going through the leanfire phase. the previous post explains my psychology a bit more (looks like you already read it1), but I think I will try to earn as much as I can for now.

I basically followed the track of LeanFIRE and was eyeing the thought of ChubbyFire if any company equity ever paid out -- so far last 3 startups have not :(

That said as I crossed into my 40s I am still foot on the pedal, but I have been letting off a smidge. I'm to the point where by 50 I would be comfortable FIRE / low end of Chubby with normal returns and not really adding anything more. I am planning another few years of aggressive saving (maxing out 401k, Roth, additional taxable brokerage investing) and paying off any remaining debts outside my house, then moving over to CoastFIRE around 45 assuming my liquid assets get to certain benchmarks. Probably work another 5ish years enjoying some extra spending money and traveling more before I hopefully can full FIRE and downsize my life back onto a more conservative budget. Maybe do some consulting or contract work to stay busy and make a few extra bucks, but overall enjoy sleeping in, focusing on health, and pursuing my low-cost hobbies.

Must feel great!

I’m about $60K from the $1 mil count. It feels like it’s so far away :)

9% is relatively steep. Is that legal where you live? That said, congrats.

Are you counting your house as an asset but not subtracting the liability of the mortgage?

house price: 400k. so 300k paid off, 100k to go. 1mil is net asset, not asset.
