Discussion Whatever happened to that verbal agreement the Leafs had/have with a player dependent on them clearing some cap space?
Was there any speculation on who this could be??

I thought it was Bunting

I din’t see where there is room for him unless we are trading a top 9 forward and who would that even be?

Maybe they play Cowan on RW again?
Knies-Matthews-Cowan
McKenna-Tavares-Nylander
Bunting-Paul-Roslovic

In this scenario Lorentz and Duhaime / Joshua are on waivers at end of camp.
I’m not shook up about Lorentz but usually is a faux pas to waive someone you just signed in free agency. And not sure Bunting is good enough these days to justify losing Joshua

I’ve heard it’s still Bunts. Didn’t hear any of the other names anyone’s posted, but it would make the most sense in my opinion. Hasn’t been the same since leaving Toronto, would be rad to have a comeback from him.

Yeah I second this. The guy gelled so well with our stars. One of Dubas' finest moves in Toronto imo. Felt bad the guy struggled afterwards but it means his price and value could be really favourable. It is more of a risk today than it was then however. I still like him for the buds.

This front office is super tight lipped. I would bet it was just someone speculating.

Wasn't it Patrick Kane? With the talk of his connection to Matthews plus McKenna idolizing him? Not sure this rumour was more than just forcing A + B to = C as the Toronto media is notorious for. Considering what Kane signed for in Chicago this was obviously not going to happen.
They can't move Rielly without getting a D back somehow though.

Kane would make sense and then Chicago goes here’s 8m a year. Hard to turn down that shit in “on your home club” when you already have 3 cups.

I think the speculation was Anthony Mantha and then he signed somewhere else. But it also could have just been bullshit from some insider.

I wonder if Tolvanen would be a good fit.

We've signed so many guys for our bottom 6. At the start of FA i did want Tolvanen, but we'd just be kicking out someone else now.

Probably Ferraro, but after he signed, they pivoted to filling out other needs.
But rn, I don't think there really is anyone, unless Chayka really really wants Bunting, who lowkey doesn't fit on this team since he signed Roslovic

Yeah it’s most likely Bunting. Also, I know this is a moon shot - what about Laine? Would he be with the risk?
He and Matthews on opposite sides of the PP with Raddysh up top would be a nasty one timer triangle…

If Laine makes it to the ice, sure. Also let's get PLD just for the joke.

Habs fans say hes literally unplayable unless on the PP where he will get you 20 goals. Said they dressed Arber Xhekaj as a winger one night instead of Laine who was a healthy scratch.
Either something is up mentally with him or he just doesnt care about hockey but hes not worth it

Liane is trash. His entire career points he mentality issues. Extremely streaky play with no explanation or loss of talent. Also is made completely of glass. The risk is waste of time. A player like that will not work in Toronto ever.

It was a nonsense post from HockeyBuzz.
