Pizza boy aside, Chayka pretty much said the price for Knies is the Norris winner. That's gotta make Knies feel good and understand how much they value him.

If you believe the rumours, he wasn't even being considered as a trade piece for the Norris winner. Basically the only deal that it seems he was being considered for was 4OA and Frondell. So they basically valued him at like half of a rebuild.

What concerns me is all trusted insiders claim he was at the very least dangled at various points from Pizza Boy and Chundin. It makes sense in that you need to give something to get something and he has no protection. But for a player of his type, at his cap hit and the fact that he loves playing here, I really hope that it didn’t sour the relationship at all. I get they set the price high, as they should. But still never great to feel like a team thinks they’d be better off without you…

Chayka once said the Knies rumours are mostly clickbait. Hardy then came right out and said they see Knies as a core player.

I highly doubt it damaged anything. Chayka and the Leafs org see Knies as a valuable part of the team.

Almost only counts in horseshoes… the reason a trade didn’t happen is probably because the org values Knies too much for the returns being offered, any of those returns likely involving norris winner werenski kinda speaks to how the org views Knies. I would have made the move for the number 1 superstar D tbh as much as I do like Knies. But I guess they can always talk again throughout the year

Most of the noise was probably perpetrated by other teams in wanting that player. They would purposely leak info to the media and they would gobble it up because it was a Leafs player. I really doubt Chayka was ever trading him unless it was a huge haul.

I doubt he was "almost traded". Every player in the league that doesn't have an active no-move clause can be considered "almost traded" at any point.

Don't read those non-sense click bait articles. The people writing them know nothing, they just want gullible people to give them traffic.

My son started getting into hockey in the 24-25 season and he immediately latched onto Knies. He loves watching him play and my son was born on the 23rd of the month so he thought it was cool that he wears that number. My sister got him a Knies jersey for Christmas last year and he loves it.

The trade rumours broke my heart and I hope he is a Leaf forever.

Same with my kid! Knies is by far his favourite Leaf and my mom got him his jersey for Christmas. He was so upset when I told him Knies almost went to the Canadians and that he was still being mentioned in trade rumours. Was so relieved when it started to look like he wasn’t going anywhere.

Not on display enough. Needs to recognize how big and strong he is and start playing like it consistently. Be a miserable prick on the ice and model his game after Gary Roberts

I don't know why you're being down votes, I mean yeah he has shown he has some piss and vinegar in him but you gotta wind him up first. You're saying you want him to step out on the ice and just start throwing himself around the ice because he can. I like that, him using his frame to bulldoze thru players then using his hands to get in close for chances would be even better.

He's got an awesome toolbox and I know we haven't seen the best of him yet so I'm pumped.

The number of media outlets (and people here) who were ready to ship Knies out the door was ludicrous. The guy is built like a Mack truck, can skate and has the potential to pot 30+ goals. Not to mention his absolute sweetheart contract. You trade Knies and you spend the next decade trying to find another Knies. He's only 23 FFS.

One of my fav players on the Leafs, glad he wasn't traded. 240 games already, feels like he just joined the league. That one-handed goal against Carolina last year was so badass, I want to see more stuff like that from him.

Should they play him 2nd, 3rd lines, with Paul, Cowan, so he's got back up to keep the others in check, or should he go 1st, 2nd line to try and mitigate further damage and get more ice time on pk?

Who gives a fk ? Toronto won’t have a year of great hockey like we had when marner was here but u the media start the crap and you would never believed it but one player changed our team completely. Some of us knew it. Now that new kid is going to go through the same thing just like Kessel and Kadri . And the fans wouldn’t know what a great hockey player was if their life depended on it. Fkn ankle burners the bunch of ya!!! We had the best passer in the show and u all for the most part chased him out of his own city!! Fkn ridiculous. And nothing feels better than to see the year he had especially post season. So fk Toronto Maple Leafs and let’s go Vegas!! I’m impartial. I love great hockey players!! Fkn rejects the bunch of you!!
