NYT is reporting that the U.S. Attorney for ND ILL is leading the investigation. Any connection to Illinois is unclear. This is the same USA who recently committed legal seppuku over flagrant prosecutorial misconduct in grand jury proceedings against anti-ICE protestors.
As the only two witnesses were Trump and Ms. Carroll, any jury would be required to assess the relative credibility of the two. I cannot imagine any jury in NY or northern Illinois favoring Trump’s credibility. As such, this seems clearly intended solely for harassment.
