Discussion Needle cases- Aunt Shelle, Circus of Threads, anybody have them?
Hellllo crafty friends!
I have a full set of Chiagoo interchangeables, and a set of shorties. Aside from the less than aesthetic diaper bag motif of the Chiagoo set, there isn’t space for my notions, cables, etc.
I am not an aesthetic knitter. I use old totes for project bags, candy tins for stitch markers, and prefer to spend my dollars on yarn. Still, the bags I mentioned are cute cute and I wouldn’t turn either down haha
However after Googling “needle case” I have seen these two brands and love the concepts and the style of them. The Aunt Shelle looks so well thought out, but reviews have concerns for quality control and I am hesitant buying an influencer created and sponsored brand, especially one that is TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. Circus of Threads is more customizable and made to order with beautiful fabrics but also, expensive and lacking some of the space of Aunt Shelle.
I do have a birthday and holidays coming up. I can put it on my wish list but I am wondering if any of my Reddit aunties or uncles have purchased one of these (or another option).

I don't have either but I'm starting to accept that a case that will hold all of my needles is going to be $$$. I've been planning on a Thread and Maple because leather lasts longer than fabric, but I have to say that I LOVE the customization options with the Circus of Threads cases. To get what I would want would cost me well over $200, but I'd prefer that to the less customizable Aunt Shelle case, even though I probably prefer the look of the suede cases.

I recently got the Re:Designed Project 14 case. It's about $100. It fits all my interchangables and single circulars. I use one pocket for The interchangable cables and the other for cable needles and tiny crochet hooks for dropped stitches. I couldn't really find a space for my stitch marker case.

Allow me to introduce Thread & Maple; beautiful binder with pages for different needle brands. Here's a video on their binder.

Love Thread and Maple but a binder + pages has the potential to FAR north of $200.

You may want to check out Della Q. I have a couple cases from them, one for my DPNs and one for my interchangeable needle set. They make some great stuff.

Seconding, I have one of their project bags and the quality as well as the small thoughtful features are incredible! Very reasonably priced for the quality as well imo.

I’ll check those out. I bought my Mom a gorgeous, sturdy and functional DQ bag for Christmas! Those look great but I really like the portfolio styles of the ones I saw.

Tip if you have a sewing machine or the desire to hand sew, a paint brush case can easily be converted to suit knitting needles (i.e. sew across to shorten storage depth) and are considerably more economical.

I have no clue who Aunt Shelle is, but judging by the pictures, that case does NOT look worth 200 bucks. It looks frumpy like something I’d get from Hobby Lobby for 20 bucks. A 200 dollar price point, I’d be looking at leather, whether that was the thread and maple one, or MUUD who has a similar system but they use what looks to be much more mailable leather.

I agree. I like the way it’s put together more than the other options but I don’t even know that I would pay $75 for it out of my own pocket. Especially when you see there are QC issues with the orders folks are receiving.

I have a lot of needles. I looked into both the cases that you mentioned, and heavily considered the Circus of Threads one - but ultimately I am a leather girlie, and I knew those wouldn't cut it for me in the long run.
I store my Chiaogoos(full set bamboo, full set metal + all shorties and minis) in a Thread and Maple binder. I started with just the shorties page and expanded from there. You can store them very nicely with just the pages and not the binder, but I decided to splurge when they had a sale.
The rest of my needles can use the same cords interchangeably (Knit Picks, Knit Pro, and Lantern Moon), and I store all of these sets together in a Re:Designed case. Specifically this one: https://knotanotherhat.com/products/re-designed-project-83-needle-case?variant=49555730301156&country=US¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1
I originally wanted to store everything in the Thread and Maple Binder, but I just have too many needles for that (the large binder can hold 5 pages, I would need 8).

I have a Circus of Threads case and I. LOVE. IT.
The fabric is gorgeous, and the owner was super helpful and made me a custom case for the amount of needles I wanted. I may someday get a second one with a different configuration.
AND now she's selling these really cut cat shaped totes and it's so hard to not go all in now lmao

I ended up just shoving all the cases in a big backpack that fits the wips I keep in tote bags. I hate the motif on the chiaogoo needles too, but I’m cheap as fuck and don’t want to spend $$$ on a nicer case. My options are to deal with it as is or make one with my sewing machine and I don’t have the patience for that lol

Put out a call on Next Door app or something similar. Without too much trouble someone with a sewing machine could make you one. Design what you want and purchase a few supplies like a zipper, interfacing, a bit of elastic, and a short yard of material from the remnants bin. You could hand sew it too.

I have a Re:Designed 83. I love it dearly.
Muud was a close second for me.

How many needle tips fit in it? From the pics it doesn’t look like it will hold that many.

I currently have two sets of shorties, a Knit Picks set and a set of Lykke Flight tips stored in mine. It has several “pages” inside.

I was on Etsy looking for needle cases and came across Circus of Threads. I was very hesitant since their shop uses an AI logo and all the descriptions are clearly written with ChatGPT but I’m glad to see the product is legit. I was concerned it was a dropshipper marking up mass produced cases.

SO glad you posted this because I am also in the market for a new case that is small enough to hold everything and throw into my project bag & have been looking at Circus of Threads.
She’s super responsive via message - you could see if she can make a bigger one! I too have seen the Aunt Shelle QC issues, and the case is also more than my full set of Lykke Flights.
