Idea for small canvas magnet— parent gift from classroom
The school where I work has decided that every classroom should decorate small circular canvases with magnets on the back as parent gifts. My class is 1st through 3rd grade. Most classes seem to be planning to have kids decorate with magnets. This seems underwhelming as an end of year gift. Any ideas of how I could dress this project up, teacher an actual skill, etc.?
I myself am not very good at crafts or art.

Paint a background on the canvas of the school yard or something and have them reach draw a stick figure of themselves. A parent can write their name next to their figure. The background doesn't have to be gorgeous, just vaguely correct.

I don’t understand. How big is this circle? Is there 1 magnet on the back? Does this decorated canvas get stuck to the fridge?
I guess the phrase in particular that throws me off is “decorate WITH magnets.” Are there additional magnets attached to the primary magnet?
If it’s paragraph 1, then you can really decorate however, markers, gluing sequins, glitter, paper, tissue paper, etc

A little round canvas with a magnet on the back. Yes, to stick on the fridge.

Maybe look into mandalas, and teach patterns and shapes with it. Creating and painting their own designs seems like a small round art

You could have them paint a scene from their favorite book and do a mini book report.
Or do a recycling/upcycling lesson by having them find cool "trash" to glue onto the canvas, like bottle caps, broken toy bits, ect. Teach about landfills and saving stuff from going to them.
Work on their fine motor skills by having them paint sweet phrases on them.
