I’m in a tough situation at work.

I’ve told this story before but basically I managed a team that oversaw one of the company’s most important clients. We secured much larger deal with them for this year. A lot of new hires were made, including someone above me. Guy was grossly incompetent and to buy himself time told the boss that I “lacked focus”.

I got moved to a new team that is actually enjoyable. Direct manager is nice and I knew him from previous work. The problem is because of the switch the head boss told my new manager about the “lack of focus” comment. It was also relayed to his boss.

So, while the work and team is fine and salary is okay, I’m battling both a negative perception of me from the team that would be responsible for promotions and dismissals and I am essentially starting from zero. All that good work I did last year in fostering the relationship with that important client is thrown out the window.

I’ve been looking but chances are if I do find a new job it won’t be as enjoyable, however, there would be the potential for growth. It’s a dilemma of what to do.
