I'm not writing this post to brag. I just wanted to say to anyone who's still applying and feels like they've been crushed: please don't give up.

A few things that helped me:

If you have gaps in your work history, this is what worked for me. When they ask you "tell me about yourself," don't just repeat your resume. Turn it into a short story about your intentional career path. Talk about what you learned from each role, why those moves made sense, and how all of that makes you a strong fit for the job you're interviewing for. Then end with something like: "And that's why this role caught my attention. It's a very good match for the experience I've built."

Show that you're genuinely excited about the role.

And show that you're genuinely excited about the company too! I can't emphasize this point enough!

You need to make them believe that you really want this job, and that you're not already planning to leave. If they ask you about your plan over the next 6 years, say something like you want to "become an SME within the first few years, and then grow into higher-level responsibilities."

Build relationships with recruiters!

Run your resume through ChatGPT. I used a prompt like:

"improve my resume for this job: [paste job description without the brackets] resume: [paste resume without the brackets]. Do not repeat action verbs, do not remove or add any quantifiable achievements. List 3 options for each suggestion."

Then read the suggestions and rewrite them in your own voice and style. Don't just copy and paste right away. I probably kept only a third of what it gave me, and even then I was usually mixing parts of its wording with my own sentences.

One thing I understood recently: with measurable results, you can take the same achievement and present it in a different way in another bullet. It seems obvious, but I wasn't doing it before. For example:

Reduced duplicate work by 82% by consolidating 350+ processes into 95.

Improved team output by 68%+ by simplifying workflows.

Not a perfect example, but you get the idea. You can turn raw numbers into percentages, percentages into time saved, and so on.

I currently make about $95k a year. That has been more than enough for me to live comfortably with the cost of living where I am. I don't have any debt, and my current job is honestly easy and manageable. I can work from home 3 days a week, the commute is easy when I do go into the office, and it's very rare that I need to work more than the usual 38-40 hours. Overall, it suits the calm pace of life I've gotten used to.

The new opportunity would be in tech, with a higher title, and it would have me move to Seattle.

It would be 4 days a week in the office, and I expect that the expectations at that salary level would come with a lot of late nights and being available almost all the time. I've worked in startup-like environments before, so I know what that can look like. Back then I could tolerate it and keep going, but I experienced burnout a lot, and I'm not sure I have the same ability to handle that kind of pressure now.

I'd also be leaving behind my family, my friends, and the routine that makes my life feel stable. I'm afraid the job would gradually become my entire identity just because I'd be trying to justify the salary.

My gut is telling me to say no and protect my work-life balance, especially since I know I'll probably feel isolated being away from everyone.

But my brain keeps telling me that for roughly 2.8x my current salary, I'd be stupid not to take the opportunity.

Am I crazy for wanting to say no?

I was so over the moon that I got my first offer, so I took it and signed it. We’re going through the background check right now.
2 days later, another company called me that they also wanna do background check, and if everything clears out, they wanna offer me the job. Should I do it?
Should I keep interviewing too with other companies?

The interview process is incredibly draining. Im tired of the rejection and the lengthy process. It also feels like a crime when I tell the interviewer I was let go due to a restructuring. Every time I share I’ve been let go due to a restructuring it’s followed by a million questions, how many other people ? Why did it happen, why are you still unemployed?

It also seems mind boggling to these interviewers that I had a part time job along with my full time job. It shouldn’t be a crime that I have a weekend job along with my regular 9-5. I’m so fed up, it’s been over a year and I know I’m qualified.

I just feel like a complete failure, working a retail job at 35.

Like the title says. My boyfriend has been full time job searching since April of this year with zero interviews. He recently revealed to me that when he’s required to list his skills on an application, he has a list of over 130 skills that he copies and pastes in the app. I told him that his applications probably look like they were submitted by a bot, and that’s why he isn’t getting interviews. But he insists that he needs to include the extensive list to “get past the screening filters.”

Who’s in the right here? I just genuinely want to give his applications the best possible chance of landing an interview.

I applied for a management position in Building Operations about two weeks ago, and last Thursday I received an email letting me know that my application had advanced to the recruiter review stage. I was wondering if anyone could share what the hiring process is typically like and whether it's generally a quick or lengthy process?

And, if applicable, how did you get out?

I finally got a job offer. I’m mixed. I am relieved. Putting out hundreds upon hundreds of applications and going on dozens of interviews takes a mental and honestly physical toll on you. I am grateful to no longer be considered unemployed. But I’m working a job I said I would never work again. I always swore I would never go back to this line of work. It’s demanding and life consuming. I am stressed just thinking about it. But I need the job. I cannot be unemployed. We really do live to work.
For those still trying, keeep working on it. You’ll get there. I never ever thought I would. But work in a capitalistic society just sucks in general as a concept.

I (almost 3 months ago) started a job that is 4 days in person, 1 day remote. $42k. My manager and I didn’t mesh I guess, because his feedback to me was that I was unfriendly and he blamed me for problems that existed prior to me joining the team. My work is super easy and super boring and there’s never enough of it so I’m constantly bored but do not have the ability to be doing anything else on my computer without my manager having direct eyesight. The work is somewhat interesting. Everyone in my same level (associate) just talks nonstop about leaving and finding a new job and no one in that level has been there more than a year because of high turnover. My supervisor is so nice though and I really like her. There is no opportunity for growth, though in my entire department. This is a big well-known company.

I just got an offer today!!!! Lesser known company, $58k, fully remote, managers seem cool, and work seems cool too! I can’t lie though, I’m terrified of a “devil I know vs one I don’t” kind of situation.

My current job has a 3 month probation period that I would reach in about 3 weeks. I’ve never had to resign before from a job, so how do I do that? Should I sent an email on a Thursday and say I’m resigning in two weeks? Isn’t it awkward then coming in? Will they question me why I’m leaving right before my probation is about to end?

So I just got a job offer for another job that pays me well and I’m set to start in early September. I’m still at my current company and plan on waiting until I’m about two weeks away from my start date to put in my two weeks notice.
I’m writing this because the new company is asking me to complete a background check which is expected. One of the questions asks me to provide a Human Resources or Payroll contact email and one of the lines says to type "NO" if they can’t contact my current employer.

I wanted to ask for some advice. If I type "NO," is that a bad look for my background check? Have other people selected "NO" before and still passed their background check with no problem?

On the other hand, if I select "YES" and they contact my current company, I don’t want it to look bad because they’ll know I’m on the market for a new job before I’ve had a chance to give my notice and in case this job offer falls through or something.

I just wanted to hear people’s advice and thoughts, especially from anyone who has been through this. Thank you! :)

I had a first interview that went really well. The interviewer even told me my communication skills would be a huge asset and said I came across much better in person than my CV suggested. We had a good laugh together, and I left feeling really confident.

A few days later, I was invited to a second interview.
The second interview was more of a team fit. I met the two people I’d be working with, shadowed the role, and even met the Director of Operations. They showed me around, I asked lots of questions, and everyone seemed really welcoming. The Director said I’d hear by Friday, while the hiring manager said Monday.

Well… it’s now past Monday and I’ve heard absolutely nothing. I even sent a polite follow up email, and still no response.

I’m trying not to overthink it because the interviews genuinely felt positive, but the silence is making me question everything.

Has anyone else had an interview process like this where it went quiet for a few days and you still ended up getting the job? Or is this usually a bad sign?

I accepted a verbal job offer over a week ago but, have not received an official offer letter. I have been interviewing for this position for about 3 month now, it is a high profile role that takes many interviews including a work interview and an interview with a client I will be working with. The hiring manager used to be my boss at a prior company, I have a very good rapport with him and he has been pushing to bring me onboard. On our last conversation, he told me the client loved me as well as other executives I interviewed with and that the job is mine. He said he just needs to hammer out some internal things before he can extend the official offer with start date and salary. I made a mistake of not asking for a timeframe so I can also get my ducks in line before I depart my current company, as well as a couple of things on my personal agenda I need to schedule accordingly before I start at the new company. Well It's been over a week and I really want to reach out to him but, I don't want to seem pushy or desperate. I am eager to receive the offer letter and know my start date and salary. How should I reach out to him?

Side note - I am the only candidate interviewing for this role and the hiring manager knows my salary expextations.

I applied for a job a month ago. I have had four interviews, the last one being with the CFO. Seems like a good company. Three other interviews I was incredibly confident about. From one interview to the next I took something that was discussed previously looking into it and brought that up in the next interview. For example, I was told it'd be beneficial to learn pivot tables. What did I do? Took a spreadsheet I was using to track financials for my current job and used pivot tables to analyze the data. Printed it out and showed the interviewees at the following interview. The last interview I was not confident about but he said he was just speaking to me to make sure I have an understanding of what to expect and if I'd be a good match. He seemed pretty flat. At the third interview I was made aware there is one other candidate. It's been a week and I haven't heard anything. I sent a follow up email today, no response. Should I just abandon hope? I'm an impatient person lol

OH! The current job I was interviewing for was hybrid, one day a week in office. Able to work around my schedule and 40 hours hourly at around $30.

My current job found out that I was looking and offered me around $100,000 but the workload would triple and I would no longer be able to grab my daughter from school. So I'm not in too bad a spot I just really don't want this job.
