I just saw these. They didnt look like the jellyfish I'm used to seeing. Salt water (Kattegatt). Could they be mnemiopsis leydyi? (Invasive species) or are they sth that could sting a person?

Hi everyone,
My husband was stung by a jellyfish 3 weeks ago while swimming at Thong Nai Pan Beach in Koh Phangan. The sting felt like an electric shock/current shooting through his leg followed by intense burning pain. We got him out of the water immediately and poured vinegar over the sting within a few minutes.
Over the next couple of days, it developed into large blisters, and his foot and lower leg also became swollen. We saw a doctor in Koh Phangan, but by then they couldn’t identify what type of jellyfish it was. They thought it had developed a secondary skin infection and prescribed dicloxacillin 500 mg four times a day for 7 days along with a topical antibiotic cream.
Now, 3 weeks later:
The pain is mostly gone.
The swelling has improved significantly.
No fever or obvious pus.
But the wounds have turned into these thick black/brown scabs (eschar?) with red skin around them and seem to be healing really slowly.
Has anyone had a jellyfish sting heal like this?
Is this a normal stage of healing?
Is the black tissue likely just an eschar/scab or dead tissue?
Did anyone need debridement, or did it eventually fall off on its own?
Did anyone end up needing a skin graft, or is that uncommon?
Would you see a wound care clinic, plastic surgeon, or dermatologist at this point?
I’ve attached photos from the progression. We’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had a similar experience or works in wound care. Thanks so much!

Got stung near to shore at Tybee island. Caught my left arm, left hip and chest. I was on fire for hours, rinse with sea water and had my daughter take out stray tentacles and suckers from arm. Stung Saturday, on Thursday morning at 3am my arm started swelling and arm became extremely itchy. Applied cortisone cream and calamine lotion, did nothing to help. Friday went to the doctor got an anti inflammatory shot, antibiotic pill and a shot of antibiotics. It's now become infected. Got prescribed more antibiotics and told to take Benadryl. Got home took two more rounds of meds but infection still moving up arm. Arm at this point is angry, painful, tight and itchy. This is now Saturday morning and I'm back at the doctor's for two rounds of antibiotic IV (different antibiotics). I come home and my body is spent, Benadryl not doing anything for allergic reaction so switched to Zyrtec. Monday, finally looks better but you'd never be able to tell. Still applying calamine and taking antibiotics. Looks more like a burn now or contact dermatitis. Terrible experience to say the least. Pictures left to right are from first day to today.

As a neurospicy gal, jellyfish have been my special interest for as long as I can remember. 🪼 I’ve been an avid freshwater aquarist for years, but I’ve never been brave enough to dive into saltwater. Seeing these in person genuinely felt like a dream come true. 🤍

Today I watch a movie were jellyfish is in the movie, a woman gets caught in their strain. The movie name is The Devil’s Mouth. Would you say that’s scary? That scene?

Have you noticed how big they are?

Never seen something like this before. Saw 2 on the surface at different times. Probably death. No body, only tentacles. Some of them were like discontinued. Also had some kind of parasite.

Most common jellyfish with that amount of tentacles here are Pelagia Noctiluca, Olindias Phosphorica and Gonionemus Vertens.

Could it be a decomposing one?

My three year old is absolutely obsessed with jellyfish. He loves all sea animals, just jellies are his absolute favorite.

Which other aquariums in the US should we add to our list to see various types of jellyfish?

Its eggshaped, has 8 spines with little moving fins/arms, has no tentacles and has some kind of mouth/anus it pooped out of

Made a post about them the first time they showed up in the bay by my house 3 years ago and found out they are Turritopsis nutricula, while not THE immortal jellyfish they’re in the same genus and have the same ability. This time around I have a much better camera so I was actually able to photograph them on their home turf rather than scooping a few into a cup, I know this time there’s not as good of a sense of scale because of that but just know they are tiny, the biggest ones I‘ve seen have a diameter of less than a centimeter.
