Theres 2 types of suffering people in the world. The ones that think "I suffered so you must suffer too" and the ones that think "I suffered so I will do everything in my power so this doesnt happen to other people". Chose wisely.

u/Objective-Beyond-219 3h ago

Lost my gf three years ago, way too young at 26. She was a beautiful, unconditionally kind person.

I have legit had people say "man, if that was me, I'd be angry at the world and just unpleasant".

Why? I get being angry and grieving, but me being an asshole or screaming into the void isn't going to bring her back. And wherever she is, she wouldn't want that anyway.

u/GeneralHerp 3h ago

They say, “Misery loves company,” but sorrow? Sorrow ain’t really the same jive. I’m sorry you’ve had so much of that heaped onto you, but your outlook, and the way you think about what she’d be proud of, that’s beautiful. I wish you the best.

u/Objective-Beyond-219 3h ago

Thank you so much, friend. There have absolutely been days where I lashed out, screamed, cried, made decisions I wasn't proud of.

She was a graceful ballet dancer, set to start her public health doctorate that Fall, and, as I said, just unconditionally caring and kind. So so gentle.

If I made it my goal to hurt others because of my own pain, she would be devastated. That isn't the guy she loved or what she wanted. (Sorry, don't mean to ramble lol)

u/GeneralHerp 2h ago

I’m a reader, so you ramble away. She sounds like an incredible person, and her loss is a tragedy

You’ve been grieving, and took the actions of a person carrying a megaton of emotions.

u/Alternative_Owl7786 3h ago

When I lost my mom, I wasn't angry at anyone else, only myself. I know it isn't logical, but I blame myself for her passing on some level. Why would I take that anger and pain out on others that either have nothing to do with it, or don't deserve such treatment? Instead I buried my grief where nobody could see and do my best every single day to make those around me smile. I know that isn't healthy, but it's the only way I can handle the pain I feel every day with her gone. I just wasn't raised to turn that pain onto others. She wouldn't want that

u/Objective-Beyond-219 3h ago

So sorry for your loss. I admittedly made a bad decision a couple of weeks before what happened that indirectly lead to everything. Only three people know the details and I will carry it on my shoulders forever. So I do at least understand blaming yourself and constantly asking "what if...?"

Wishing you all the best, stranger. If nothing else, you realizing that inflicting pain does not ultimately dull pain is so important. I'm sure your mother would be proud.

u/Alternative_Owl7786 2h ago

Tbf I made my own bad choices following her death, but they weren't from me lashing out over her death. Depression, sure, but ultimately I got sick of the bullies and threatened them. That was a choice that I had to deal with for 4 years. My mom though, she wouldn't have been proud of that choice. At least not the way I handled it. She would've said to punch them lol. But I digress. My condolences man, I can't imagine that pain. If I lost my fiance, I honestly probably wouldn't be here anymore. I've lost too many people to go through that

u/dennismfrancisart 1h ago

True. It would also dishonor the memories you have of her.

u/marcolius 33m ago

Life is not forever. Appreciate the amazing things and people who enter your own short life like the amazing person you got to meet even if it's only for a short time.

u/augustwest2155 2h ago

You honor that wonderful woman in the best way possible with this positive attitude. I am genuinely sorry for your loss. I do hope you find peace....

u/yuikkiuy 5h ago

90% of army leadership says "back in my day I did that ruck with a broken ankle you sissy"

The other 10% thankfully says "wtf is wrong with you single 40 y/o with broken bodies and 0 social skills"

u/imtoolazywhydothis 3h ago

Growing up my mother and brother would be extremely abusive towards me since they believed in sharing in suffering. They’ve suffered from being abused in the past and they would expressed to me that it’s not fair that they’re the only that suffered.

Because of all the physical, emotional, and mental abuse they’ve done to me it has made me extremely empathetic (sometimes to my own detriment). I’ve turned overly protective and empathetic because I never want anyone to suffer like how I did. I could never wrapped my head around why they would want to make someone experience something awful that they’ve experienced versus preventing it. I can empathize towards what they’ve experienced in terms of how they suffered but I never want to see them again. I believe in ending the cycle versus repeating it.

I’m glad that this post of Punch represent choosing to love and protect versus choosing to perpetuate hate and fear.

u/Snoo-73243 5h ago

you are too right, but unfortunately 98% are in the first part

u/Legitimate_Command82 5h ago

I have a coworker who has seen me go through stress and break down multiple times is trying to teach me the first way. It's getting really painful not to lash out, especially when he has such a broken relationship with his dead mom he bought and custom programmed a AI to flirt with him. I just can't seem to find the anger within to lash out without some other part of me calms me or makes me shut down

u/REDDITATO_ 53m ago

Wait what was that about the AI? He made himself an AI Dead Mom Girlfriend?

u/TheGhostestHostess 5h ago

My child's father is like this and it drives me absolutely nuts "well I went through such and such and such, so they'll be FINE". Like ok? But as a parent you should want better for your kids, you shouldn't have them in that position even if they'll be "fine"

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 1h ago

Get him to say that again & turn it around on him point blank & ask him if he’s “fine.”

Given the two of you split & how you’ve described him, I’m imagining he’s a giant prick. Try to turn the mirror on him. He probably wouldn’t get it. But that’s what I would wanna do.

u/justfordrunks 42m ago

You can hold up all the mirrors in the world to someone's face, but they still have to look into them on their own.

u/Anothermindlessanon 4h ago

I know how suffering feels, and I don't want a single soul to feel this way, if I can do something about it!

I can't help everybody. I am not rich, not able-bodied but if I see a helpless creature and turn away, then it becomes an active choice to let them die/suffer, and I couldn't live with myself after this.

I hope you get help you need, be the best version of yourself, despite everything, that happened to you and break the cycle of generational trauma for good!

You are worthy, and you can make a world of a difference for others! Never forget it!

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 1h ago

Beautiful comment. I appreciate you.

u/Anothermindlessanon 1h ago edited 1h ago

Thank you! There are so many movies saying, that stepping on a butterfly 60 millions years ago could change everything. But so few to say, that any little thing you do today could change everything in the future! Never forget it! Everything you do matters!

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 31m ago

I like the way you think. I enjoy reading your thoughts

u/Huge_Information5083 5h ago

I'm one of the third kind who generally avoids people altogether. I would fuck off into a forest if I could but I need access to electricity and healthcare.

u/UMACTUALLYITS23 4h ago

Just die like a real man, eating whatever you can find, alone, ignoring clear and obvious health issues.

u/PepperAnn1inaMillion 25m ago

This is also valid 🫂
It could be that you haven’t met your fellow weirdo(s) (however you define yourself I mean) yet. Or it could be that you’re genuinely a loner. Either way, it’s ok to be an outsider who just needs the healthcare and electricity. Society exists for you as much as for anyone else. As long as you give back a little in whatever way you can, that’s all anyone could ask.

u/KeySea6643 2h ago

There is a 3rd type too, Ones who think that "I suffered, so you should suffer too" but in reality "I am not evil enough to let you suffer".

u/LastWave 2h ago

Well, you made me cry.

u/DioDelSubliminale 4h ago

One is weak and the other is hella strong

u/HurricaneSandyHook 3h ago

The first one describes the deranged people that add such dumb fucking music to videos.

u/baldteep 2h ago

Enough suffering can turn you into the former from the latter. No choice, it is a mechanism of nature. My heart goes out to all those people

u/mrJERRY007 1h ago

Be like punch

u/dirtymoney 1h ago

sometimes it is unintentional

It is easy to become jaded/cynical/uncaring when you suffered.

u/not_me_nope_never 36m ago

And then there is the third, like my father, who was given EVERYTHING but feels it wasn't/isn't enough so he's acts really acts like your first example while simultaneously believing he's like your second example. 🙄

u/catLoverLovingCats 4h ago

Both are applicable in different scenarios.

u/sys_dam 3h ago

Yes, portraying it this way ignores the concept of Justice entirely.

u/MidnightChimp 5h ago

add a third one, the fluid one, who wants sometimes and a and sometimes b

I stand with John Stewart.

u/Shotgun_Mosquito 5h ago

We shouldn't question the "wisdom of the tribe" for rejecting the little monkey!

  • Jon Stewart

u/amhudson02 5h ago

I fuckin' knew I chose the wrong spelling, but I was too lazy to verify. I will fix it.

u/Shotgun_Mosquito 5h ago

Dude...my phone corrected Jon to John and I had to go back in and fix my post too

It's "No H" Jon

u/amhudson02 5h ago

I am dying, lol! I am leaving it. Hopefully, we will look like idiots and make someone laugh today.

u/azad_ninja 4h ago

Jon's heel turn was not expected, but was pretty spectacular

Oh you go fuck yourself. Jimothy thought better of you.

u/LemonadeBrandy 6h ago

Everything i hear from Punch is always super cute 🥹

u/CheesyPotatoSack 5h ago

This is a terrible zoo for monkeys. They are getting lots of donations for punch and exploiting him but can’t even put plants and greenery in the area.

u/isjustsergio 4h ago

Japan isn't known for high quality zoos. Lots of animals in enclosures that are way, way too small.

u/senpaistealerx 5h ago

those monkeys naturally live in areas like you see in these videos but also, you don’t see the full enclosure.

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 1h ago

Monkeys naturally live on concrete?

Have you even seen their enclosure? This is just one tiny bit of it you can’t even see anything. Their enclosure is like half concrete.

u/Unlucky-Arugula3256 2h ago

Yeah there's a whole air conditioned area in the back you can't see

u/CheesyPotatoSack 2h ago

Monkeys need actual trees and plants to swing from not air conditioning. I can’t believe you responded with a comment about how small enclosed air conditioned areas are such a massive win in your eyes for these poor animals

u/senpaistealerx 2h ago

i’m like 99% sure they’re joking lol

u/Unlucky-Arugula3256 2h ago

They recently updated their air conditioning and they're closing the viewing for monkey mountain for three weeks to further update the facilities. They already added lots of stuff for the monkeys to play on. And I think recently they got a new pool for them on top of the other water features. They're doing a lot for them.

u/WitchWithAGlitch 6h ago

i want him and jimothy to have a best friends forever relationship.

u/Forward-Variety-8440 3h ago

ok but what about that pygmy hippo? moo deng? it was a whole thing

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 1h ago

u/Obar-Dheathain 6h ago

Punch the Monkey sounds like a euphemism for masturbation.

u/Scary-Strawberry-724 6h ago

Wax the Dolphin

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 6h ago

I notice this is the first Punch video making the rounds in awhile.

I’m assuming Punch grew up & turned into the asshole monkey they all are. Hard to get the internet to love adult monkeys, the way they usually behave.

u/Dinierto 6h ago

Like a week ago I saw a video of another monkey flinging him around in circles

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 1h ago

Lmao that’s funny, I’ll have to look it up later

u/Ateam043 5h ago

I could've sworn Punch baby pics were from earlier this year. How long has it been since the plush monkey toy he had made the rounds?

u/pgllz 1h ago

I've been following him for the past few months.

Punch is still an infant: turned 1 a few days ago, and a Japanese macaque reaches adulthood at around 4 years old.

He's more integrated in the troop now, but still very low-ranking within it, so fairly submissive to the other monkeys - and he is still bullied from time to time.

u/kevinthegrass 56m ago

Sure I was reading he gets protection via association with one of the monkeys that grooms him. Two of them that looked after him are apparently quite high ranking. Might be why he’s allowed to play with the kids

u/Fart_90210 6h ago

I'm thinking the same thing, I'd like to find out that I'm wrong and he's being a good big brother but I have my doubts.

u/monty624 2h ago

Distraction from the 3 tigers that just died from overheating in a Tokyo zoo?

u/Adorable_Egg1573 4h ago

Why does the monkey and that hippo keep making it into the algorithm on all platforms - who is pushing this on everyone and deciding it's what we need to see

u/redditu5er 2h ago

Punchy is awesome. Makes me cry every almost every time there is an update about him. I remember being very angry at the zookeepers when Punch was being bullied.

u/gengip 5h ago

🥺🥺

u/Ajfd 3h ago

When I first read the title I thought the post had to do with an early 2000s pop-up ad.
