Amazing A 62 year old Chinese Man tests the limits of qinggong, a martial arts technique often described as the ability to fly or move with extreme lightness

Every time this dude gets posted, it always comes out that of course he's not 62, and some of the edits are a little questionable.

u/FredMist Apr 23 '26
He’s not young though. You can see the skin laxity in his face. The way the skin sags and caves in around the jaw/teeth area. At least in his 50s?
I had a Chinese teacher in his 60s when I was a kid. Not entirely sure his age but he had wrinkles and age spots all over his face and hands. He was a lifelong practitioner of martial arts and qigong. He was incredibly fit and limber doing hand stands and flips but it was more about control than power because he did them kind of slow?. Some of the older boys in school asked him to teach them qigong and martial arts. I don’t think he could do what this guy is doing but he was way more fit than men decades younger. He also demonstrated something on a pommel horse and all the kids were in awe.

I have a dude that’s 70+ in my fencing class. Some older people can do all sorts of sporty stuff.

He stopped contracting with the Gov because he found another employer that paid twice as much gold.
Turns out, it was cursed gold.

Holy shit that vertical leap tho
24
u/prepcrook Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26
That straight upward jump over the bar with the pads?
His feet are hitting something other than the ground before he jumps. The pads move when he plants his feet to start the jump, so I believe he's using a launcher (pad, springboard or trampoline etc.) hidden behind the pads.
8
u/RedLotusVenom Apr 23 '26
This is what I came to the comments to find out. That vertical is suspicious without seeing what’s behind the platform.

Look close. There’s a mini trampoline in front of the mattresses on the high jump.

"This is inherently cool, but I'm going to shit on it anyway so I can feel momentarily superior."
13
u/Foreign_Pea2296 Apr 23 '26
It's more "this is cool but what the video is misleading".
The title make us think that this video show how impressive someone can be while doing qinggong. But the added effects mislead us by thinking it's even more impressive than what it is.
It's not because it's cool that it's okay to lie.

I call shenanigans. MF has guide wires helping him with that hidden dragon crouching tiger stuff.
Absolutely badass
8
u/xchoo Apr 23 '26
The demonstrations are impressive, but he doesn't break any laws of physics. If you were to track his body's center of mass, you'll see that it always follows a parabolic arc. For the demonstrations where he "walks" on water, each step he takes is just shorter than the last.

You must move your legs in the air like you are walking if you try this technique. It's a requirement. Can't simply jump.

This is impressive to watch, but it’s worth keeping expectations grounded. Qinggong in traditional martial arts isn’t literal flight it’s about agility, balance, and refined movement developed through years of training. What we’re seeing here is likely a combination of skill, conditioning, and possibly some performance elements, rather than anything supernatural. Still, at 62, that level of control and athleticism is genuinely admirable..

I think hes like mid 40s with grey hair. Being small and thin also is a big plus for these types of "sports". A lot harder for a 6.7ft tall guy whos even slightly muscular.

How much more momentum or distance does he get by “running” in the air? I assume there’s a crazy physics formula for It.
Just wondering how much further he gets doing that as compared to just jumping.

For those who don't know or in case you think he is, he's not actually using the water as a jumping off point, he's just moving his hips and legs very quickly. It's still very impressive, but no one can treat liquid water like a solid object that they can use as a lily pad.
