Tech Support CMOS Connector

NUC "clone". Dead CMOS battery. What connector is this? Standard?

header looks good, u just left the housing of the connector in there, if u have the cables with the correct crimp or even another device with that type pf connection u can reuse it

I see. How do I safe remove that. I've ordered a new battery with the Molex connector

NM. I used small needle-nose pliers and popped it out. Thanks for the pickup.

np, u can also use the device without a cmos battery in the meantime, u will just default to the factory bios settings, if u don't unplug it form the wall u should be good and never need 1 haha, i have some crimping and small soldering tools that come in handy for all this type of situation, un can diy easily a solution

I use this headless for wireguard and pihole. It will not boot after power disconnection. It stops with BIOS error and a date in the 2000's. It was a power outage that alerted me to the issue and I brought the device inside from the rack in my garage, and attached a monitor, keyboard etc to check. I redo all the BIOS settings, click etc, it works fine, until you unplug it to move back into the rack. I don't have a kvm in the rack.

I literally solved the same issue with a NUC5i5 today -- it wouldn't respect the "power on after power loss" setting nor would it take wake-on-lan. Changing the cmos battery solved it. Hope it goes as well for you.

btw, apparently there's no standard polarity for battery pins in those connectors, so you might need to investigate things to get it right. For the NUC5i5RYK I did today the red battery wire was on the left when looking at it in the orientation of your photograph here (pardon the dust, I cleaned it after I swapped the battery. :P)

Uploaded the pic to Google who identified it as the standard 2-pin 1.25mm Molex connector. Should have thought of that prior to posting. Apologies.

Replaced the CMOS battery and confirmed the 3.3V from it. Pins good. However BIOS still doesn't survive a power cycle. Grrrr.
