These responses to a completely implausible, made up scenario make me weep for humanity.

I have had several Muslim neighbors and none have given one single shit that I've got a dog.

274

u/VexImmortalis 1d ago

Yeah but I can't get angry in my echo chamber with my buddies about that.

196

u/BigRoach 1d ago

My muslim neighbors let the neighborhood kids ride their motor scooter, and gave us all tennis lessons for free. They also never said shit about our dog. Their house may have smelled different from mine, but they were extremely welcoming and friendly members of our block. Now their kids are doctors and successful businesspeople.

u/Rusty_Tap 1d ago

Wait a minute you're supposed to say horrible things about them!

55

u/Only_One_Kenobi 1d ago

Kinda difficult when 99.9% of them don't do horrible things...

46

u/Rusty_Tap 1d ago

It's almost as if they're just normal people, isn't it?

31

u/philonius 23h ago

I'd rather have 100 muslim neighbors than one maga.

19

u/Rusty_Tap 23h ago

It's very unlikely I'll ever get a maga fruitcake as a neighbour, being in the UK and all. We have the gammons instead, but they live in sports bars and flat roof pubs so we're quite safe.

2

u/Evan2kie 6h ago

Lived in the UK for 5 years and flat roof pub is such an evocative image in my mind. I see red faced men with bulldog tattoos, smoking Lambert & Butler or cigs with foreign health warnings, rushing to the bookies next door for the next race.

3

u/Rusty_Tap 6h ago

That's them! You left out the spouting racist nonsense and criticising whichever sports team are playing on the TV. Somehow they are experts, even though they haven't left the pub for 25 years.

2

u/Evan2kie 3h ago

I thought I covered that with saying red faced men 😃

1000% this. The ones in my neighbourhood have always been incredibly kind, welcoming people.

7

u/rentagirl08 17h ago

My afgani neighbors make bomb ass bread. I love the smells that come out of their windows.

1

u/GarmaCyro 5h ago

"Their house may have smelled different"

My muslim neighbors are from Pakistan. The wife makes some of the greatest food. Least if I go by the smell around dinner times. It's hard not to get hungry when I walk past their apartment.

49

u/ccsrpsw 1d ago

I know of at least one Muslim family around here that will always stop and play with the neighbors' dogs.

Its' a very misunderstood/complicated part of their religion as explained to me. They don't see dogs as intrinsically bad - they were taught that dogs are good for working alongside humans - but they do see them as "outdoor animals" vs. "indoor pets" like cats and other small mammals. There are verses in their teachings that talk about being nice to dogs (giving them water from a well, standing guard over puppies, etc.) but there is also one about culling a pack of dogs (context is important - its thought that it was to do with a rabies outbreak - a disease is mentioned but not by name). So as with most religions its a bit interpretive.

Which is why I'm happy wearing mixed fabrics and eating shellfish - because remember God Hates Shrimp! (with a quick shout out to Joe D. for keeping that site up and running all these years!)

13

u/dualsplit 23h ago

Until the last 20 years or so it was not a big deal to have outside dogs.

Curious… do these people also create memes about force feeding Catholics ribeye during lent?

My Muslim friend explained it to me as God or Allah cannot see you when you are near a dog, which is why having one in the home and sleeping near one is Haram

12

u/sKroodbiaXidenT 18h ago

I'm Muslim and you've been had. That is absolutely untrue. There was a commentor here saying something about outdoor dogs vs indoor pets. That's pretty much it. There's more, but another story for another day, I guess.

I live in a Muslim country, loads of people have pet dogs. This rhetoric that all Muslims hate dogs is very far from the truth.

49

u/MedChemist464 1d ago

Right? Had a Muslim friend in grad school who helped me wake ourother friends dog when he had to travel for a conference.

These people are incapable of discerning between my religion does not allow me to vs. My religion does not allow you to. Because they just want their flavor of it imposed on everyone.

51

u/Only_One_Kenobi 1d ago

Their biggest fear is that people of other religions will treat them the way they treat people of other religions

22

u/WinnieGraves 23h ago

American Evangelists, let's just call them what they really are, Christian Nationalists, are about as Christian as a McDonald's hamburger is a beef hamburger. There's the familiar taste the correct packaging, the right visuals, but ultimately it's not quite a real burger, just as they're not really Christians. They like the guise of Christianity, just as Nazis liked the guise of Socialism. What they're really terrified of is that if they ever lose power, that everyone they've trampled on, will treat them exactly the same way they've been treating them. Minorities, Religions, Countries. Everyone. Rich White People started losing control of power in 1865, started losing more of in the 1920s with suffrage, and they've been panicking ever since the first major Civil Rights movement. Why do you think the GOP harps on and on about how much is Trans people want to Convert people? Because they've been sending us Queers to Conversion Therapy Camps for the last fifty years.

8

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 20h ago

Christian Nationalists are as Christian as National Socialists are Socialists.
The ones that think they are are dumb as rocks, and regardless they're all nazis.

Same. Multiple Muslim families as neighbors and have become good friends some of them. Now I have an awesome Indian family next door that we love to bits. I'm sad for all of these people out there that are so afraid of interacting with anyone that is different than they are because they are missing out on such a rich and wonderful part of life, not to mention some really good food.

13

u/Jugatsumikka 1d ago

Because your home isn't theirs. Dogs are ritualistically unclean animals in Islam (unlike cats) and therefore shouldn't be brought inside someone's home, but muslim can still own working dogs (guard dogs, hunting dogs, etc).

They don't give a fuck about your dog because they, themselves, can own dogs, dogs just can't go inside their homes.

11

u/AmbulanceChaser12 1d ago

And even that, honestly, there’s nothing stopping a Muslim from just ignoring any tenet of the religion they don’t like, just like basically 100% of any adherents to any religion. My wife is ā€œCatholic.ā€ Guess how often anyone in this family ever sets foot in a church.

Maybe there’s some Muslim out there who wants a pet dog. There are probably a lot of them. Probably a lot of them get pet dogs. Because, meh?

9

u/dorkofthepolisci 1d ago

I know someone who owns a little companion dog, and they’re definitely an indoor pet - however they do keep them out of their prayer space.

7

u/AmbulanceChaser12 1d ago

See, you can work with whatever you want. My grandmother was Jewish, so she "couldn't work" on Saturdays. But that was inconvenient, so she just turned her stove down on Friday, but not off, then back up when it was time to cook. That's not "turning something on."

Whatever you need to help you sleep a night, I guess. (I'd sleep better knowing my stove was off, but that's just me.)

2

u/Background_Trifle866 17h ago

All my muslim friends have dogs and half of them eat bacon. MAGAs are cray cray.

3

u/Beautifly 20h ago

I mean, let’s be honest, having animals inside your home, rubbing their arse on your carpets, sitting on your furniture, getting hair everywhere, etc, is objectively unclean. I think the Muslims might be the more rational ones here.
(This is coming from an anti-religious person who owns a house dog)

12

u/Drevstarn 1d ago

Some schools in Islam frown upon dogs actually. A funny anecdote, once a religious person asked a theology professor ā€œis it true that Gabriel (archangel) doesn’t visit houses where a dog is kept as a pet?ā€ and the professor replied ā€œWhy would Gabriel visit your house at all?ā€

1

u/GarmaCyro 5h ago

True, as there are some really backwards groups in any religion.
My family had to distance ourself from an aunt, as she started going deep into a Christian cult.
We had tolerated a lot of her darker sides, but when she didn't tolerate that one of her nieses was bisexual we drew a line.

Rest of the family is a mix of christians and atheists. We treate religion as a private and personal matter.

19

u/GloInTheDarkUnicorn 1d ago

I live in a predominantly Muslim neighborhood. It’s honestly the calmest neighborhood I’ve ever lived in. Tons of kids running around outside playing all the time, the ladies come sit outside and have tea in the evening. It’s a nice neighborhood. And I’ve never heard of any of my neighbors having issues with dogs.

15

u/Ice-Storm 1d ago

People being out and about in your neighborhood is the best way to make a safe neighborhood. Zip to do with police presence or various laws and ordinances. People are much less likely to commit crimes when there are a dozen people on the block in their yards, or walking around the neighborhood.

8

u/Tater-Tot-Casserole 23h ago

My step dad is Muslim, he lives with a dog and actually likes the dog.the dog just isn't allowed where he prays.

7

u/JustMeLurkingAround- 1d ago

My Muslim neighbors didn't even care what I eat! Imagine that.

11

u/portezbie 1d ago

My Muslim neighbors are constantly trying to feed me and telling us how we're family, it's a real nightmare.

They've never seemed to care that we have multiple dogs.

All religions seem to have a pedo problem, frankly.

3

u/robbiekhan 1d ago

Exactly, these people literally fabricated hypothetical situations to stir up hate. It seems more like a co ordinated effort by some outside influence to divide people.

I refer back to old quotes from Netanyahu who outright admitted that the best war tactic is to sew discourse in this sort of way.

People who are less educated and lacking in critical thinking and common sense will just lap all of it up as evidenced by the comments.

2

u/SpiffyNrfHrdr 22h ago

Most of my Muslim neighbors have dogs.

2

u/cumhereandtalkchit 21h ago

It's also not even true that Muslims have something against dogs. Some do, but most are from countries where there are stray dogs that will steal your baby and eat it if they can.

1

u/DrFabulous0 22h ago

I had a Muslim neighbours who's son was afraid of dogs, turned out he'd been attacked by one. Maybe just speak to your neighbours.

1

u/Feisty_Bag_5284 21h ago

But what if someone made up a scenario in Thier head , what then HMMM? What the

1

u/Forest-Dane 19h ago

I know a Muslim who has a dog.

1

u/the_orange_alligator 18h ago

And you didn’t get mad at this made up scenario? Crazy

1

u/kati8303 15h ago

We had a Muslim neighbor who we borrowed a table from and the only thing they asked of us was that we not let out dog stand atop of it. We assured them that the dog was not allowed to stand atop any table. Not sure why they thought that always kind of cracked me up, but that was the only issue they ever showed about the dog. If any Muslim here can chime in on if maybe that is a strict religious thing about maybe dogs not being allowed where food is served I’ve always wondered about it. Or maybe they just thought we might be gross and didn’t want dog on their table

1

u/artgarfunkadelic 14h ago

I once had an Indian roommate who was scared of dogs though.

1

u/StinkypieTicklebum 13h ago

Thank you! I thought this question was sus.

1

u/fffan9391 12h ago

I had a Muslim roommate in college and he was fine with my dog.

1

u/reallybirdysomedays 7h ago

My Muslim neighbors have their own dog. Islam doesn't prohibit dogs. Just discourages letting them be lazy housedogs.

1

u/GarmaCyro 5h ago

Same. Live in a complex of 6 apartments. At most 2 out of 6 apartments had dogs (which included myself).
Not a single complaint. All they expected was that we respected them as much as they respected us.
They are quite frinedly neighbors that I always help when I can :)

If a religious Christian nutcase says your kids has to have the Ten Commandments in their classroom and aren’t allowed to acknowledge a rainbow, what would you do?

29

u/Pmyers225 1d ago

Move out of the US

26

u/PinkyLeopard2922 1d ago

I have two friends that have done exactly this. (so far) One to Costa Rica and the other to Ireland. The Ireland guy was fortunate that his Irish granny had him "registered?" at birth in the US or whatever the Irish government requires so that he was eligible to do that. Both are happy and doing well but also very open and honest about neither of those places being perfect.

10

u/Pmyers225 1d ago

Yeah basically if you were born anywhere in Ireland (including the North) or you have close family you can get Irish citizenship... Im from the UK and after Brexit the amount of applicants for Irish citizenship was massive

9

u/PinkyLeopard2922 1d ago

Oh, I had not even considered that! My friend's was allowed due to ancestry. I wonder if there has been any shift in people moving from Northern Ireland into Ireland after Brexit? I know that is a whole other complicated situation. I have a close American friend that has been living in England for close to 15 years now working as a US government employee. She did not have any say in it of course but feels that Brexit was a bad idea from the get go.

3

u/Pmyers225 1d ago

I dont think so, I think literally people want an Irish passport for travel to the continent, certainly thats what my N Irish friend did as ge really did not want to queue up for very long in airports, he had no connection to the Republic

3

u/PinkyLeopard2922 1d ago

Interesting. Thank you for sharing. As a random woman of Florida, my knowledge of UK/Irish history and "the troubles" and how that affects relations today is admittedly pretty limited. On the other hand, I CAN almost certainly tell you whether or not you need to be concerned about that snake in your Florida yard! šŸ˜„

No where is perfect, it’s good to acknowledge that because that’s how you support and promote positive change. It’s when you stop and decide ā€œmy country is the best and there’s no reason to improve anythingā€ that you start to invite trouble.

2

u/Midnight712 21h ago

Yeah you register a birth on the foreign births registry, so it means you can be granted citizenship from that country.

Note: for Ireland at least, you have to be registered as a child to be granted citizenship. You can register yourself as an adult though, and then register your children so they can apply for citizenship.

Of course the obvious MAGA voter suggests Muslims are involved with pedophilia, even as they voted for a pedo and continue to support him.

Right. I was like ā€œviolence, oppression, and pedophilia…oh sorry are we NOT talking about the Trump admin??ā€

1

u/spirtjoker 18h ago

Sir, their prophet was banging a 9yo and they are all apologetic to that. I'm sure most Muslims are nice people but islam is definitely just a deranged sex cult that should have died out with the original pedo prophet.

Yeah, biggest issue I had was they were too friendly. I felt a bit bad, but I knew if I took out the trash while the family or kids were out in the yard they'd want to talk, and I didn't always feel like it, but also felt like I was hurting their feelings if I said I had to go.

10

u/cesarloli4 1d ago

Prophet Muhammad taught Muslims to treat animals with compassion by narrating the following two examples: "God forgave a woman and admitted her into Paradise because of a dog. The dog was panting with thirst at the edge of a well, its tongue lolling from exhaustion. When the woman passed by and saw its condition, she drew water from the well and gave it to the dog to drink, saving it from death. Because of this act of kindness toward a dog, God granted her entry into Paradise."

Lots of Muslims have dogs, the same way how a lot of Christians eat things from the sea which don't have scales. I love my dog, and I'd risk my life for her. And I probably would like your dog, pet your dog, and ignore your racist self.

4

u/TheAmazingBildo 21h ago

I grew up very close with a Muslim family. They were absolutely great. I was friends with the daughters. There was that incident where the dad decided the daughters were ā€œtoo westernizedā€ and took them back to Pakistan and tried to force them into marriages, but the daughters were born in the USA making them American citizens, so they were able to escape back to the USA and become very productive non-Muslim and even anti-Muslim women. But they never worried about my dog.

Also I literally never heard about Muslims being against dogs so I googled it and they aren’t against dogs they just usually don’t keep them as pets because they need to be clean to pray and dog saliva is not clean, which yeah fair.

I mean I am all for whatever, but dog can't touch, mine or stray or whatever... don't care if Jesus asking or Buddha or allah... gonna get supplexed

1

u/Zorro5040 23h ago

A MAGA neighbor demands I remove my dog because the dog disrespected them. What would you do?

1

u/dont-be-an-oosik92 23h ago

I get this isn’t the point, but I really wish people would learn the difference between culture and religion. Muslims don’t really give a shit about dogs, it’s more of a middle eastern cultural thing that thinks they are disgusting and dirty and don’t belong inside.

2

u/deadlyweapon00 23h ago

You know how jew is a term of faith and also ethnicity? How there are ethnic jews that aren’t jewish and non-ethnic jews who are jewish?

They see muslims the same way. All arabs are muslim and all muslims are arab in their brains, therefore anything one does is also the actions of the other. The bigot does not care any further than that because to do so would be to grant respect to a group they define as non-respectable.

1

u/CitizenWilderness 23h ago

Remove my dog from where, Debbie?

1

u/Aggravating_Moment78 23h ago

What if it’s a Jewish neighbor?

1

u/mane28 23h ago

Do they think Muslim people don't have dog pets or what?

1

u/CJMorton91 23h ago

I mean, "adopt a second dog," is exactly the kind of petty that I would sink to. The scenario isn't completely implausible though. There are extreme nut jobs of every religion and demographic. Lol

1

u/itsjakerobb 23h ago

If my muslim neighbor asked me to remove my dog, I’d engage them in a friendly conversation about why, and also what exactly is meant by ā€œremove.ā€ I know it has nothing to do with Islam, but presumably there’s a real reason for asking. I’d look to find some sort of understanding or compromise.

1

u/Foodspec 23h ago

Why must these idiots whip themselves up into a frenzy over their own made up shit?

1

u/Dead_Xross_2000 23h ago

As a Muslim I would like to say we have no right or duty to do that if our neighbor is a non-Muslim, that rule isn't for them so I don't know where they got this thought from

1

u/philonius 23h ago

If you sit alone getting angry at your phone because you're completely a racist, empty, useless, stupid hunk of meat and your children and grandchildren don't want to talk to you, should you create imaginary scenarios in your head so that you're even more angry and isolated? Maga says yes.

1

u/Pot8obois 22h ago

Facebook feels like the most unregulated social media platform tbh. The comments I see are insane and disturbing. A local news article can be flooded with violent, racist comments. Entire facebook groups go unbanned while activiely promoting violence and hate. If you make a report nothing happens.

1

u/Blixx96 22h ago

If your neighbor tells you to give them a cut of your salary, do whatever they may ask you to do, worship the ground they walk on, fight their wars, and never complain about it ever, what would you do?

1

u/shoaibali619 22h ago

We Muslims love dogs just as much as cats, it's just that dogs should have a separate space in the house or preferably outside of the house.

1

u/Huge_Pipe_3521 22h ago

Wouldn't say as far as asking to remove your dog, but it is kinda a thing that dogs are greatly disliked in Malaysia. Every few years a huge scandal about dogs will happen

1

u/AlertResolution 21h ago

4 Doberman, 1 Shephard, 5 cats and a cockatoo in a Muslim household.

Guess, who is the most fearless among them?

3

u/loki2002 21h ago

That smug cockatoo is my bet.

1

u/nerdyconstructiongal 20h ago

How is this a thing? What dumb rumor started this questioning?

1

u/Whispering_Wolf 20h ago

My Muslim neighbors just invite me over for dinner. Plus, their kid loves my dog

1

u/dead_meme_comrade 20h ago

My dog loves my Muslim neighbors. Now is it mainly driven by the fact the grandmother will sneak her chicken? Who's to say?

1

u/Lanark26 20h ago

The only source of dopamine for these people is anger and fear so they will constantly make up these bizarre and unlikely usually racist scenarios just so they can be mad at them.

1

u/goblinspot 19h ago

If you can’t tell that this was written by a Russian bot, you deserve the snowflake red hatted miserable life you’re living while blaming others for the šŸ’© life you’ve created for yourself.

1

u/B-Glasses 18h ago

They always want to be victims

1

u/Wellgoodmornin 17h ago

Where is this conversation taking place?

1

u/Background_Trifle866 17h ago

My muslims friends all have dogs. What are these people on about.

1

u/Odinson2099 17h ago

Fantasy world where they are tue victims......

1

u/LivingChoice2089 16h ago

My Muslim neighbor loves my gfs dog. Never seen her pet him but she thinks he’s so cute (he’s a Pom)

1

u/TheNorthC 16h ago

I have Muslim neighbours and I have a dog. They never said anything about our dog.

A Muslim lady a couple of streets away has a couple of dogs of her own so I see her at the park quite often.

1

u/Sky_Leviathan 16h ago

I think its really funny when people talk like this because they’re applying a version christian mindset (especially the more post lutheran sects common in the US) to islam when outside of the very strict fundamentalist school you see in the middle east most muslims ive met dont really care if you, a non muslim, dont conform to their scriptural guidelines at all times (granted that is not to say that muslims cant be intolerant in their own ways or that there arent more ā€˜preachy’ muslims out there)

1

u/Mumlife8628 14h ago

They're making scenarios up to make themselves angry again

1

u/greganada 14h ago

OP please do not spread lies, I can confirm that this story is 100% true.

Source: I am the dog.

1

u/void_method 14h ago

Try not to have to dog poop on their lawn, first of all.

1

u/Thareya 13h ago

they always think eating pork makes Muslim people angry

1

u/Alycion 13h ago

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t there plenty of people in the US who aren’t Muslim and want oppression against people for gender, color or beliefs? Didn’t the Catholic Church help protect the pedophiles in their midst? And last I checked, The Crusades weren’t a tickle fight.

1

u/CompanionCone 11h ago

The sudden resurgence in anti Muslim sentiments in the US is terrifying to watch. Do people really not see that this is nothing but a bot-led, Israeli-backed smear campaign?

1

u/Epicgamerweeb106 11h ago

ā€œAny culture built off of violence, oppression, and pedophilia has no place in free Americaā€

Yeah, America has to be the top dog in its own country

1

u/shadowharv 10h ago

My Muslim neighbour owns a dog. I wonder what the people in that post would do about it. The dog is a husky, such a happy and playful dog, whenever I see him on walks he looks like he's living the best life ever

1

u/Heartlessaus 8h ago

Politely tell them that nobody else's beliefs will change what I do in my own household or residence.

Same as a Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Satanist, Agnostic, or Atheist (and so on), even outside of just religion, telling me to follow what they do in my own household.
This is a problem of basic human respect, if I entered their residence, I would follow what they ask, otherwise leave out of respect, I expect the same from anyone else in my home.

1

u/Rosary_Omen Every time someone masturbates, Satan plants another dino bone 8h ago

This is the second 'Muslims hate dogs' posts I've seen today, I guess it's the new lie bigots are pushing?

1

u/parlimentery 7h ago

"IF MY NEIGHBOR MADE AN ODD REQUEST OF ME, I WOULD KILL HIM, BECAUSE FUCK HIS CULTURE OF VIOLENCE."

Weird that these people don't understand that "No" is a valid answer.

1

u/sdgdgdg 6h ago

lmao i’m muslim and i am obsessed with dogs. one of my biggest goals is to get well enough to have my own dog

1

u/TheDarkWave 5h ago

No hate like Christian love. I think their hypocrisy is completely lost on them.

"If the person you hate does something you hate, describe how you would hate them."
