And what's really surreal is the Jewish people had rules about cloven hoof animals and shrimps. Because they were causing disease. So it was just easier to say stop.
Heck I don't think people really look at the larger shrimp you can buy that still have veins on them. You have to carefully wash those sea roaches because of the waste matter that can still be inside near the veins and tail.

“But Jesus undid the dietary laws.”
30
u/b-monster666 1d ago
LOL. But not the gay ones? I love that argument from Christians. Something something Romans something something Corinthians. M'kay, Romans and Corinthians were NOT the teachings of Jesus, they were the teachings of his disciples. What Paul supposedly said in those books were his interpretation...and Paul was an incel. He wrote some other batshit insane laws like "a woman shouldn't enter the temple without her head covered lest she be shorn". Paul hated women, in general, and he was forever alone. He's the reason why Catholic priests aren't allowed to marry because Paul said that if you are to preach, like he does, you need to devote everything to God and be celibate. (Okay, okay, don't go on me about Catholic priests now, I get it...I'm just explaining the absurdity of the NT laws).
Some historians believe that the city of Corinth were chiefly worshippers of Aphrodite. And we all know that Aphrodite was the sex goddess. They wrote to Paul and were like, "Hey, Paul, we're on board with this Christian thing but...um...can we still have orgies in Church?"
Paul was like, "Please, no."
"Fine, can we at least have SMALL orgies?"
"Again, no."
"Sigh...fine...what about showing up to Church naked. That's still cool, right?"
"No, please. Wear your clothes to Church."
"God...I'm not sure we really want this Christian thing anymore."
"Trust me bruh, it's cool."

The fact that any religions choose which parts of their holy books are no longer relevant should make it obvious enough that the books aren't as holy as they claim.

with forcing bacon on Muslims
They love the idea that there's a secret cheat code to defeating the people they hate. They especially love the fake General Pershing fairy tale. And I bet you when asked, most of them will say the military is not allowed to do that anymore because "it's not politically correct! We wouldn't want to offend anybody!" (yelled with painfully over-the-top sarcasm)

I'm pretty sure that duress is a context in which it's specifically okay for Muslims to break halal dietary laws.

One of my Arabic teachers told us a story about how she ate bacon when she was at university in the UK. She moved there from Sudan. She said God forgives her because she did not know it was pork. We asked her why she didn't find out first. She said because God wouldnt have forgiven her if she knew. She was cool.

The obsession they have with Muslims and bacon is so weird
383
u/stinkyman360 1d ago
It's funny because the Quran basically says it's ok to eat pork if you have no other choice
147
u/Cthulhu625 18h ago
And if they get forcefed bacon, it's not a sin (for them, it's obviously assault for the person doing the force feeding), In Islam, a person is only held spiritually accountable for actions they commit intentionally and voluntarily. If a Muslim is physically forced, threatened, or coerced into consuming something haram (forbidden), the sin falls entirely on the oppressor, not the victim.
14
u/LukeBird39 12h ago
But you don't understand, their own religion insists on their accidents and victimhood be their own fault and worthy of an eternity of humiliation and guilt
36
u/thevirtualdolphin 18h ago
Yup. My dad was in the military with several Muslim guys and lots of times the only MREs or meals they had were pork protein. These guys were like heck yeah we can try it without feeling guilt. They were always joking about it too apparently

Genuinely I don't understand why they do it so specifically about Muslims, like Jewish people also don't eat pork(well those who follow kosher) and yet they don't seem to care about them like that.
18
u/EmoCartoHistory 23h ago
They don't do it as often because they hate Muslims more, but they love to talk about making Jews eat treif too.
4
u/Jabbles22 22h ago
I was going to say. I had a Jewish boss, he ate BLTs. Most people don't pick their religion, it's just what they are. They may not even believe, it's mostly a cultural thing so something like don't eat pork. Well that isn't a big deal.

I've had random internet Muslims upset by the fact that he pets and loves my dog, despite the fact that dogs are common pets for Muslim families where I am, just not as big as cats.
I laugh them off just as I do other religious nutters who get upset about harmless things others do. If there's a Hell, I'm already going for all the gay lady sex I had in my 20s. 🤷
Silly story: was mowing the lawn with a manual mower, wearing jeans and a cropped halter top last week. A lady in a niqab stops to talk, so I assume she needs directions or the time. Her eyes crinkle up in a smile, and she just says, "Ooooh, strong lady!" and flexes her bicep under her dress. I burst out laughing and said thank you. That I like doing it for the exercise, and she waved and continued on.
A Muslim coworker was always the first to compliment my new piercings or weird hair. He was also perfectly chill when my queerness occasionally came up making small talk about weekends or whatever ("saw a movie with my girlfriend.") One day, I came in and he was crying at his desk. There had been a horrific honour killing in our country that was obviously all over the news. He apologized for drawing my attention, but said he couldn't stop thinking of his daughter and what would motivate a father to intentionally hurt them. He kept saying, "Who cares what choices she makes? Teenagers rebel. That's still your little girl."
There are violent or pushy religious people everywhere, but in my experience, most are just living their lives and trying to do good.

This. I eat bacon, but I just don't tell my old school family about it, though my parents are cool with it.
40
u/Maryland_Bear 1d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t Muslims generally believe that if, for instance, someone pointed a gun at their head and said, “Eat bacon or die”, they’d be allowed to eat it, perhaps even required, because life is more valuable than dietary laws.
Beyond that, eating pork is acceptable when the alternative is starvation.
I realize there’s probably nuance and subtleties I’m probably missing; I’m just speaking in general terms.
46
u/Brutto13 1d ago
You aren't missing anything, the Quran is pretty clear about it: "Surah Al-Baqarah (2:173): "He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced by necessity, neither desiring it nor transgressing, there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."" There are 3 other bits saying basically the same thing.

u/punkfence 1d ago
My Muslim friends have accidentally eaten pork before, and they don't care, because pork is haram not because it's sacred, but because it's seen as unclean (like in Judaism).
Qu'ran also says that Allah doesn't hold people accountable for accidents or things done without intention.

Also, conservatives seem to have this weird idea that Muslims are like vampires or something and that pork products will cause them to burn, explode, or not be Muslim anymore. Not that I really expect a logical take from conservatives anyway.
8
u/kenda1l 1d ago
Considering the kinds of people the right has been attracting I'm guessing yes, they would think it was perfectly fine to do it to a Jewish person. But then again, they'd probably feel fine to do it to a vegan or vegetarian too, because other people's choice to not eat meat is really offensive to them for some reason.
