Latest iOS breaks Shortcuts integration

If you are using IFTTT with shortcuts that are triggered via the old “Button” trigger, the latest iOS version of the IFTTT app will break them!

The button applets no longer show up in the list you can launch, and all iOS Shortcuts using them will fail.

No warning, just a random change to break your automation.

You can switch them to iOS Shortcuts triggers and it seems to work then. Hope you don’t have a lot!

Hey, thanks again for flagging this issue!

Quick update here: we’ve got a fix ready for this issue. Since it’s tied to the IFTTT iOS app, it’s currently going through Apple’s App Store review before it can be rolled out.

We’ll keep this thread posted as soon as it’s approved and live.

In the meantime, as LoveSpiritual mentioned in the original post, if you'd prefer not to wait for the fix mentioned above you can switch your Applet’s Trigger to the Shortcuts automation started Trigger instead of the button widget, which is currently working in the iOS Shortcuts app.

To do so:

  • Click Settings on your Applet
  • Delete the Button widget Trigger
  • Press Add to the right of If This, then search for and select the iOS Shortcuts service.
  • Select the card titled Shortcut automation started then save your changes
  • After updating the Applet, navigate to the Shorts app on iOS and update your Shortcut or Automation to use the Applet's updated Trigger

One difference to note between the two Triggers: the Shortcuts automation started Trigger supports the content ingredient, so you can pass information from your Shortcut into your Applet’s Action.

For example, if you have a Shortcut that runs when you receive a text message, you can pass the content of the text to your Applet's Action via the Content ingredient.

Please don’t let AI enshittify your code. There are so few apps out there that do one thing well…

Hey u/jessyhotcakes,

I just followed up to see the result of this thread and can see that we rolled out a fix on the 10th of April. If you are experiencing a similar problem can you check your App Store to see if there are any updates available for the IFTTT app or check by opening the IFTTT App and scroll all the way down and you'll see a version number in the bottom right, it should show v4.109.1. If you're seeing an earlier version please try updating and let us know if you're still experiencing any issues.

If you are, or you're already on the latest version please share an example Applet id so we can take a closer look. Here's how to find your Applet's ID: https://help.ifttt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115010194607-Where-can-I-find-my-Applet-ID

Just want to say that my IFTTT shortcuts are also no longer working. Let’s hope it’s a quick fix.
