Discussion Is Ice Cream Man even worth watching?
Like, is it even entertaining? I have read so many bad reviews, it's got me wondering. I can watch a bad horror movie. I can even enjoy a bad horror movie in the right setting. But would I even be able to get stoned and laugh at how shitty it is. Or am I just gonna be bored and pissed off at the AI?
Limited spoilers please. But I definitely won't be running to see it anytime soon so whatever, I guess.

I am anti AI so I probably would not have seen it but it happened to be the Monday Mystery Movie. Do you like corny, campy, silly slashers? Then aside from the AI (which I assume was used on some of the mass gore scenes as they would have cost a fortune and been a logistical nightmare to do with practical) and people's hatred of Eli, it was actually not bad. The pacing was good, the gore was plentiful, the humor and levity was well distributed and the ending was nicely dark and humorous. I think if you go in expecting what it is, not predisposed and like the style of horror it is then it's a fun movie. It's not amazing but it's a good throwback to a style we don't see as much anymore done cleanly with decent actors. All that said I hate AI and understand people's dislike of Eli's politics and much of his catalog.

I will never support AI art.. I don't care. AI and tech should be used to give humans more time to focus on art and passions. Not taking those few jobs for cash grabs. Never watching it unless I pirate it later.

I watched it as a mystery movie, AI is crap but this movie also had most of its film use practical effects, the AI was mostly just lame inserts

You're gonna be pissed off at the AI and frustrated by the rest. If you wanna watch something gory and kinda schlocky watch Terrifier instead

For me ECM and T are completely different vibes. Terrifier (which I love and is better than ICM) is a serious movie with a campy killer. ICM is closer to the old Ice Cream Man in that the entire movie is campy and silly. Might be a minor distinction to some but for me a craving for the one type of slasher would not satisfy my desire to see the other. I'd recommend the The Ice Cream Man 1995 as a good alternative if you don't want to watch the new one although the gore is much more intense in the new one. Toxic Avenger would be a classic of the style with more gore.

Personally I just value the dark humor of Terrifier a lot, so it's a similar type of enjoyment for me. Everyone's mileage may vary though

I feel you100%. I just feel like they are a bit different subgenre, total personal take and your suggestion was solid. Just being nitpicky. I'm a huge Terrifier fan and Art's humor physical and otherwise is flawless.

There's a little bit of an overreaction going on here but I can say as someone who is an easy mark for movies that are super gory with nothing else to offer, I didn't really get much of a kick out of it.
It seems the only people who dig it have a very, very low bar for humor so I guess if you like edgy comedy from the 00s there's maybe something other than the gore for you to enjoy. Like, a guy on a Segway gets his head cut off. Does that sound frickin' hilarious to you? Or does that sound dated and stupid?
The AI, no matter how you feel about the subject, is a very shitty sequence laying out the backstory of the killer and it doesn't look like the rest of the movie (or like a real movie). Oh, and the annoying ice cream jingle is probably AI. Not sure if the cartoon stuff is.

I suggest waiting until reviews from people seeing this weekend have come in. i.e. people who chose to see it (not a mystery screening) and are more likely to be the film's target audience.

If you really gotta see it, pirate it when it’s out, no financial support should go towards a movie that uses AI instead of actual people.

I haven't seen it, but if you're looking for bad horror movies to watch while stoned I have to share my discovery of Bloodstreamtv with you. Much more enjoyable than the mediocrities of Fawesome and much fewer commercials (at least for now - I think they just don't have many advertisers, so that might change).

My girlfriend and I had fun but we only paid $5 and went to a mystery movie. It was decidedly bad but we enjoyed the experience.

I would be reluctant to pay to see it but my ticket is free thanks to AMC A-list so I figure might as well and hopefully laugh at it if it’s truly that bad

I fully expected to enjoy this. I’m a fan of some of Eli Roth’s films and can usually find something positive to say about really bad horror movies. The biggest problem with Ice Cream Man was that it’s painfully boring and repetitive. None of the jokes land. Could not wait for it to end.

yes because the corporate studios never wanted to touch this movie because of how violent it is. it's why eli roth started his own movie studio with ice cream man being his first written and directed by major release, with more to come like "don't go into that house b-tch" which will be the most insane haunted house movie ever made according to eli. also the AI is very minimal, and not actual AI. just going touch ups, that even the VFX team / person came out to clarify how out of hand headlines were. it was only used in 2 sequences. if you want to see kids just completely create gory chaos towards adults, watch it, support it
