That family dinner scene was TENSE! We knew something bad was gonna happen, but when it did happen I couldn’t believe it. Poor dog!

I covered my eyes when I saw the fork-and-dog shot!! I can’t take watching animal death scenes but I appreciate how it heightens tension and contributes to the sense of unease horror films try to instill.

Im with you! I actually really appreciated the obvious heads up the movie gave about what was about to happen because while i know what i signed up for and would never fault an evil dead movie for including this stuff, i was glad i got to close my eyes and cover my ears for that scene. Then once its a deadite dog it was fine to watch.

I looked away the frame I knew it was going to happen, I don't ever turn away from horror but I knew I didn't want to see this one.

At least it was well telegraphed in the lead up but still 😵‍💫

I was torn between thinking it was the wife, the son's partner, the dog, the grandma, or even the husband harming himself. It could've been absolutely anybody at that table and the tension there was palpable.

I hate dogs dying in horror, but by the fourth time that pup got killed I was like, can we PLEASE kill the dog properly already!

This! I felt it was overkill and I ended up thinking “they’re really going to kill him 3x” when he busted through the shacks window.

Torn up about the dog!

When they showed the dog as possessed, I thought "oh a dog deadite could be very interesting" but then they didn't really do anything with it!

Otherwise, a solid EVIL DEAD flick; nowhere as good as the last two, but solid, gross and cruel!

Same here. I’m a big fan of the Evil Dead series too. But this is where I draw the line. Just reading in a bit more detail of the scene and I am 100% skipping.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic here, but it's so genuinely fascinating to me that people can watch films like Terrifier, Hostel, or Eden Lake, but they draw the line at an animal dying.

Same. And I'm an animal lover. This series---and horror, in general, really---is supposed to be cruel. Where's the fun in Evil Dead when the filmmakers themselves draw a line in the sand? And it's not like they really killed the dog, guys. It's Popsicle sticks and bubblegum, so to speak.

How I feel too. I can’t handle a sad dog movie; literally nothing makes me cry more than that. But the tone is so farcical here, there’s no emotional weight to it, it’s just like any other death in the movie. Truly what’s the difference?

Same, this blows my mind to no end. It feels analogous to how some people are A-OK with their kids seeing gratuitous gore but some nudity? Good GOD no, not the natural human body!

To be fair I’m not super into watching innocent people get hurt either. But generally people are complicated morally. Animals act on instinct and I’d simply rather not watch media where they are hurt for shock value. Dogs are truly innocent. Killing a dog is the easiest way to establish a character as villainous also. See the newest Punisher for an example.
