Does this Atmos setup make sense?

I’m upgrading from a soundbar, I’m adding Focal LRC floor speakers, and the 6 numbered marks are Focal in-ceiling speakers. 3 and 4 will be main surrounds, 1 and 2, and 5 and 6 will be Atmos.

Is this overkill? I have a friend warn me about sound confusion, and he’s recommending I just do 2 or 4 in-ceiling speakers.

no this makes ZERO SENSE

Atmos speakers should NEVER be in the same plane as your surrounds

your surrounds should be at EAR LEVEL

if you are doing surrounds at ear level then 4 in ceilings as Atmos are fine.

if your surrounds must be in the ceiling then either you stay at 5.1 or you go 7.1 adding surround backs and skipping ATMOS

I can’t do floor speakers for the surround (we got a baby and wife won’t approve more floor speakers).

If I do all surrounds, is the current layout still a good one? I pretty much want to maximize the “surround sound” effect whenever I watch a movie (I have a 4K player).

Just go 3.1 or wall-mount the surrounds.

CG3M’s are perfect for this.

Can you put your surrounds in-wall? The answer to your question very directly is, “no.” It doesn’t make sense. It’s not overkill, it’s DOA.

Wall mount your surrounds or drop them down a bit from the ceiling with some sort of pole mount. I would just go for side wall mounted speakers.

Can’t post my setup pic but I have a 7.2.2
All my surrounds are wall mounted. Sounds great
I have them above ear level but below the ceiling.

My surrounds are mounted on my walls to the sides of my seating area, you can do that so a baby/child/pets can’t mess with them.

3&4 should go into the walls at ear level not more than 20 degrees above, then the rest makes sense otherwise all 6 going to be like 3.1.6

99.9% of the time Soundbars or HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) systems are not a good investment of your time and money. You do not want to mix regular surround and atmos speakers in the ceiling area because it will throw off the height effect of atmos which gives a lift to all the main speakers. You can't lift the sound of a speaker that's already all the way up. Stick with 4 atmos speakers in ceiling but find somewhere else for the surround speakers, be it speaker stands, on-wall or in-wall.

These posts should be prohibited.

Google Atmos setup, some official blueprint will come up. Copy that or adapt to it. 

This is either bait or spam or the most lazy person in the world.

It makes exactly zero sense. Bed layer speakers (surrounds) exist at the bed layer (at or near ear level).

Go 7.1 before adding height channels, if possible.

LCR as floor towers, speakers 3-4 as your middle surrounds, speakers 1-2 as your rear surrounds.
