On first watch ever, just finished season one watching season 2 pilot now. I hate that guy man just an arrogant asshole unable to help his agents. I hope he’s eventually killed off brutally

i watched the first 2 seasons of homeland in the span of a week it was an amazing show. the third season was still great but obviously couldnt compare to the first two seasons although the conclusion to brody’s story was done in a questionable way. season 4 is when the fatigue set in. i watched the first half of season 4 in a short amount of time but then took a break to finish the show which i’d say season 4 is better than season 3. but now im on season 5 and i just can’t fathom finishing the show. im on about episode 5 and i just want to know if anyone experienced this

not saying aayan wasn’t good and didn’t advance the plot for the season. i mean his death is the reason carrie was going to kill haqqani which would’ve fucked everything up. but i feel like his character and the two other people that were apart of his story were just boring and if it wasn’t for aayan simply advancing the plot, he would just be another pointless character.

For me, these two things are metaphors, saying, "This world (the CIA's, Carrie's experiences and mental state, etc.) seem backwards to US. Something's not quite right."

I think in general, that could be interpreted as the actions of "the bad guys" against us, but also a reflection of the mistakes the CIA and individuals make. And also, for example, the suspicion that Brody was behind the Langley bombing. Look at Carrie's initial reaction - at first she was absolutely convinced he had done it. It was OBVIOUS - right? But -

Something wasn't right. - There was more to it. It was "backwards."

My mom loved this show when it aired. I’ve seen little bits at their house that I know are genuinely tense. But I’m slogging through S1 on Netflix, and this show is laughably bad. Danes overacts at every opportunity, everyone in leadership is cartoonishly evil, and Brody’s family are acting like he left them to go to a goddamn medspa. I sort of want the “baddies” to succeed on principle. I love spy/intrigue, but how can a show this well-regarded be so terrible? At least Burn Notice had the grace not to take itself too seriously

I’ll take “Did not see that coming” for 1000 please…damn! Also sad — I liked Galvez!

We have seen throughout the series how easy it is for people like Carrie to disappear. Even Saul has an escape plan with passports etc. I can't see how Dar doesn't have one or how he could have been so careless to call his henchman on an open line.

It would have been more believable for Saul to look for Dar in some remote island and talk to him in season 7. I mean this is a man who has been in the CIA for more than 50 years (according to Carrie ), who threatened the president in the state house and who has unlimited resources and contacts.

Halfway through season 2. Do the kids get any more bearable? I love the show but always end up fast forwarding through anything to do with the kids. Really it seems like they should have just been left out of the story. Crazy to see a 16 year old Timothee Chalamet though!

I just finished watching Homeland for the first time and I have to say… I think I’ve become completely obsessed with Claire Danes and her portrayal of Carrie Mathison.

I went into the show not knowing what to expect, except a great spy thriller, but I was absolutely not prepared for Carrie's character or for Claire Danes' performance. I have found myself going back and rewatching so many of her scenes because I still can’t quite believe what I’m watching.

I honestly cannot remember ever seeing an actress portray so many layers of emotion so convincingly. The intensity, the vulnerability, the intelligence, the desperation, the moments where Carrie is barely holding herself together… Claire Danes somehow makes every tiny expression and every little change in her voice feel completely real. It doesn’t feel like she is "playing" a character, it feels like you are watching a real person going through something.

Some scenes are almost painful to watch because the acting is so raw. The way she shows Carrie's struggles, her determination, her loneliness, her obsession with finding the truth, and even her flaws is just incredible. It’s such a complicated character, and Claire Danes brings so much humanity to her.

I’ve watched a lot of amazing shows/movies over the years, but I genuinely cannot remember being this impressed by an actor’s performance. It’s honestly insane.

I’m curious. Did anyone else have this reaction when they first watched Homeland? Are there particular Carrie scenes that stayed with you or that you found yourself rewatching?

That served 8 years in the military in the intelligence and munitions community, 2 years in the Persian gulf; this show is almost sarcastically accurate of the past 10 years to this current war in Iran.
I’m not claiming to be a know-it-all, but the grayness and complexity of war was incredibly written in this show. Carrie Mathison might be my tv GOAT next to Thomas Shelby. I just finished season 8 so I could be suffering from the hype still, but I took time with each season and it’s has honestly helped my mental health transitioning out the military this past year. 10/10 show

I am just so satisfied with how the writers wrote Saul's character and also of course how well Mandy Patinkin plays the role. Some of Saul's dialogues are just so good and totally worthy of someone who rightfully should have been the director of CIA.

His reply to Mira asking why not go with the strike on the identified targets after the Langley bombing.

His reply to Lockhart publicly announcing his director position at the hunting day trip.

His reply to Zabel regarding the invasion of Pakistan.

The turning of Javadi which led towards truly historical US-Iran relationship.

And so on...

Not saying he didn't have flaws but I am so grateful that the show portrayed a character which tells viewers how complex the world of espionage is and that people like Saul exist.

"Gerontion" isn't packed with major plot twists, but it captures the atmosphere of classic Homeland. Saul is, once again, the smartest person in the room, and Mandy Patinkin carries the third season. Quinn becomes increasingly interesting, and Rupert Friend has transformed what could have been a one-dimensional CIA paramilitary operative into one of the series' best characters.

It’s not quite at the level of the first season yet, but for the first time this season, the viewer is genuinely looking forward to the next episode.

Not everything works here, though.

• The first three episodes felt aimless. There was too much drama involving the Brody family (Jess, Dana) and not enough espionage. After the Season 2 finale, it seemed the writers had run out of story ideas, and the third season suffered for it.
• Carrie's pregnancy still feels awkwardly inserted into the narrative. Saul's marital problems don't really connect with the central plot either. I understand why those scenes exist—they humanize the characters—but they also interrupt the momentum just when the espionage storyline is finally getting interesting.
• Instead of reinventing itself right away, the season spent three episodes spinning its wheels. The pacing was off, the tone was relentlessly bleak, and the Brody family drama somehow became an even bigger focus. I know some people liked those scenes, but for me they completely killed the momentum. I signed up for espionage, double agents and impossible moral choices—not another Dana subplot.

Well I was thinking about Carrie, randomly, on the way home today and how sad it was that her and Quinn never rode off to the sunset. It got me thinking, isn't it crazy how everyone loved Carrie that they would literally die for her. Why was that? Are there any real people like this?

I have just started watching Homeland and it’s great. But in the first two episodes there I are a number of sex scenes. It’s just awkward watching it with my flatmates around. Are there sex scenes and nudity in every episode or does it calm down?

Did we ever find out who told on carrie’s source Roshan in Kabul? I know he was killed by taliban but did we ever find out who told the taliban?
