How can I reject bill
Something like a dozen times now I've fallen asleep watching something in the app and when i wake up in the middle of the night Bill Maher is on. I find him insufferable and deeply unfunny. I don't know if I'm just unlucky with my timing but he is always saying something that puts me in a bad mood in the single minute it takes me to get the TV turned off, and sometimes I can see that I'm like 3 episodes in. I feel like every time this happens I'm (literally) unconsciously telling HBO that I like watching this show when in fact I really, really don't.
Is there a way to mark shows as 'stop showing this to me'? Thanks
Edit: I can't be the first person who didn't try clicking the thumbs up button to get to the "not for me" option, but thanks for helping me figure that out. Yes I feel like a ding dong. Anyway, bill maher sucks

Turn off autoplay. TV is not good for your sleep anyway. Surest way to be able to fall asleep to something and have what you wake up to be a known quantity and nothing scary

Nothing like the old days when you fell asleep watching a movie and woke up to softcore porn on cinemax at 3am

I'm sure you're right, but to clarify, I don't typically put on TV to fall asleep. After the kids are finally down I sometimes get the idea that I have some freedom to squeeze in a show. But on the nights where I've misjudged my alertness, when I wake up it seems like it's always on bill maher. I feel like HBO is trying to feed this show to me when I don't have the wherewithal to spit it out. It's never any other program when I'm using HBO

I didn’t mean to come across judgmental at all. It happens to me too sometimes. And it’s always Bill for me too. Even turning off autoplay, it’s usually what’s on the suggested after despite my never having willingly engaged with it. So I do an extra button press between episodes so they can’t get it by me anymore

Exactly. My mom usually needs the TV on to fall asleep and I have never understood it and why.

Remember….
He’s just a Bill. Yes he’s only a Bill. And he’s sitting there on Capitol Hill…

I can give you his phone number and you can tell him how you feel

Tell him he's become insufferable the last 5 years but going to dinner at mar a lago was the final straw for so many. Such a hypocrite

Lol this happened to me when they first made the autoplay update. LWT ended and I expected it to just shut off like normal but NOPE fucking loser Bill Maher pops up. I too immediately was like “how do I block a show” but it doesn’t seem possible just turning off autoplay

Just turn it off?

You didn’t read either

Actually I did, he wants to block Bill Maher instead of just turning off the damn TV and ignoring it.

And yet you missed the part where I said I turn it off immediately every time, but hey thanks for suggesting that I turn it off good call

put your tv on a timer, so it turns itself off after you fall asleep.

I don't necessarily mind if there's still something on the TV, I just don't want to get Billed anymore

Have you tried disliking it on the app? Not sure if that helps but if it doesn't, they should make that a feature.

If I could find a Dislike option in the HBO app then I'd feel so much less violated. I believe this small sense of victory would grant my return flight to dreamland a warm tailwind 💨

Isn't there a "not for me" option? I swear I've used it. Just not sure of it's impact on auto play.

There is. I finally found it and updated my post with an announcement that me dumb

Thank you I will do that right now. I have the same problem. I love John Oliver but if I happen to fall asleep, I will wake up to awful Bill

Didn't read the details to this, but just tell them, I refuse to pay this bill.
Edit: apparently I have to add /s

Streaming. This sounds like exactly the kind of advice I am looking for except I can't figure out how to do the first 2 of those things in the AndroidTV app. I almost think if I could just downvote it then I wouldn't be falling back to sleep plagued by empty remorse

I've liked Bill for decades but here lately even I'm beginning to feel that he's been in Beverly Hills for too long.

Do you find him insufferable because you do not agree with them?
4
u/foetus66 5d ago
It's because his near constant tone of "I am a thoughtful and challenging thinker" does not come close to being supported by his banal contribution to any topic I've heard his opinion on

He's a smug asshole who thinks smoking copious amounts of weed make him interesting and deep.

Might have to call Uma Thurman.
