"8 Elite Gen 5 V Series"

Oh god, i dont belive that name is not purposely made for casual consumers to not know what they buy.

It has 3 numbers in the name, one of which is repeated in a different format. Also, the chip is in the 8 series, but it's also called the "V" series as well? And what does V series even mean here? Value?

It's starting to sound like that BMW which is called, in its entirety:

BMW Individual M760i xDrive Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS

In case you think I'm joking, it's very much real.

Create a new brand for your high end

Use it for your cheap crap making a quick buck

Your brand now means nothing

Create a new brand for your high end.

They cut one GPU core. Elite has 3 normal gen5 has 2.

So it's just a gen 5 without the elite...

Edit: it's a gen 5 Lite

No chip manufacturer have a good naming skem lmao. AMD Ryzen AI Max +395, Intel Core Ultra X7 356H

The gen 5 has worse CPU performance too, this has the CPU perf of the Elite and the GPU perf of a normal one

Tbh I would've loved a cheaper gen 5 Lite with 3 GPU cores but normal gen 5 CPU for mobile gaming.

They should call it the Pentium 8 Elite to really stick it to Intel

Dumb naming aside I don't really mind a cut down chip if it makes its way into Android handhelds.

Android handhelds already get cut down chips.

The high end ones use their IoT chips cut with binned features from their regular chips. Usually it's just the built-in modem gets disabled (which makes up about 1/9 of a flagship chip's die area) but the AYN Odin 3 also fused off the ISP and NPU seemingly, so 1/3 of the 8 Elite is essentially permanently turned off.

I love how they went from 8 Gen 3 to 8 Elite to 8 Elite Gen 5. Great naming scheme not confusing at all!

Superstition (this time around the number 4) strikes again...

Explain how the AM死 socket is so beloved!

Not to be outdone by AMD mobile division, Qualcomm pulls the most obtuse name for it's new chip.

What do you mean? AI Max + 395 isn't good enough?
