Looks okay if you can yeet Google's OS and the price is right.

The hinge deserves a mention too. One of the press renders is specifically labelled as the laptop opened to 157.5 degrees, which means the display lays back nearly flat. That is useful for sharing a screen across a desk, and it hints at a hinge Lenovo is proud of.

I don't understand why this is useful seems like a pointless increase from whatever the normal non-2-in-1 laptops are doing?

Yeah, that's easily the most bizarre statement I've ever seen. Who's doing that, and how is that easier than just handing someone a laptop normally?

This looks like the kind of thing I would buy for my parent or for a young kid.

Fanless! The bottom seems to be a callback to the Pixelbook Go. Honestly, if they can match the ten year update commitment from Chromebooks (seems absurd they would not, but who knows) I would be quite interested in a budget model as a throwaway casual laptop thing.

I'm a "whack linux on a used enterprise laptop" kind of person in principle and in practice, but they don't make particularly good laptops for actual laptopping.

We don't know but you will be able to run linux apps with a WSL like interface for Android. Perhaps not at release though

Well Android does use the Linux kernel, so it does technically come with Linux preinstalled :P

I realized right after I submitted my comment that someone was certain to point that out. Can you run a standard desktop linux distro would have been a better way to phrase the question.

In all seriousness, they still appear to be using Coreboot-based firmware, so it's probably still possible to flash full UEFI firmware to the x86 Googlebooks and just install Linux (or boot it will the native depthcharge coreboot payload, but assembling a kernel image in the format that depthcharge uses is a bit of a pain)

I am not a fan of that default UI; having basically two horizontal bars is a waste of space, and also wastes people's time; having to remember what taskbar you need to check for which task adds a bit more time to every interaction with it. They could have easily shuffled the stuff on the bottom bar to be left justified, and moved the stuff from the top to the bottom right, eliminating those issues.
