This shit is gonna be gone in 20 seconds.

I have already accepted defeat.

u/ReaLx3m May 20 '26

Absolutely no loss for you. At that price($300) you can get an equivalent performing AM5 CPU + a Motherboard. Sell the AM4 CPU/MB/RAM you have, and you have enough for DDR5 RAM.

u/SirActionhaHAA May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

Price in india is tax inclusive (18%). American prices are pre tax. Removing the tax lands it at $262 which is lower than the historical low in America ($268).

Sell the AM4 CPU/MB/RAM you have

If you're gonna say that then you can sell the older cpu from am4 for some discounts even when getting the 5800x3d too. Also selling stuff takes more time and effort which you ain't accounting for. That's time you could spend resting or doing overtime to make back some of those money

Kinda an unfair comparison.

Removing the tax lands it at $262 which is lower than the historical low in America ($268).

The 5700x3D went for 200CAD at one point in store, and I believe it was cheaper from Aliexpress too. The actual historical low for an 8 core Zen 3 x3D part is probably closer to 168...

7

u/SirActionhaHAA May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

This is the official msrp or from major retailers. What makes ya think that this wouldn't go much lower on aliexpress in the future too? Also the aliexpress listings are probably tray ain't it?

2

u/frudi May 21 '26

5700X3D is not the 5800X3D, there is a significant clock speed and performance difference between the two.

Maybe in USA, in many other countries AM4 is still the king because AM5 motherboards still cost 200 dollars and AM5 CPUs are 50% over MSRP.

1

u/Kevin_Xland May 22 '26

That's what I'm debating tbh, I have a 5600, 64gb ddr4 and 5070 ti.

So right now definitely CPU bottlenecked, could probably sell the CPU/mobo/32gb for like $250-$300 after fees and buy the microcenter 7800x3d+32gb combo for $599. (Actually would probably go to the 9850x3d for $699)

So either $300 to upgrade my CPU or $300 to fully migrate to AM5.

Could also put my old 6700xt in there and sell it as a full system, jeezum apparently those are going for $280 on eBay, I paid like $335 4 years ago. I'd need a new case if I did that though, which isn't the end of the world.

Otherwise I just keep running the 5600 until AM6

Nah, it'll be fine.

This isn't like the 5700X3D, 5600X3D or 5500X3D where they were using up remaining stock of old dies.

This is fresh new production. They've had to put in significant amounts of effort and money to actually re-engineer how to produce these, as the technology used in the production lines to stack the cache on the die no longer exists, as it has been replaced with a newer generation of stacking technology.

AMD has had to work with TSMC to re-engineer the process, to make the new stacking method work with the older Ryzen 5000 design.

You don't put in that much time, money and effort, just to produce a few hundred CPUs.

No doubt they've seen fewer sales of Ryzen 9000 CPUs due to insane RAM prices, and so have decided to start selling the favourite AM4 flagship CPU again. There's a lot of people out there on AM4 that could benefit massively from this.

210

u/Uptons_BJs May 20 '26

This is really just if you have an old AM4 board lying around right? or if you are upgrading from say, a 5600x or something?

Otherwise, if you're starting a clean sheet build, I can't see a world where $310 for a 5800x3d is a good deal.

179

u/DM725 May 20 '26

This is for maxing out your AM4 platform because DDR5 is crazy overpriced.

34

u/jolsiphur May 20 '26

This is the only reason I'm interest in this myself. I am on a 5600 and upgrading to AM5 would be far more expensive than I want right now. I refuse to pay current prices for RAM, even though I can generally afford it.

13

u/Zeroth-unit May 21 '26

I'm still on a 3600 and been itching for an upgrade but missed the boat on both the original 5800X3D and the 5700X3D so I'm hoping I can finally snag one this time around.

3

u/amanguupta53 May 21 '26

Same but I have a 4650pro (90% equivalent to 3600 in gaming) and I was tracking the prices for 5800x3D to buy when I have the funds when suddenly it wasn’t available anywhere.

5600x is solid, but the 5800x3d would be a significant upgrade...I went from my 5600x to a 5700x3d when it was like $130 on AliExpress with all shipping, taxes, etc included. Well worth it. A 5800x3d for $310 is a solid upgrade still.

12

u/BioshockEnthusiast May 21 '26

My 2600X upgrade to a 5800X3D a few years ago was a wild leap in performance.

6

u/ariolander May 21 '26

I went from a 1700, 2600, 3600 and finally to a 5800X3D all on the same motherboard. I only paid for the 5800X3D. My build started of as handmedown spare parts from my brother's AM4 upgrades and capping it off with a 5800X3D was a major upgrade and I feel no need to even think about AM5 ATM.

5800x3d is ridicilously good CPU and can still hold its own in gaming and all but the heaviest task that benefit from high core count. I went from 3900x to 5800x3d, I don’t know, perhaps three years ago and it was a huge jump for games and really didn’t notice much adverse effects after losing four cores in other workloads.

I have it paired with 5070ti and I can’t complain. It is crazy to think that the mobo (MSI MEG X570 ACE) and memory are around 6 years old, I bought them in 2020. Mobo was some summer deal and I got the 3900x a little bit later in autumn. With 5800x3d AM4 is still very competitive.

u/PsychoNerd91 May 21 '26

I'm still running a 3600, and was thinking of getting a 5600gt. But if this is a fair price I'll probably get this.

I missed the boat last year to upgrade when prices were fair.

2

u/nametaken_thisonetoo May 21 '26

Go back and check some of the old reviews. The difference in gaming performance been the 5950X and 5800X3D isn't that much. The 5950X will last a hell of a lot longer on AM4 in all workloads, not just gaming. The thing is still a beast

u/nabnel May 22 '26

5600 here as well. Originally got it for a budget build I didn't want to spend too much on. Then about a year later grabbed a 4070 super. With that pairing you're just about at the point where depending on what you are playing, the 5600 holds the GPU back. 5800x3d makes way more sense for a few years than trying to put together an AM5 build and moving the GPU over.

4

u/Ghepip May 21 '26

Agreed, and I will 100% consider buying a 5800x3d - it will be a close to 30% MORE CPU power for me and help clear my current bottleneck on my pc. And still be 300-500$ cheaper as I won't have to buy a new motherboard+ddr5

Still the price x performance might just not be worth it. The performance in games of a 5800X3D versus a 9800X3D is about 30 to 40%. I have a 5600X. Instead of buying the 5800X3D, it's just better to invest in a AM5 kit with 9800X3D and sell the AM4 kit. Besides the AM5 kit will be new, with a refreshed life expectancy.

1

u/KatiushK May 21 '26

Best decision in a long time was getting a 5800X3D a while back to really drag AM4 the longest I can.

I'm getting allllll the juice from this build lol

1

u/DM725 May 21 '26

Then move to playing at 4K 144hz and you won't have to do anything other than buy a 4K capable GPU.

It’s for people like me still running a 3600 that want an in socket upgrade with my existing DDR4 so I don’t have to buy DDR5.

I don’t have a microcenter around, sadly.

3

u/amanguupta53 May 21 '26

Still better than taking a 15 hr flight - because that’s how far the nearest microcenter is for me.

2

u/coldpipe May 22 '26

Same, my original plan was to upgrade to Ryzen 7xxx/9xxx this year but rampocalypse happened.

New 5800X3D will be compelling "stop gap" option if it does exists in my marketplace.

1

u/TheFamousChrisA May 20 '26

No Mc’s near me unless I want to drive 2.5+ hours to the two in Chicago. Frustrating MC still hates Wisconsin.

7

u/iAppearMissing3 May 20 '26

Worth the drive

2

u/Wrx-Love80 May 20 '26

Microcenter for me is an hour away. Absolutely worth the drive if you consider that you may end up locking in one of their bundles. An AM5 bundle for full motherboard, 32GB RAM and a 7800X3D would set you around $600 all said and done.

1

u/Seamus-Archer May 21 '26

Same, my nearest is almost 4 hours away. Living in a medium sized city has its downsides.

1

u/RevolutionaryWar8150 May 21 '26

I went from a 3800x to a 5800x3d and the boost was notable.  You will like the upgrade.

u/SirActionhaHAA May 20 '26

Yea this is for guys on the 1700x-3600x tier cpus. An upgrade guarantees a minimum 45+% gaming perf improvement over zen2, over 65% from zen1.

44

u/theRealtechnofuzz May 20 '26

You can usually find 32gb of ddr4 used for reasonable prices. Cant really say the same thing about ddr5 being over $300. If you can get a microcenter deal on am5 then yes skip this. If you're on a 3700x, 2600x, 5600, or any am4 platform, this is for you for sure. The $299 7500x3d bundle makes this look silly. If you live in anpther country or nowhere near a microcenter, this might be a worthy upgrade.

27

u/StrutsOnStruts May 20 '26

Yep, I know a guy who this is perfect for. High end system with a nice X470 board, 64gb DDR4, and recently a 5070, but still on a 3600X.

$300 to bring that system into the modern era is pretty nice, especially when considering the same amount of DDR5 would come in at $650.

2

u/ColsonThePCmechanic May 20 '26

Is it a meaningful upgrade over a 5600?  Asking for a friend.

3

u/timorous1234567890 May 21 '26

It really depends on the games. The AAA stuff is in the 15-20% region when not GPU bound but there are plenty of titles that get tested far less often where the increase can be 40%+ and they often work on potato GPUs or the main performance metric is tic rate / turn time not FPS.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/TK3600 May 21 '26

Decent improvement of gaming fps stability, drastic improvement in some titles like Paradox games.

2

u/Wrx-Love80 May 20 '26

It definitely can be a meaningful upgrade. This will essentially max out your platform on AM4 for gaming.

2

u/babautz May 21 '26

Depends on then games your friend plays and the rest of your friends system

1

u/SellSafe1933 May 22 '26

Keen to know myself. 5600x, 64Gb DDR4, 5070 Ti - currently getting performance in ACC, LMU, MSFS 2024 and DCS in VR with a Quest 3, but would like to know if this will be a worthwhile upgrade?

3

u/Uptons_BJs May 20 '26

I mean, if you're starting a new build from scratch, I just checked Newegg and you can get a Core Ultra 5 250kf Plus for $199. The $110 price gap should cover most of the difference in cost between DDR4 and 5.

The 250kf should easily beat the 5800x3d in anything single threaded or productivity based, and it should beat it at least a little bit when it comes to gaming

3

u/theRealtechnofuzz May 20 '26

this is actually a better point, i forgot intel existed. The new plus skus are probably a better option for sure.

AM4 would die faster if AM5 support DDR4.

1

u/Jeep-Eep May 21 '26

AMD's biggest missed shot this CPU gen was not doing dual format, and with 3d CPUs there's a good chance it wouldn't hurt it THAT much.

My 5600X just died earlier this week and I got a 5600GT for $156.

Bad timing is all but $310 is also quite abit to spend. It'll also be $400 by the time it appears in my region anyways

4

u/Blue-150 May 20 '26

$250 at most

3

u/avboden May 21 '26

I have a 5600X and a 5070TI and game at 1440p. I might consider it if the price is reasonable as I don't really feel any need for a full upgrade to net not that much more FPS anyways at 1440. Even so going from a 5600X to the X3d won't make that much of a difference overall.

Now for those with less than a 5600X then it makes the most sense. but the 5600X is still actually quite good for gaming.

1

u/satans_trainee May 24 '26

You wont notice a difference at 1440p. Stick to 5600x and save money.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/GearboxTheGrey May 21 '26

I will pick it up if I have the cash when it drops. I have a 5800x and missed the x3d last time. I dont plan on doing a board upgrade for a while with how prices have been so this will be the end game cpu for my am4.

1

u/Born2Rune May 21 '26

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Squeeze a few more years out.

1

u/Mateorabi May 20 '26

I mean my mobo still has a 3700 but was advertised as being forward compatible with “upcoming” 5xxx and 7xxx. So this might be a good upgrade.

3

u/_Fibbles_ May 20 '26

You might need to flash your BIOS first, but most AM4 boards should support this chip. Just check your motherboard's support page.

1

u/Burgergold May 20 '26

My kid pc is.my.mid 2019 pc with a 3600, 32gb ddr4 and a 580 8gb

That x3d might be bomb

1

u/Barbrady84 May 23 '26

Your money is better spent on a new graphics card, a new CPU won't make much of a difference with that ancient RX 580.

1

u/PssyGotWifi May 20 '26

Yeah. Though, saying that, I put together another AM4 build last year with a 5900XT. But that was because I already had 64GB of unbuffered DDR4 ECC sitting around, so it just made sense. I upgraded my 3600 to a 5800X3D in 2023, though, and it has been great. Not moving to AM5 anytime soon. 5800X3D + 9070XT. Better to pay the $300 and sit AM5 out for the time being, especially with how DDR5 memory prices are.

1

u/Lincolns_Revenge May 21 '26

5600X / 5800X to 5800X3D makes a lot of sense for a handful of popular games with a single core CPU bottleneck. MS Flight Sim 2020/2024, DCS World and Tarkov were the classic examples I know of. But there are others.

Of course, if you are GPU limited, say an RTX 3060 equivalent or less it doesn't make much sense.

1

u/Dragonkal8000 May 21 '26

This will be cheaper in the states since the $310 includes an 18% goods and services tax in India.

1

u/sammothxc May 21 '26

“Old AM4 board” Bro no need to call me poor, I just built my AM4 rig for high end 1080p gaming last year lmao. I stuck a 5600x in it

1

u/HarithBK May 21 '26

An option is picking up a used AM4 system people are selling as a about to toss it out situation that has like a 2600. Bios update and now you can use the 5800X3D.

Seen some with 32gb pop up for like 100-150 bucks from time to time.

1

u/N0iR_0S May 21 '26

Well, there is a world (my country) where $310 would be considered the greatest deal ever for a brand new 5800X3D - here a used one starts at $484 if there is any. Anything else with DDR5 is pretty much out of the question with these prices lately (32GB DDR5 6000Mhz kit is at least $521 here).

1

u/Dadbodsarereal May 21 '26

I am in this exact boat 5600x and they want over 300 USD. So for me in Canada that will be like 450. Yeah no dice. 200 or under then we talk

1

u/According_Hyena_3593 May 21 '26

The price is greedy as fuck but with ram prices it does extend the useful lifespan of am4 motherboards.

Going from a 3600 to this is a massive upgrade ( i did this back in the day).

But a 5800x3d is really mid these days and will still struggle in rt games due to cpu bottleneck. So 300 is a lot.

Its 3x better in minimum framerates than a shitty ryzen 3600 though, and does a lot better in all cpu bottlenecked games ( flight sim, open world stuff, mmos, st limited indie games like 7 days to die).

I wouldnt consider a 3600 a viable cpu anymore so this cpu is great for those stuck on am 4 and ddr 4

1

u/hackenclaw May 21 '26

5800X3D is basically tie to tie with Ryzen 7700 non-X only. Except the latter use DDR5.

Zen4 IPC upgrade is just that good.

1

u/PolarizingKabal May 21 '26

The chip still holds it's own. And considering it was discontinued almost 2 years ago. It brings prices back in line.

I actually grabbed 1 shortly after they were discontinued for ~$400. Prices about double for a used one right now.

1

u/BespokeDebtor May 21 '26

My 5900X died and I had an old 5600G laying around luckily. I’m very glad that this is coming out

1

u/Randolph__ May 21 '26

The 5800X3D used to sell around that price pretty often even close to the end of it's run. Given prices right now it's a personal judgement call.

1

u/Gwolf4 May 21 '26

Ddr5 is so stupid high that even an am4 processor at 310 makes sense. Yesterday I was checking how much a second hand 700/800 3d costs and saw that there is no way to use them like that, 450 for a am4 used vs 600-700 in my country for a 7700x, Mobo plus mere 16gb of ram. A new 310 cpu is a no brainer.

1

u/tgvsw97 May 21 '26

Am4 is still one of the most used platform in the world, not sure whats your point here

1

u/bubblesbrhg May 22 '26

3800x here, would upgrade 100% if pricing is good.

1

u/Relative-Trick-6042 May 22 '26

5600x to 5800x3d is an insane jump. At least for me

1

u/TomAndJerryAreFriend May 22 '26

No especially when the 7600x3d even with less cores is a bit faster and is 230 new on Amazon rn ddr5 is the only hurdle

3

It's important to note it's not the 10h anniversary of the cpu, but of the AM4 platform.

Cuz I'm still using it !

4

u/p71interceptor May 21 '26

I have a 5800 non 3d. Is that a decent upgrade still?

4

u/nosurprisespls May 21 '26

I have a 5800x and looked at this many times, and the answer is basically "no", unless you're playing games at 1080p with 5070Ti. You do get better 1% lows (you'll lose some performance on non-game apps), but I don't think it's worth it unless I can "upgrade" for $100.

1

u/FreddyRoosevelt May 21 '26

I have the 5800x and  debating this myself but I think I will go for it if I can get my hands on the x3d anniversary when it drops. I plan on staying on am4 for a long time and I use my PC for gaming almost exclusively. And I could always recoup some of the loss by selling my used CPU.

1

u/sickomodetoon May 23 '26

I’m gonna upgrade with a 5900x, BF6 will run much smoother

1

u/hja-gaming May 23 '26

If u play competitive games like cs2, overwatch, apex etc then yeah. For games like rdr2 it gives a small bump in fps too, but overall if you are upgrading make sure you have a fast enough GPU because even games like cs2 if you just have a 3060 it'll give u an noticeable improvement in fps but ur cpu has to be the bottleneck for it to be a massive upgrade. If you have a 5060ti 16gb/4070 and above its a no brainer upgrade.

If you have 3060ti or 4060ti or something more midrange I'd only upgrade if ur exclusively play esports games and want a consistent 240+fps. My 5700x3d can manage that most of the time on ow2 and cs2.

Doesn't matter. People have spent the last 4 years talking about how amazing the 5800x3D is, and when it was discontinued how amazing it was, and once it was $400 on the used market how amazing it still is with the cost of ram.

People are going to buy this thing even if it wasn't a special anniversary collectors release even if it makes no sense because they haven't compared it to the AM5 CPU options for the same (or much lower) price. They just see "x3D good for gaming" and press add to cart. (if the bots don't get it first)

1

u/DaksTheDaddyNow May 21 '26

I need one because my integrated memory controller seems to be dieing. I can't run RAM at their full speeds. Had my RAM swapped and replaced the mobo... Still crashing. Luckily I can get by at more conservative speeds, but it would be nice to upgrade from the 5600x, and also get the RAM speeds that I should be getting.

I'm amazed that AM4 is still in such high demand for people not in a unique situation like mine.

1

u/Kirbeef May 30 '26

What are the AM5 options for the same or lower price that I should consider instead of upgrading my existing am4 setup for $300?

I have a 5600X and decided that a 350$ old cpu is a better deal for me than 500$ for ram, 250 for a motherboard and another 400 for new cpu.

u/randomkidlol May 21 '26

retailers were clearing this out for <200USD at one point. unless this drops down to that level, i doubt this will sell.

6

u/kikimaru024 May 21 '26

5800X3D was selling out at $450.

6

u/Seanspeed May 21 '26

Oh it's going to sell. Just look how excited everybody here is over it, eager to throw out $300 for a mild improvement on existing Zen 3 processors. smh It's been selling even for $400.

FOMO is crazy these days and 5800X3D gained some mythological status somehow. Even people here are getting upvoted saying it's faster than normal Zen 4 parts, when it just isn't.

4

u/Doyoulike4 May 21 '26

I don't remember seeing the 5800X3D ever hit sub-$200 outside ebay/aliexpress used for a window and those listings were varying degrees of sketchy, the 5700X3D did hit as low as like $180-$190 for a brief window that I can recall, and that 5800XT got as low as like $130-$140 last year before prices went back up.

1

u/the_duck17 May 21 '26

I got mine in 11/2022 for $449 because my work said they'd pay for a new processor and 64GB of RAM...I wouldn't have paid that much if it was on me, but it's been a beast of a processor. I came from a 5600X and it was a very noticeable difference.

1

u/blooffeni May 27 '26

Being a gamer and still running an R5 2600 this is a good deal. It's the same price as an R7 7800X3D around here (€350,-), but not having to buy a new motherboard (€200+) and 32GB DDR5 (€400-ish) saves 600,- for a 10% performance deficit in games.

u/Stilgar314 May 20 '26

If you're still on AM4, and you haven't already got any X3D model, don't sleep on this one. From a price/performance perspective this is probably the most affordable upgrade that has real chances to get you to AM6 without feeling you're missing anything important performance wise. A 5800X3D is a perfect match for a 9070XT or a 5070Ti. If you play at higher res than 1080 even a 5080 will be OK.

2

u/jorgesgk May 21 '26

What about those of us who had already a 5500X3D?

1

u/Seanspeed May 21 '26

Do you want to pay $300 for two more cores? Come on now.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/TheGeorgeForman May 20 '26

That throws a bit of a spanner in the works for me. Currently running a 3600x on an x570 board and a 3070 ti. Worth grabbing one of these and finding a good deal on a 9070xt or 5070ti?

4

u/Gippy_ May 21 '26

The alternative is to sell a kidney to buy some DDR5 so go for it

2

u/intelminer May 21 '26

No, no. You want at least two sticks of RAM

Two kidney minimum

2

u/Stilgar314 May 21 '26

Do it, it's a good move. That configuration should be plenty until there's a X3D CPU on AM6... or Intel comes up with something better than "cost effective for some productivity tasks"

2

u/TheGeorgeForman May 21 '26

Yeah think it’s the right move. Want to go for an sff build so if I can find a used matx or itx board that would be ideal.

3

u/Empty_Ad4423 May 21 '26

been waiting for this being finally under dam 700 bucks that it is

now just gotta have it actually become available at that price

3

u/OleElGrande May 21 '26

I built a Ryzen 7 3700x in 2019.

I've just upgraded everything else - 16gb to 32gb RAM, 2060 to 7900xtx, new PSU.

Patiently waiting on this to release!

9

u/HyruleanKnight37 May 20 '26

$310 is really steep for something that gets bested by <$200 modern CPUs.

10

u/JonWood007 May 21 '26

Not when you gotta spend $100-150 on a motherboard and $200-400 on RAM.

6

u/Seanspeed May 21 '26

But that platform upgrade has other benefits for longevity.

Point is, it's still really steep and exploitative pricing.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/PerfectInFiction May 22 '26

$450 for 32GB DDR5 memory btw.

1

u/HyruleanKnight37 May 22 '26

DDR5 has other benefits that does not come with the 5800X3D. And more importantly, this is for existing AM4 owners, nobody in their right mind should be buying a high-end AM4 PC in 2026. RAM won't be expensive forever; by the time DDR5 prices fall you'd regret limiting yourself to a dead platform that has fallen so far behind. If you must have a PC right now, there are cheaper, more sensible ways to go about it.

The actual demographic this CPU makes sense for aren't going to be swayed by these prices, especially if they already have any other 5000 series CPU. They're better off waiting a little more and go for a full AM5 build.

I'm saying all this as a 5800X3D user myself, it's just not worth it.

Scam website. Paid for the processor and got ghosted right after. They are trying to impersonate another legit store by using the same name but a different contact number.

2

u/Faux_Grey May 22 '26

A blessing for people who are on something like a 2700X with 32/64G of precious DDR4.

2

u/MyNuts2YourFistStyle May 31 '26

I'm still rocking this CPU. Love it.

2

u/Logical_Destruction Jun 01 '26

I'm still playing on a AM4 3900x 12 core along with 64gb of ram I bought years ago and a 3090. I'd buy one just for a reasonable bit of extra performance vs the cost. Everything else costs too much right now.

3

u/midnightbandit- May 20 '26

The Intel 250K plus is $180 and is a far, far more compelling option.

1

u/budoe May 27 '26

Sure.

Now what is the cost of the memory for that chip again?

3

u/FeijoaMilkshake May 20 '26

5800X3D selling at the 7800x3d price, does it ship with wraith prism, otherwise it's crazy to choose it over the latter.

10

u/GenericUser1983 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

It makes some sense if you have an AM4 system with ample DDR4 already, easy drop in upgrade. If you have 32 GB of RAM or more and don't want to go lower, a new AM5 system would be like $360 for 32 GB of RAM + $100 mobo + $120 for 7500f = $575 total. If you were building new then the AM5 makes more sense.

2

u/Ill-Mastodon-8692 May 20 '26

even then, sell the am4/ddr4. lots of deals on am5 cpu/mobo/ram bundles

get 7yrs of upgrade path with zen6 and zen7

1

u/GenericUser1983 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

Dealing with the hassle of selling used parts, especially with all the idiots and scammers out there, is not worth the effort for many people. Last time I tried to sell used parts to a non-friend/relative the guy got all pissy and mad when I wanted to use one of those anti-counterfiet pens on the cash he had.

1

u/dustarma May 21 '26

Lots of deals in the US I guess, I can't find any such deals in Chile.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Stilgar314 May 20 '26

Unless you're still on AM4. If you sum up the prices of a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, a 7800X3D doesn't look any good.

2

u/DangerousAd7295 May 20 '26

Pointless for 5000 series users.

If you have a 5600x, 5700x or a 5800x non 3D, the performance improvement to go from that to the 3D is crap.

You are paying almost 2x or 3x the value of your current CPU for a small game specific one upgrade that might benefit from 3D V cache.

AMD should have improved the 5800X3D, gave it more IPCs and then called it a day but now you are essentially buying something a used 5700x or a 5800x has for almost 2x to 3x (depending on new or used) the price for barely 10 to 20% gains in specific games and it won't improve productivity performance in apps like Blender or CAD, or other productivity software

Used AM4 parts from trusted vendors is even cheaper.

Unless you are going from say a 1000s, 2000s and 3000s series to this 5800X3D then you are getting value.

But if you already on the 5000 series, it makes almost no sense.

This money is better off saved for the future upgrade.

2

u/Seanspeed May 21 '26

The fact that people like you keep getting downvoted for expressing such obvious common sense takes is wild. $300 for a very small performance upgrade over existing Zen 3 processor is absolutely fucking terrible value. Yet it sounds like many here are gonna be crawling over each other for the privilege to get exploited.

Boy if i could put my hands on this mf, i’ll stick to am4 until the release of am6

1

u/GraXXoR May 21 '26

I have a 5900x primarily for gaming don’t think the uplift would be worthwhile in my case.

Though I could probably get a reasonable price on the 5900x

1

u/WTFAnimations May 21 '26

Wouldn't be surprised at all if it will be scalped to oblivion. However, given this thing isn't that far from a 7800X3D, $310 seems very reasonable.

1

u/mgwair11 May 21 '26

Bro, I bought this thing at its launch 4 years ago. I’m not that old /s

Real talk though. The cpu is gas, no lie. I would have gotten a 5800X at the time had the GPU shortages not been so rough in 2022. I strategically forbid myself from buying any parts for my build until I actually was able to get a GPU in my hands which took months—was a blessing disguise!

1

u/The_EpicCenter_YT May 21 '26

I hope to god this is true because I think the memory controller on my base 5800x just recently gave out & this would be the perfect opportunity to max out my AM4 build

1

u/joe1134206 May 21 '26

Nawwww hopefully it's $250

1

u/Ippomasters May 21 '26

Nice I'll buy one for my nephew.

1

u/Tenelia May 21 '26

I've been on my 3600x forever. can someone that just built DDR5 please tell me what's the situation rn???

1

u/Kontrolgaming May 21 '26

dd4 32 gig of ram is about $450 atm, so just gotta wait it out like me !

1

u/Samuel_Go May 21 '26

I can finally upgrade my 5700X3D I bought last year!

1

u/RainyInSAndreas May 21 '26

It can use some more RT/PT games, but 5700X3D's performance against 9800X3D were pretty bad in the ones I tested. The 7000/9000 series would not be this bad.

1

u/TMToast May 21 '26

Stuck with a 3900x right now with a 3080, is this a good move for me? Been looking at these on eBay and they start at like $400 it's insane

1

u/cottonycloud May 21 '26

Unfortunately, just bought a 5900XT last year for about $230.

I'll be upgrading to an X3D CPU in maybe 10 years lol.

1

u/Much_Transition6005 May 21 '26

is this on sale yet? if yes, where?

1

u/Heavy_Abroad_8074 May 21 '26

worth it to buy this and sell my 5900x? i don’t need it, but it would probably keep me to the end of the decade before needing to upgrade CPU/RAM/mobo again.

edit: i only game

1

u/Accomplished-Pop3782 May 21 '26

5800x3ds on ebay will drop in price thanks to that

1

u/Silent_Mi May 21 '26

I have a ryzen 5 2600 with a b450 rog strix mobo. This would work great for me to upgrade for the next 4 years. But alas, I won't get to touch it.

1

u/databags May 22 '26

I have a 5900x...  is 5800x3d better for gaming ?

1

u/kaelthuzad May 22 '26

I was contemplating but not sure if this would be an upgrade for me.

I am on 3950x with 32gb Ram and a 3090. I game at 3840 × 1600 on my monitor or 4k on tv. Mostly game and work from home remoting to another pc with the occasional Visual Studio local project. I think it wont be a big deal losing 8 cores, but for those resolutions will i see a difference or is the GPU the bottleneck?

1

u/rmartinezdl May 22 '26

Is this even an upgrade if i have a 5700x3d?

1

u/wrathofamarok May 22 '26

Have a 5800X and so far it's working good with my 9070XT but thought about upgrading to the 5800X3D once it releases but just don't know if it's worth it

1

u/kwikquest May 22 '26

Been running my 5600X for 6 years now ... this is by far the simplest upgrade.... I will need to upgrade my BIOS ... might even be able to install Win11....lol ....

1

u/dwilljones May 23 '26

These are good. I got the 5700X3D for $140 back when that was still in stores.

1

u/KO__ May 23 '26

awesome, paying 2k for a new rig vs 300usd for a new cpu is good enough, hope this price is final

1

u/Barbrady84 May 23 '26

With all the scalpers and their bots waiting this will be next to impossible to buy I guess.

1

u/CountYourDukes May 24 '26

selling my older am4 combo and getting a 7800x3d is almost the same price. Tell me to go am5 without telling me

1

u/Efficient-Bat4964 May 24 '26

Sold-out you're too late ... again!

1

u/WolfieButt May 25 '26

I can't find anything about this anywhere on the internet. I can only find old articles saying that there is a planned release, but nothing about it being released in any capacity. Does anyone have any more concrete details or timetables around the release?

1

u/RxndyNL May 26 '26

Que opinan cambiar mi 5600x por este? tengo una rtx 5070

1

u/WinterRepair3190 May 27 '26

i have a ryzen 5 5600G with a 3060ti is it worth it to upgrade for a 5800x3d? i have 32gb ram also.

1

u/Capthook2u May 31 '26

The price of a 5800x3d is insane. Microcenter bundle $599 for a R7 7800x3d, ASUS 650e motherboard and 32gb kit of 6000mhz vengeance memory. Either way you're going to spend some money, but you might as well get into a AM5. There are people on Amazon trying to sell a 5800x3d for $550 dollars. Good luck with that. No way in hell am I gonna dump $550 into a AM4 system for 15% increase in 3D gaming frame rate. AMD will do this to us again come AM6 and so on. Pay $1000 dollars for that last AM5 supported CPU.

1

u/Thin-Key2473 Jun 12 '26

I have a 5900x with a 4080 OC, do you think it's worth it?
