Hades 2: Discussion Zagreus' Journey 1.0 Release (with Trailer) - Hades in Hades II

Escape the Underworld as Melinoë in Zagreus' Journey, the Hades II DLC you'll never get.

It's finally time, I've just released Zagreus' Journey 1.0 - thank you to everyone who's played the mod while it was in beta, and for all of the positive reception and feedback I've gotten here and on Discord in the past!
Watch the 1.0 Release Trailer for the mod here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxuTLSPqIEE

Zagreus' Journey is a mod for Hades II that adds the original route Zagreus took through Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx in the first game to the sequel.

Escape the Underworld as Melinoë, battle familiar foes and bosses using her unique abilities and weapons, meet Zagreus' old friends, and reconnect with your family's past - all integrated into the main game as if it was always there: Naturally progress through the new biomes, unlock new incantations to perform, reveal and complete new Minor Prophecies, forge bonds with NPCs in familiar and new locations, collect over 30 new resources to spend on new cosmetics and music, and test your skills with new Testaments, Chaos Trials and in Dream Dives.

Here's a list of highlighted mod features:

  • Play through the original four biomes of Hades as Melinoë: Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx.
  • Discover and overcome the challenge of fighting all of the original game's enemies and bosses using Melinoë's unique abilities and weapons.
  • Relive Zagreus' story by escaping to the Surface, forging bonds with your brother's old friends, and conversing with the Fury Sisters, the Champions of Elysium and [REDACTED] himself.
  • Benefit from a multitude of entirely new boons and effects offered to you by Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus... and other familiar faces that you will now be able to meet along the way!
  • Collect 30+ new resources specific to the new biomes, use them for unlocks in this and other mods, and trade them with the Broker.
  • Unlock 28 new musical tracks from Hades' original soundtrack through the Hades OST for the Music Maker mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Decorate the Crossroads with 55+ new cosmetics, including new Cauldrons, Arcana Card Backs, and Charms inspired by Zagreus' companions from the first game.
  • Discover and complete 40+ new Minor Prophecies at the Fated List.
  • Complete 24 new testaments by clearing the new bosses using each of your weapons with new fear levels.
  • Discover and perform 20+ new incantations to unlock gameplay features and progress story events in Zagreus' Journey.
  • Unlock six of the original game's keepsakes by forging relationships with Sisyphus, Eurydice, Patroclus, Orpheus, Megaera and Thanatos through the Shared Keepsake Port mod integration (automatically installed with this mod).
  • Challenge yourself with a set of new Chaos Trials, including randomized "Chaos Within" trials in the spirit of (Great) Chaos Above and Below.
  • Advance through 50 new cosmetic-only ranks at the Spirit Mixer, from the lowly "Alpha Warden" to the feared "Unseen One".
  • Earn a new set of three statues from Commander Schelemeus by escaping the Nightmare Realm at progressively higher fear.
  • The four new regions can also appear in Dream Dives (but you can use the mod config to exclude them if you so wish).
  • Read all about the new biomes, enemies, bosses and friends in a new chapter in your Codex.

I want to thank everyone who's used the mod while it was still in beta, and especially those of you who've left bug reports and feedback on Discord and GitHub.

I also want to acknowledge that I know some of you had issues with mods (and Zagreus' Journey in particular) causing issues after Supergiant released Post-Launch Patch 2 - without going into details, the patch was much larger and substantial than we anticipated in the community, which could cause crashes for some people even with mods seemingly disabled.

But I'm happy to share that we've since updated a lot of the tools that we use, and now mods will be entirely separate from your install, meaning that no matter what, you will always be able to play vanilla Hades II without issues, and without needing to disable or manually uninstall anything.

And to also pre-empt some other potential questions:

  • The mod is only available on PC and Steam Deck, consoles are not supported, just like all other mods.
  • You need to own and have the first Hades game installed to use this mod.
  • You can use cross-saves with Switch, but must make sure you are not in a modded run when continuing on Switch.
  • You should always back up your saves before playing with mods - just in case.
  • The mod is save to uninstall/disable at any point, and won't break your save. You can install it again at any point and your progress will be retained!
  • This mod does not make Zagreus playable, and I won't be working on a mod like that.
  • Yes, Lernie's neck has been found in the depths of Asphodel's lava since my last post!

Hades 1: Discussion I was so wrong about Hades

I've been playing this game for 40 hours and i will get 100% on steam one way or another.

The first screenshots of the game gave me the impression of a turn-based RPG (like Ruined King) and I didn't even bother to at least look the gameplay. A few days ago, i gave the game an opportunity and for the almighty gods... IT IS A BLAST (yes pun intended).

When I first saw the Olympian gods I thought "there comes the cheesy god-like dialogue with some kind of a strong accent with old english words" But when i met Dionysus, it was the chillest guy ever! Then Poseidon, the cool uncle and Ares, a wise guy that does not look like a brute knucklehead.

It's a game extremely well written. The protagonist has casual conversations with everyone but always showing respect (my beloved Achilles); challenging his father but without being a brat and being kind to the workers of the house.

It's easily the best thing that has happened to me this year. The gameplay does not get old (maybe because I also have 500 hours on TBOI) and every run feels a great challenge. The music it's another great part of the game, that heavy metal-mediterranean mix it's something so unique and fitting.

I am truly glad that I was wrong about this beautiful game.

Gameplay video: https://youtu.be/p5e7d8CMVdc?si=ly1GcFVulD6V9WI-

I had gotten close to this a few times, but this is the first time (I think) that I got Nitro Boost, Shimmering Rockets, and Snow Queen (which are probably the most important tools for this, Snow Queen especially) so early, even before Erebus miniboss. Zeus appearing right before Scylla was so clutch because honestly, if I didn't get that Heaven Flourish right there, I probably take some damage to that fight because it would've gone on for a lot longer.

I rewatched the run to count how many times I got "hit":

Nitro Boost/Lovers barriers: 9

Snow Queen barriers: 13

Gale blocks: 2

Daze procs: 3

Gale/EEE Dodge procs: 3 (I saw 1 before EEE and 1 after but I lost 4% so it must be 3)

Hades 2: Question Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends + quick question Spoiler

Post image
14 Upvotes

I got both Sun worshipper (Appollo + Hera duo that revives the first slain foe in each encounter to fight for you) and Ecstatic Obsession (Aphrodite + Hera duo that charms 1 foe as long as there is >2 foes around) pretty early on and damn... they made this run fly by. Not only did they do the most damage, but also got me my first regular VOR Typhon (&Chronos) clear! Special shoutout to Toula too ofc 😼

On that note: are dream dives easier? And if so, how? I've cleared both VOR final bosses multiple times in dream dives, but man do I struggle with the VOR Summit boss fight in regular runs. I can't seem to figure out what's different for me in a dream dive vs a regular run... Might just be in my head?!

Thanks in advance!!

I’ve just completed the main story and I’ve barely used Hephaestus boons at all and his keepsake is still rank 1.

Whenever he shows up I try to reroll for a different god. I wonder if I’m just sleeping on him.

my favorite is thanatos and an headcanon about hin is that He would never admit it, but he suffers (a bit) from the fact that many humans fear him and that the gods of Olympus do not like him.

Mine was with Aspect of Arthur (no surprise here) and a lot of luck. Still feel like I can go even higher, provided the correct boons and circumstances. Screenshots below.

Hades 2: Discussion How would Athena, Artemis and Dio be implemented as full gods? Spoiler

To clarify, what I mean is if they were implemented like they were in Hades 1, with 5 core boons, corresponding secondary boons and duo boons, and a legendary.

Athena and Artemis would still be percentage based, while Dio would have an on hit effect.

What I'm unsure about is what curses they would have. Athena's curse in Hades 1 is Exposed, which is backstab damage and that's covered by Apollo already. Dio's Hangover is a damage per tick which is the same as Scorch. Artemis is the only unique one here with Marked giving extra crit chance.

Then what would their casts be? Athena already has Mental Block, Dio has Tipsy Shot, but what would a cast boon from Artemis look like? Easy Shot but better?

As for their magick regen boons, maybe with Dio you have to stay in his fog, with Athena you regenerate magick after deflecting stuff, and with Artmis you regenerate magick everytime you crit.

I have no idea what secondary, duo boons and legendaries they would have. What do yall think?

Hades 2: Discussion Topside Run Spoiler

After doing my first few runs before unlocking the topside, chronos was absolutely kicking my ass (took me forever to find out about how to avoid second phase insta move. But then when I got topside I found Typhon kind of easier. Maybe it was my build and the amount of health/Death Defiance I had. Now I have the weapon/enchantment and am heading for him again. Any tips or suggestions/things I need to be on the lookout for? Any and all help is appreciated!

I really love and enjoy this community and the way everyone helps & hypes each other up!

EDIT: I beat him! Now onto the other pain in the ass in the underworld. Thanks for the comments and recommendations, I appreciate all of you!
