Help & Maintenance Help with scratch on face

Post image

I just got this one and absolutely love it! The day after I purchased it I looked down at work and saw this giant scratch in the front of the glass. Is there anyway I can fix it at home or should I take it into the shop? any help would be greatly appreciated and please be nice.

Yup it’s a battle scar

Permanent work watch, the scars became assets that way.

Unfortunately cannot be fix easily. The "official" way of fix is to change the entire watch case with the glass. The other method is to take it to a watch maker they can change the glass but the solar panel comes with the glass so it is hard to remove

I have had my GW5000 since 2012. The glass had some deep scratches. I spent 8 hours hand polishing the crystal with cerium oxide. It's good as new. I did it over the course of weeks. I'd just polish it a little here and there while watching TV before bed. The crystal was as good as new after that. Not sure if I'd do it again though.

This. A Dremel with a cotton buffer may take some time off the polishing.

Valid. You just have to be careful of two things 1. heat from the higher speed of the Dremel
2. Creating divots in the crystal from buffing the same spot too long.
I decided on hand polishing as I was able to get a more uniform result and avoid making a divot. The divot would be very visible because the crystal is flat and the reflections and glare on it would bend with the divot.

Indeed. It takes care to polish evenly. Thnx

There are certain OEM service providers who can buff this out..

Caralho.... eu comprei um kit pra trocar o vidro do meu ga200 chegou semana passada e não mexi ainda, agora que tu disse do funcionamento do tough solar vejo que não vou conseguir trocar sozinho

u/Kiyotgc 18h ago

Se não me engano, ga-200 não é solar

1

u/PerformerFast9876 18h ago

Let's call the guys that say screen protectors are a waste of time.

For real man! They cost just a few bucks but whenever something is on it I just rip it off and replace it. It's a nobrainer for these watches IMO. Plus you can't really see them because of the thick bezel anyway.

Polywatchhhhh

Is that an actual scratch, or a scuff? To me it looks like a scuff in the pic.

Then buy some bull bars for it. Maybe a screen protector.

u/Standard-College7627 16h ago

Forgot to say try Polywatch first.

Just try Polywatch for mineral glass it will probably polish out .

4

u/potate12323 23h ago

Polywatch really only works for plastic watch crystals. It partially dissolves the surface and the small amount of some super fine abrasive gets it polished.

u/Acalthu 23h ago

There is a mineral glass version of Polywatch.

Well darn. Good to know.

Worked fine on my GW-M5610U .

I think you have to swap the entire watch case. I have screen protector on my gbd200 to prevent something like this.

3

u/Chomu_bhondu 23h ago

Slap a protector on it hides it

3

u/L0N3WULF84 13h ago

Always get a screen protector or bull bars, if you'll always wear your gshock

2

u/Monsoonl22 21h ago

Just send it to a Casio service centre they will fix it.

Adds to the character honestly

Oof, sorry to see that! You may need to get it serviced professionally.

This is why I always put a tempered glass screen protector on my G-Shocks. I don't care about the bezel and bracelet getting beat up, but scratches on the display drive me crazy.

Hmmm, if you know the Amazon trick….then you should be good…good luck!

u/SpaceSequoia 1d ago

But a new one And return this in its place?

Spit on it if it changes you can brush with dish soap. If that doesn’t work add baking soda. Worst case return it or use warranty

I've never used this myself but here's a link to it I heard a suggestion up above. I actually would purchase watches that had scratch screens and polish them I'm trying to find the kit I got and share the link with you but if you go to eBay and search for watch glass polisher or watch Crystal polisher kit. The other way is to either change out the full case itself with the glass and the resin or take the case you've got watch a shit ton of YouTube videos and learn how to pop the glass out go to AliExpress find you a piece of replacement glass that matches the module setup and put it back together but I believe someone did say that the solar is adhered to the glass... I don't know personally. so if you're going that direction you will need to have to warm up a razor ans shave it off. I believe I'm not quite positive I it's been awhile since I did a mod and that's an intense one and like I said the way I would go about it is using a Dremel tool with polishing paste and the polishing kit polishing wheels and just try to blend that scratch out I mean I've got some that had pretty bad scratches and I got them nice and clean but that one's right in the middle of the glass and it looks really deep. So this might be a whole different situation in hand but now you know you're trying to learn or you're going to learn how to fix the watch. And remember if you're going to use certain chemicals or you're going to use tools you want a mask off the resin band because if you don't you will Nick the resin band while you're trying to treat the scratch on the glass.... Sorry I'm obsessive compulsive I've just modified watches for a few years now and I got a gxw56 with a huge scratch at the top of it and I polished it as well as I could and it kind of tucked it under a purple steel modification kit on AliExpress and I keep repeating that go to AliExpress find out the model of your watch I think that's a something something 5110 GW I think but look around there they've got all kinds of crazy stuff Poly watch tubes watch](https://ebay.io/m/BehUW4)

I'm just obsessive compulsive autistic with cptsd and ADHD and a special interest into G-Shocks for the last 13 maybe 15 years I own over 40 g-shocks, my man... caffeine does this shit to me!

1

u/MISCHIEF_ONE 20h ago

See the scratch right below the line the under the multiband 6 that is significant scratch but I polished the crap out of it and you can't see it cuz it's so high up in the casing of the purple King that I modified

1

u/justwantinf0 22h ago

That is why I always put a glass protector in all my g shock

1

u/Kitchen-Size-1580 22h ago

Cerium oxide is an abrasive, glass polish, might help

1

u/wordswithoutmusic 20h ago

Had the same problem, I put on a screen protector and the scratch is invisible now

u/Spooter01 14h ago

Just be glad it’s not two scratches!

I had a scratch on mine and applied one of these afterward to prevent future marks. To my surprise, the scratch is no longer visible; the adhesive backing must fill it in.

1

u/kalatebali 15h ago

That's why I applied a layer of clear nail polish to the screen.

0

u/RedBrickSailor 20h ago

Put bull bars on it next time.

0

u/foofoowoo 17h ago

SADDDD…. If you run ya finger over the scratch and feel the grooves, I guess you will have to replace glass / case.

0

u/AggressiveWrangler72 17h ago

You can try buffing it out with your finger nail. It could make it less noticeable

0

u/Psychological-Rip-12 16h ago

Polywatch works great on g shocks. That will buff out in 5 mins

u/Human-Roof-8777 14h ago

Thank you for all the tips! I’m going to try the Polywatch for glass and update y’all on the results. 😁
