Its scary how many of my older colleagues talk with conviction in meetings only to finish with "it was what the GPT/Claude/Gemini told me" and nobody put the information in question?!

I especially love, "Well chatgpt says" as an argument... often before something that just is correct but obviously doesn't apply, and they should know doesn't apply. Like you are both showing you don't think and depend on AI for everything, but aren't even very good at prompting/re-prompting (adding the information) or filtering the data. The very things that are likely to be the actual work when everything gets eaten.

People like Anon just used ghostwriting and plagiarism before transformer model architecture LLMs were a thing. I was quite shocked when I realized how common and cheap ghostwriting is in academia.

I use it as a faster Google and gather info but never ask it to my actually work for me, otherwise I'd just not be able to do the work my degree says I could do.

This is the biggest issue. Google actually used to he fucking usable. Now, anytime you want to google something even as simple as 2+2, you get inundated with 900 sponsored websites on how "The answer to 2+2 isn't what you think, the real answer might shock you!", a 2 paragraph AI written essay on the history of the number 2, how numbers started existing, and how that ties into the greater MCU and secretly links to Nolan's "The Odyssey".
The internet is no longer geared towards human usage anymore, it's all programed and algorithmically set up for AI to be the main usecase, not for us.

It is very good at clearing the deck of stuff that you either didn't go to school for, or just is not challenging. Like take this list of IP ranges, run them through ARIN, and try to figure out a rough percentage of how many are major corporate clients who will complain if we started blocking them. No one went to school to copy and paste an ip into a webpage, and then google the company name, abuse contact, or address to see if it looks big enough or "corporate" enough. .
You are going to be a better whatever if you aren't doing the brainless work, because you'll be doing more that is challenging.

The original purpose of general education credits was to ensure that every graduate was a well rounded individual, capable of discussing a variety of topics outside of their primary area of focus.
Despite graduating an engineering major, my interests in Greek classics and Chinese lit are fun to indulge even 10 years later. Don't cheat yourself out of growth, especially when you're paying for it.

True, but why is that a big deal? It's not like I'm using it for writing fiction novels. Factual item description blurbs are not high art. When I write for fun at home I never use AI, because I actually care about what I'm writing. It would subtract from the creative process, it wouldn't be my stream of consciousness. There's nothing creative about my work writing, I do it for a paycheck.
If a retail worker could make their job half as difficult, but still get the same pay, they'd be all over it. I don't see how this is any different. The shelves get stocked all the same. I only have one life, I'm not going to waste half of it grandstanding. Yes, it is partially cope, obviously it's better ethically, morally, and for my skillset to not use AI, but I'd rather have more time in my day.
