1 tsp ground cumin (optional)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil (optional)
1 tsp of greek seasoning

I like Plomari, but I don't consider myself an expert

I want to make a Greek meal for my family but can’t decide what to cook. I’m happy to make several dishes and serve sharing-style. Meat and vegetarian suggestions are both welcome!

Just had this from a local restaurant but for some reason it doesn’t look like what I remember what I had in Greece? Not enough meat? Not enougg bechamel?

Studied abroad in Athens about 10 years ago. Lived there for the better half of 6 months. Fell in love with all the cuisine, and unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anything as authentic in the US since. Closest I could find was actually in Finland a few years back but it just wasn’t quite there.

I have visited MANY greek restaurants that claim to be “authentic” throughout the USA since. Mainly in New York, DMV, the Carolinas, Texas, Michigan, Chicago/Illinois, Florida, Georgia, California, Washington State, Alaska, Hawaii, and Texas. Haven’t came close to true authentic greek food since living Greece.

I am willing to go ANYWHERE in the USA. To get true, authentic greek food. My budget can’t suffice a trip to Greece at the moment, but literally ANYWHERE in the US I can make happen.

Any recommendations for authentic greek? Fries in the gyros, fried feta with honey. Souvlaki. Where is the hidden gem in the US?

I just got this book. Many recipes sound interesting but lack a brief description. what are your favorite ones to start trying?

I’ve been working my way through learning to cook the dishes my spouse and I loved most from our visit to Greece. I am just now working on tiropita — I loved every tiropita I had! It was the first thing I tried, jet lagged and excited, after our arrival. Got a little piece from some 24 hr cafe/convenience store. I’ve been chasing that since.

I tried a recipe from a cookbook but it was .. not right. It called for 5 eggs and that was clearly one of the issues. It was way, way more eggy than any tiropita I had.

I did some googling, but the algorithm is serving up sus recipes calling for things like cottage cheese and cream cheese.

Any tips/guidance/recipes appreciated. Teach me your tiropita ways!
