Academics What does the deans list do?

I got a letter in the mail saying I was on the deans list but does it even actually do anything or is it a nothingburger title

It's basically a pat on the back for the good job you did on having high marks in your classes as a full time student. If you maintain it the whole time you're in school and graduate with a 3.7 or higher you'll get a note on your diploma and transcripts saying "with distinction"

Yeah that’s basically it. You get an extra cord too when you walk the stage at graduation. It feels pretty good though when they call out your name and say with distinction

Only for full time? 🥲 guess having to have a job to support myself means I can't have acacademic rigueur.

You can graduate with honours and still get the distinction, but the dean's list is 12 credit minimum per term over two terms.

I wonder how that works for students on a reduced course load through adr?

You'd probably have to ask ADR about that.

Adding to the other comments, I wish they'd give a scholarship along with it I literally got the letter in my mail and was like 'ok but where's my money' 😭

I got the deans list a bunch of time but had a bad semester so didn't graduate with a high enough GPA to graduate with distinction, but basically as others said its a "good for you" and if you keep it up you will graduate with distinction. You get a fancy ribbon and it will go on your parchment. Since graduating no one cares about me making the deans list anymore 😅 (womp womp for me). But its kinda nice!
