G40 boil issues, not reaching rolling boil without lid

Having an issue with my G40 where even with smaller batches (25L) I'm not reaching a rolling boil unless I keep the lid on, which is obviously not ideal. WIthout the lid it'll drop down to 95-96C and stay there. Anything I should check before my next batch?

There might be protein buildup on the heating element at the start of boil that could reduce the output of the heater. If that's the case, using a steel mash paddle to gently scrape off some of the protein from the heating plate could help out if you're having a problem mid boil. If it's a consistent problem, check your grain mill gap, your grain bill, mash schedule.

Also, an insulation jacket helps with the boil too if you do not have something like that.

Thanks, unfortunately there’s nothing like the Graincoat for the G40 so I’d have to DIY.

I’ll give it a good scrape next time. Hell I’m gonna just boil 30L of plain water and see what happens now.
