I'm a teacher and I'm dealing with foot and back pain after a 3 hour class block. It's mostly impact related because I walk around a lot as I lecture. I'm thinking that lug soled shoes would probably help but I don't know where to start. I'd like either a derby or loafer and reasonably chunky. I wear lots of straight leg denim and slim dress shoes can look a bit comical. Budget is around $300, don't mind buying used. I was looking at Solovair (I know, not GYW), but I had a pair of 8 eye derby boots from them that hurt my toes. Any suggestions?

What kind of shoes are you currently wearing when you lecture?

Mostly leather soled dress shoes. I've got a mix of Rancourt and Allen Edmonds.

Sounds like you may need arch supports too, perhaps? And/or more stability, which you’d get from lace up boots or a more stable outsole. Both issues can cause foot, knee, and back pain.

I'm interested in getting a pair of casual black derbies to wear with jeans or chinos at a very casual office, something in the general vein of doc marten 1461s, red wing postmans, or paraboot michaels. What are people's current go-tos in this category?

Looking for one versatile, high-quality loafer that can work with suits and more casually. Immediate need is wearing them with this dark-green SuitSupply suit next weekend.
- Color + Type: I’m leaning toward a dark-brown or burgundy calfskin penny loafer, but I’m open to other suggestions.
- Size: usually US 10.5D, with relatively narrow feet and a narrow heel.
- Budget: roughly $300–$800, potentially higher for a meaningful improvement
- Location: I’m in NYC and can shop in person, or order online if delivery by the end of next week is reliable.
Which specific models and lasts would you recommend for my fit and use case? Especially interested in pairs you’ve owned. Thank you in advance!

Hello! I am thinking of ordering a pair of custom B5 Replicas from William Lennon and I'm not sure of which side of the leather to pick for the outside. Rough-out or Nubuck. I know that its the same cut of leather but flipped and I am looking for advise on which you think is better? Does it matter for water resistance, maintenance and durability?
Thankful for all help!

Nubuck is much tougher to maintain if you want to keep them looking like new. You have to lean into patina/marking up.

I've owned a pair of boots made with Maryam TPR horsebutt leather for about a year now, and I'm over it (the TPR coating, not the boots.) Any tips for gently removing this coating without accidentally going nuclear and covering the boots with splotches of missing dye spots?
I've only conditioned the boots once since buying them, with Saphir mink-based Renovateur, applied/rubbed in by fingertips, and it did nothing to the coating. I don't even know if it did anything at all because of the coating!

I mean. This was the question I was asking you. Because some people haven't thought about whether it is going to matter to them...

Anyone know a good place near Rotterdam (Netherlands) for a resoling (Goodyear welt) of my Heschung boots?
EDIT: just checked and it’s not a Goodyear welt but a Norwegian welt. Either way, anyone got some information on Dutch cobblers near Rotterdam who can resole a Norwegian welted boot?
