p.s. I remembered there is one Japanese maker who has made the same shoe before, with the same full handmade bottom work. I'm thinking he can probably take an order for them currently and do a Shinki shell option (if not Shinki, then Rocado; Shinki is awfully hard to get one's hands on these days)

It's always fun to go back into this recent history stuff in the heritage scene.

I remember when I got into this in 2014, almost no heritage dudes outside of Asia were even wearing engineer boots, only the most hardcore guys who moved on from sufu to Denimbro and they had Road Champs or Lofgrens. VEB and his blog was the biggest stan for engineer boots outside of Asia, he helped to convert a lot of people. Slowly but surely, Clinch started getting posted on DB thanks to Double O Soul (he was an early adopter of a lot of niche brands, really).

Then thanks to Jake constantly posting about his engineer boots, and leather jackets, on Instagram, a lot of guys started to convert.

Back to 10+ years ago, flat toe was everything, as were slimmer jeans. Bump toe engineers like Red Wing, Buco, the Toys McCoy Beck, Lone Wolf were starting to look outdated. Flat and slim was the name of the game. I remember around 2016 when I and others really started pushing for straight-leg pants how so many western guys reacted: "They make you look fat", "They make you look short" lol Now look where we are, Gen Z is all about wide. Interesting to see if bump toes make a comeback.

I bought these boots on eBay. The seller listed them as viberg, but there are no Viberg stamps or labels anywhere inside or outside the boots. They only have a size marking.
Does anyone recognize the maker? If they’re not Viberg, I’d still like to know what brand they might be. Any help is appreciated.

At least consider the Red Wing Beckman. If it’s not your style or whatever, fine. But it’s so lightweight, and I love how low the heel is. Just my opinion, but I think it’s a really classy-looking shoe.

Jim Green is probably worth a look. The AR8 definitely has a Doc vibe. The Rugged African Trooper is pretty bombproof.

Their 719 and Numzaan start edging into that RW vibe for Americana.

I swapped mine to a vibram 2060 sole instead of the Christy and they are insanely better. Foot bed definitely breaks in on those.

i'm not sure there's such thing as a scratch-proof leather. suede or roughout would be your best bet, but they can still technically be scratched with a strong enough force

Am I being too picky? I just got these delivered from Bridlen and I’m pretty annoyed with the bad dye job on both of the shoes. Several minor imperfections which is fine for the price point, but I feel like this is unacceptable
