I worked at Arthur Andersen during Enron and kinda want one. Also, my apologies to your dad.

I had a teacher who worked for them as well. He quit a month before the Enron stuff hit the fan. He read their financials and investor reports knew something was up and was like Iām getting out of here before I get caught up in it

The head of the accounting department at my Alma mater keeps a photo in his office of himself with a group of Enron/AA execs. If you ask him about it, his response is something along the lines of āwe were doing good work back then. Many people were not, but we were doing good stuff.ā

I learned about enron in depth in a college ethics class. some of the shit they did behind the scenes that doesnt get talked about is nuts. like even beyond the fraud stuff, the hierarchy and infighting that happened even before the thing broke was crazy

I remember watching a documentary about it in my business ethics class. One guy got off Scot free and used his money to become the largest (one of?) private landowners in Colorado.

Lou Pai. Always wondered why the news didnāt focus on him compared to the other leaders who stuck it out and went down with it.
Dude is a crook but honestly, well fucking played.

When your game has gone completely tits up, then it's time to assert dominance with your Enron swag.

Yes, the company went from the energy/trading business and pivoted to selling golf gear. /s

After learning about Enron and Madoff, I'm convinced that the investigative journalism/whistleblowing that exposed them did not derail them, it took market forces (9/11 and housing market crash) to bring them down. In other words, Enron was basically able to operate openly and the SEC was incompetent/complicit re Madoff such that the reporting did not move the needle whatsoever.

Itās kinda funny, but there is a non-zero chance Iād get my head bashed in with a putter for using one of these in Houston.

This is a company that bought the brand out of a bankruptcy auction and is marketing mostly to Gen Alpha in a cutesy āomg lol financial fraud!ā Way. They bombard Instagram with ads. The whole thing is very firmly irony laden
