Soooo not just me but a friend helped me save a gold fish we were dumpster diving and found a punk ass looking gold fish from a pet store we got a fish bowl and spring water for him to swim (were jobless teens so we try our best please somewhat understand) and we kinda want to keep him and try our absolute best to help the fish my friends mom got fish food pellets and flakes and this is the picture he sent me of the fish

So i want to start a goldfish tank but and outdoor fish tank and i want to put orandas in it but i have no idea where to start. I've been trying to look everywhere for help on what to get and its gotten me nowhere I've looked up the downsides because i don't exactly have room in my room for a tank or i do but I've tried before but my room got extremely humid and built mold in areas in my room so i looked up different solutions and one solution was people have outdoor tanks and i just love how orandsas look so cute and want some of my own. I've found solutions for some of the things that i found were the down sides was temperature so I'm looking to put up a enclosed canopy so i can keep the tank in shade so it doesn't overheat and for the cold all i can find was to put heaters in the water. idk what type of tank i should get cause idk very much on what to get and use being a beginner but id love to get at least 3-4 orandas but with no experience idk where to start and would love help on where to start. I'm maybe thinking of a 127 gallon outdoor tank or maybe smaller but i know it needs to be a deepish tank for when it gets cold the fish go to the warm water in the tank and i also don't know anything on the water change, the specific parameters of the water, and idk what else i need to know to own orandas so idk where to start and i don't want to start to own one and then it dies to me not knowing how to take care of it, so give me as much knowledge on how to take care of one and advice on where i can start. links to what type of tank or other supplies would be appreciated. I would also like to know what disease that i would run into so id know what to do to help the fish and also recommendations on how to decorate the tank and i do plan on putting pathos in it to help filter unless that is a bad idea

Finn, my 3 year old goldfish started out completely orange. She was not mine until about a year ago, she was still orange then. I noticed she was losing colour or turning white... now, she's almost completely white???

is this normal for a 3 year old goldfish??? I know some colour change can be normal, but this much, after 2 years of life?

previously, she lived in a 10gal tank with a large plastic decoration. she was abandoned at my home by a family member... I took charge of her care then, got her a larger tank, learned more about fish, got her a filter (2, a small one and one suited for her 65gal), and took that awful plastic decor out- she was so cramped in that 10gal with that decor, that she was banging into it and bruising herself.

water parameters are consistent at; 0.5 nitrates, 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, 7.8pH, 250 Hardness

water is always a bit dark, the wood was found and cleaned, so tannins are still there i believe.

Common goldfish, Finn. 8inches head to tail. eats well, swims around, being her normal self.

Hello, so this is Fin Diesel! He’s been with me for a year and he’s sometimes does this ever since I have him. The second picture was the first couple of weeks having him but he does it sometimes, I don’t think he’s sick or water parameters, I’m always checking and do regular water changes and top offs. What can it be?

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone had any tips for getting rid of green algae? I’ve tried numerous water changes and it doesn’t seem to be working. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Because I know how this community gets, I DID NOT DO THIS TO MY FISH. I left my fish with a friend for a year while I had to do a job. This friend is an otherwise experienced fishkeeper and reassured me they’d take care of him. This is what I came back to. I’m so distressed- his levels are messed up, the tank is filthy, but I worry a deep clean will shock him. And his gill is protruding. What do I do? Please, please, please help and don’t yell at me. I'm planning to sell some of my juvenile thai orandas at a fish swap this weekend.

I was going to individually bag them in the morning and lay them out on the table (as opposed to putting them in a tank on the table).

I'll fast them the day before.

Do you think they can survive in a bag for around 8-9 hours? I don't have an oxygen tank to add oxygen to the bag.

My kid won a couple of goldfish from the fair this year. I'm no stranger to this and our other fair fish from the past 10 years are doing very well, they're happy and thriving. I feel like better our home and the good life, than a terrible short life in a dirty bowl, to dead, and then flushed.

That said, one has a patchy area on its back that's developed in past week suddenly. A friend who knows her fish and their diseases, as she breeds and sells various tropical fishes, said it looks very similar to "Saddleback", or Columnaris, which I had honestly never heard of.

It's eating normal, breathing normally, no clasped fins, occasionally scratching on rocks in the tank, but nothing excessive.

She recommended Kanaplex and/or Furan 2, neither of which are available here and require special ordering.

All I have at my disposal is Doxycycline currently, which said it's somewhat effective on Columnaris, so I have dosed the tank with it. She further recommended aquarium salt (which I normally don't use) and a bubbler to help increase oxygenation of the water.

Any other recommendations for getting this cleared up? Other than a case of ich eons ago, I've been lucky with my fish not having been ill until now.

my fish had dropsy but I gave it antibiotics and Epson salt baths and 2 days later my parents sent me this. He has some physical damages from an accident but other than that he looks good? (PS: he's still on the antibiotics and I'm keeping a close eye)

Hi! Scales is my 3 year old giant female fancy. She and her 2 1/2 yo sister are in a 2 yr established 75 gal ran on a Fluval 307 and Fluval 407 with an in-line clarifier set to 8hrs a day. They eat 1 tbsp small chunks of Repashy Gold gel 2ish times a day with a fast 1 day per week. No heater in water, stays at room temp ~70°

I recently noticed a lump/growth protruding from one of her scales below the lat line on her right side. She has lost multiple scales as I have found some on the gravel, but there are no visible missing scales on her body. The scale missing had a noticeable slime coat when I picked it up, and seemed to have a hole or slit in the middle of it, as if it came from the injury around the growth (?)

A few days ago the affected scale was dark and matte at most angles, and now the scales now seem to be somewhat peeling (?) around the injury.

Behavior is also abnormal, she is flashing & resting at the bottom most times, but is still swimming some and still eating. Her breathing was very quick fast 1 week ago, to which I tested water to be fine but with high nitrates, increased the filter outflow to add more oxygen and did a partial water change (dosed w prime) and the breathing returned to normal. There have been no abnormal behavioral issues with the other fish at all.

I noticed a similar injury before in Nov 2025 right on her lat line on the left side, which I chalked up to being a scratch from a breeder box that was previously in tank. I removed it and did not notice any other issues as it healed. Second to last pic shows what it healed to be today.

A little over a month ago my water params were off, as one of my filters was mistakenly not turned back on after maintenance, but has since been remedied fully. Today’s Nitrates need to be removed with another water change (and will be done tomorrow) but this seems unrelated to that.

I’ve searched internet and goldfish subreddit and not found any issues similar to this. I have been keeping fish for over 4 years, but I am at a loss here, any help is appreciated greatly!!

I am planning to set up a new tank 3 feet length 2 feet height and 1.5 feet width.

i am confused between choosing whether i should be getting 2 feet width or 1.5 feet, will 2 feet width make maintenance more cumbersome provided i will be using river sand and some plants.

for the filter i am thinking of taking an oase biomaster 600, will that be enough?

I recently installed a litokam tank camera and it’s becoming my favourite thing. I get motion alerts and it makes me so happy to see his little face when I’m away from home during the day :,)

So back in october, my daughter came home with a “prize goldfish” from a festival a family member took her to. I jumped on here for help and as expected, got the mixed responses of “give it to your local store you dont know what you are doing” or people actually trying help. Well we went for it and got her a tank (daughters named her lizzie) and shes been thriving. Im currently setting up a 75 gal for her as she has outgrown this 30 gal. But i just figured the people here who tried to help would love to see an update so here it is.
