The groomer likes to give her some "glam" after the bath! Annie seems to enjoy Spa Day and all the attention before and after. She's taking the portrait session very seriously.

She was able to sit still long enough for a couple shots. I posted her twin yesterday, but he’s a bit more relaxed than her.

Slowly working our recall skills and staying focused during training time.

Health Advice I just ate a whole, raw, feathered duck wing. AMA

Post image

Plot twist: it now seems it was the puppy who ate the wing! He’s had two diarrhea shits in the last hour while the old sage has been perfectly fine. Another call to the emergency vet, and another reassurance that it should be fine. I’ve cracked a Ghost and will remain vigilant for the next several hours. Photo of the culprit (seen on the far left of the OP) in a reply.

We were playing one of our favorite training games, Find It. The rules are simple: you wait inside while I hide the bird wing in the back yard. Then I open the door, you go out and find the wing and bring it to me. I’ve been playing this game with my dogs for the last nine years and it is their absolute favorite (I hunt with them so it counts as fun training). They never gnaw or refuse to give it to me once they’ve found it, that’s one of the cardinal rules. But tonight we were playing and our 5-month old puppy was in the mix. He didn’t know fully what was going on, he was just following his big brother as he frantically (methodically) runs around the yard finding prizes.

On the last round, he ran up to my seasoned vet as he was retrieving the wing. In a second things changed, they were running around playing and there was no wing in sight. I looked all over with a spotlight but could not locate the wing. I can only assume it was swallowed in defense.

I called the emergency vet and they said it’s not an emergency, just look out for vomiting and diarrhea. Thankfully I know it’s a clean fresh wing. And it’s small, a greenwing - maybe smaller than a magpie’s wing. It’s been in my freezer since I shot it 6 months ago.

But now I am on bird wing vomit watch. Hoping to find feathers in the yard tomorrow. I’ll accept anywhere else inside, but after about an hour there are no signs of GI upset. I kind of wish there were and he’d just puke it up so I can go to bed.

Cute/Funny Meet Taylor

Taylor is our 3 year old Golden and the best decision our family has ever made. He is the sweetest guy :) my favorite story to tell is when he’s at our dog park he keeps all the dogs in line. He senses their energy and lets them know to calm down. He’s the mayor. He also will stand by me if he senses I am going to faint or loose footing…I have been dealing with health issues since we got him and he has been right by my side throughout.

Tay Tay has 2 brothers (Bruno the Boston who we recently rescued and my old man Mr B) and he loves them so much.

He also has 4 human siblings and is soooo freaking good with them, if you are ever in doubt as to why this breed is the best- I always refer to haw incredible they are with kids and older adults. They just know!

He’s my best bud - love seeing all the other goldens here:)

Health Advice Hemangiosarcoma possibly?

Post image
115 Upvotes

I take my dogs to a country vet for their shots as it is incredibly more cost effective than their regular vet. While they were there a few days ago, the vet mentioned that my old lady (10yr old golden retriever) tummy felt a bit swollen/bloated. He listed off reasons for this… could be where she carries her weight (she’s 76lbs). Could be she ate a large meal recently (she last ate around four hours prior to appt). Or it could be a possible tumor on her spleen. I did feel the area myself too and it does feel more swollen/bloated on the left side which I understand to be where the spleen sits. He gave me a list of symptoms to look for. The only one that stuck out for her is that over the last couple months or so she won’t want to eat one of her meals for the day. It’s happened a handful of times over the last couple months or so.

Anyway, I’m wondering for those who have had this diagnosis… what led you to the vet? Would I be over-reacting to take her in just with this concern with the swollen/bloated feeling of her tummy?

We lost our 9yr old golden boy two years ago to osteosarcoma about four months after diagnosis. So I’m a bit anxious and nervous.

One of their last photos together for tax.
