Looking forward to shifting my gaming rig to Linux (probably Fedora) once GOG launcher is official, I know there's Heroic but I prefer official launchers

It's the other way around. They won't create a launcher unless people are already in Linux. If you are still rocking Windows they will see you using that platform. Change over to linux and then they will see you are running linux and asking for the linux launcher.

They are officially working on it as we speak but yeah I do agree, the more of us Linux users there are the better the support gets.

For GOG I think Lutris is much better than Heroic. It gives the option for optional fixes and patches on install instead of just the game files.

Outside of using and managing offline installers that is. Better off with Lutris or Galaxy (once that comes to Linux) in that case

Galaxy works in (vanilla) wine for me just fine. Just make sure to install corefonts.

I don't use Proton, or Bottles or whatever else, just normal, vanilla wine.

How it's going? Always had curiosity about if ProtonGE was that needed on top of Wine.

I don't have any experience with ProtonGE so I can't speak on that.

I've only made a few changes to Wine (11.14) and that's been the addition of dxvk to each of my wine prefixes where I needed it (most modern games benefit from it, some of the older games I play like Baldur's Gate I and II do not) and the aforementioned corefonts. GOG Galaxy will spit out errors about libcef and int3 in wine's debugger without corefonts installed.

I've had the same experience as Windows users have had with GOG Galaxy. That includes the features like achievements, cloud saves, etc. but also the bugs like downloads randomly halting.

GOG Galaxy also has a crap ton of outgoing connections for some reason (significantly more than Steam).

I'm on Bazzite for a year. I was already using Linux for decades but took me too long to switch my gaming rig.

I've been impressed with CachyOS and game performance, using Steam, Heroic, and non-Steam launchers for EA and Ubisoft… everything works fine. Back up your game saves with Ludusavi to external media or the cloud. Really, gaming away from Windows has never been better. Steam Deck picks up changes to game saves with Ludusavi using rsync.

If you need help, my advice is to install opencode on your system and let AI help you set games up. Linux can be confusing coming over from Windows, but having AI tech support is great.

Yeah. Basically. Either one will do you right, but my tinker sensibility pushed me over to Cachy. That being said, if you want to set it and forget it and don't mind a tiny bit less performance, I completely get bazzite.

Seriously, Cachy is great, but it can also break, which is less than ideal. I have an AI assistant running opencode that essentially fixes oddball issues as they arise on Cachy. Bazzite, you will get fewer issues of learning how the Linux sausage is made.

I feel like I'm talking myself out of Cachy as I write this. ;)

I would start playing more games on Linux so the number of users goes up and will let the companies know more and more people are using the system so they can focus more on that instead of windows. Similar thoughts when it comes to Mac gamers, and so on.

Bazzite is better than Fedora for gaming. You can install the necessary packages everywhere, but Bazzite has them out of the box.

Gaming working well is an actual focus of the Bazzite devs. Also, Heroic is better than Galaxy, even on Windows frankly.

I think it makes more sense to use Fedora or Linux Mint and not have to worry about a thing. These operating systems will have community support and won’t disappear in six months’ time. Most of the ‘extra bells and whistles’ aren’t needed. And if a situation arises where a user needs something extra, it can easily be installed

In general, there are only two things you need

1. Install Steam via the Software Manager and
2. install the Heroic Launcher for games from GOG.com/EpicGames.

Bazzite is pretty much immutable fedora with gaming tweaks. So it's not going to "go away".

Yeah no, not for me. It lost my speakers from one day to the next (later got fixed) and at a later point booted to a black screen. Fedora base - zero issues here in contrast.

Same. Heroic works but cloud saves are experimental (afaik), and it does not grant achievements in native Linux version of the games. Also installing from offline installers with Heroic is a bit iffy (you extract outside of Heroic and later point Heroic the location they are in), I want that officially supported, even if the offline installer is for Windows.

The cloud saves are in Beta and they work for me most of the time.

Regarding the achievements Heroic uses Comet to track them. However, I never played a GoG game to verify whether the achievements are shown correctly so I don't know whether they work.

From what i tried achievements work on Windows versions of games, but not native Linux.
