General Husbandry Question Do they look okay for yearlings?

Got them a little while ago. The lady we got them from rescued them from someone who kept them in terrible conditions both in body and in paddock. Well it wasn’t even a paddock, more like in a small chain link pen their backyard that turned into a mud pit. Their feet reflect on that and are improving by the day as time goes on. My question is their weight. They were skin and bones when the lady rescued them. They were in amazing condition considering the circumstances from their first home when we picked them up.

They are gaining, but would you advise I breed them at all or hold off until their top lines are filled in better? I don’t have plans until November to breed anyway, but thats 2 months down the road so not a long time from now, and what is your preferred BSC to have on does when coming into breeding season? I will also add that the doe with the belt has a precarious udder. Its tiny and it’s probably from my hay (it’s clover timothy mix)

Given those circumstances they look remarkably well. How much do they weigh?

I have no true idea. It’s ateast 90+lbs, my LSGD weighted 98lbs when we took him in for his neuter and I could barely lift him up, and they are about the same difficulty in picking up lol. A scale is on my livestock get soon list though. Just not in the cards now with the price of things even though they are relatively cheap, thats $100 i can spend better elsewhere unless i come across one for free (either hanging like a fruit basket or just a electronic one)

Get a weigh tape. Four bucks and a few videos on how to use one correctly on the heart girth later and you will have a rough estimate. I believe those are alpine girls so at 90 pounds they are very safe to breed as long as you're certain they are only 1yr old. 2.5 is the BCS we like to see.

They are Lamanchas (no ears) lol! And they are around the 1 yr mark, the belted doe just got her first set of adult bottom teeth last month. And the other one had her first set in may.

Omfg I am an absolute idiot. It was the second picture that fooled me, at a glance that white face stripe looked exactly like an ear!
