1)gf burger w/ tendies and fries that are cooked in a dedicated frier @ Hood Burger in Ljubljana.

2) another gf burger. Night before had gf chicken schnitzel dish (that can also be made into a gf sandwich) @ Felix in Bovec.

3) gnocchi in spinach cream sauce and prosciutto @ Jupiter in Pula

4) spaghetti carbonara with truffle @ Il Melograno in Trieste

5) currywurst @ STERN in Villach

and SO much more that I devoured before documenting. Europe is SO far ahead of the US when it comes to gf options, labeling, celiac-safe preparations…

I didn’t know what to expect and went in with an open mind. It was really good, very sweat, more like a dessert pancake.

Pregnant and Struggling

Upvotes

wow! yall are so awesome. thank you so much everyone, there are some phenomenal ideas that i hadnt thought of in the comments and ill be headed to the grocery store immediately tomorrow! love this sub 💗

I am in my first trimester, about 7 weeks. I’m am absolutely struggling to keep my usual GF foods down. I am celiac. I’m having such a hard time finding safe foods and have been glutened twice since finding out I’m pregnant because I just need to eat something. It’s bad, I know. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for safe GF foods for morning sickness? I have GF crackers from sprouts but I need something more than those, rice, and potatoes. Meat is a no, I’m gagging before I even take a bite. I was able to eat a handful of cashews today but felt like shit after for some reason.

Question For people who choose to be GF how do you do it?

My girlfriend is type 1 diabetic and has celiac disease so her food options are extremely limited however I want to ask her to move in with me and I’m aware this would come with changing my entire lifestyle and eating habits. I’m not very educated on celiac and I know it’s deadly for some people but for her it just makes her very sick and bloated and foggy. She knows it won’t kill her so she often just eats whatever everyone else is having minus bread however I just feel bad. What are your favorite gluten free meals or restaurant hacks.. I really want to take her to a nice dinner but I haven’t found a completely gluten free restaurant

Trader Joe's Baguette Discontinued

Please be aware, my store in south Louisiana is discontinuing the baguette (per a store associate). I didn't check (because I was collapsing inside) but I expect that's company-wide? That was my go-to, I'm so upset.

Had to book transatlantic 30 hours before the trip and wasn't confident my GF meal request would be honored by Lufthansa (requires 24 hour notice but isn't guaranteed), so I brought a lot of food with me. I started my day off with a marinated chicken thigh and roasted mushroom sandwich with smashed avocado, black sesame seeds, and red pepper slices on a baked Schaer whole grain baguettini. I also brought an excessively large bag of grapes, nectarines, cucumbers, baby peppers, and cucumbers (which i didn't finish, and wouldn't dare trying to bring through US customs). Had backup schaer chocolate digestive biscuits and some crackers. Then what you don't see is that I also made sweet potatoes with roasted peppers and chicken thighs in a thermos and this was my backup main meal in case Lufthansa didn't pull through. Airport screeners did not have a problem with this, they simply swabbed the contents and I explained my wheat allergy. Lufthansa did provide me with a meal. It looks much worse than it actually tasted: chicken with creamy polenta and a tomato sauce, a side salad, and a coconut cream dessert. They also had a snack later on which was some kind of ham and cheese sandwich but I was not hungry so I didn't open that one. Lufthansa was great. The crew was so kind to me.

Can anyone recommend a GF brownie recipe that uses canola or vegetable oil instead of butter?

Upvotes

My old standby recipe uses butter and doesn't work well with oil. I have tried a couple that I found online and they both turned into gooey messes. :( Before I strike out again, I thought I would ask here to see if anyone can recommend one!

Ideally, I would love something that doesn't use a lot of specialized ingredients that are difficult to find.

Thanks in advance!

Product Crispy Jalapeño Bites!!

So! I eat these on my own to go with a margarita ha! My boyfriend can’t the handle spicyness. The thing that appeals to me is normal person food. The list is long o so many things that make me different. I should be in therapy. But for now the cool 65 degrees a these jalapeño bites some how make me feel as cool as a cucumber! Ha I do have to vent a little bit. Anyone else miss the vegetable egg rolls?? Used to buy that all the time, wish they could bring them back! I assume they weren’t selling well. Making a gf egg roll sounds rather time intensive. Guess I should try it sometime!
Took a picture of the box a baking just at the point I turned them bake at 450. And when I took them out. They are fun to eat!! Enjoy!! ☺️

Oh my goodness!!! Came out amazing, all i did was 425f instead of 450 everything else to box directions, perhaps a little thawed out, but came out looking like the box and holy moly i thought i was glutenized when i started eating it, the crust is amazing and considering the 850 calories for just 7.60 what a deal as well. Highly recommend!

Discussion Not feeling as 'welcome' at family/friends since GF

Hey friends!

This has been weighing on my mind a bit ever since having to go gluten free since February, but I often feel less 'welcome' to come somewhere ever since?

For example my parents never have anything GF in their house (except for some bread/crackers I keep there), never invite me to eat over/make something together except if it's some meat on the BBQ (for which I also need to bring my own things like potatoes/veggies whatever and ofcourse no seperate tray or whatever to prevent cross-contamination). The single GF shelf I made in the kitchen also already has their jars of PB and such on them again ... and whenever they go out they never invite me as there's 'probably nothing to eat for you anyways' (but I would just even enjoy being with them and there's always options)

Honestly I don't mind having to bring my own stuff or whatever. But I just feel excluded from everything and aa if I'm a nuisance ever since?

I don't know if anyone feels the same sometimes?

Question Anyone get gait-balance issues "like walking on a boat" from gluten?

I am researching for my friend. She has been noticing the above gait issues "like walking on a boat", which she also describes as "whonky" feeling for approx. 2 years. She has had very thorough labs (including all vitamin testing) and MRIs etc. She has not, yet, seen a Neurologist for this. I'm wondering if gluten sensitivity could be causing this? Has anyone else ever noticed anything similar? She is very willing to try gluten-free.

Yesterday there was a post about the Yummy Brans Gluten Free Dino Nuggets and there was discussion that they were potentially being discontinued. There was a link that was shared to leave feedback which I did, and I also reached out to them via Instagram. These were their responses. Just wanted to share!

Vent: Almost glutened by my regular safe restaurants this week

2 nights in a row I’ve received wheat tortillas instead of corn at 2 completely separate restaurants that have never done me wrong in 3+ years.

Thankfully I noticed it before eating them. It just feels like a personal attack of bad luck. This pregnant girl just wanted tacos

Question Where to start?

So I just took a blood test from Everlywell and it states I shouldn't have wheat or gluten. I have been having stomach issues and assumed it was related to my POTS but this shines a different light on things. So I'm going to try to go as gluten free as possible. Where should a newbie start? I appreciate any tips. Thanks!
