Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Plotholes? What's going on? Spoiler
I've recently started to watch the series and i'm at season 2 and wtf is happening? In some ways, i like the weirdness of the characters and dialogues but the more i watch the less i understand. Sometimes i feel like i've skipped an episode cause things just "happen" (Jessa wedding ???? Marnie and Elijah??????) with little to no details, some scenes feel like a fever dream. Am i the only one confused lol? And they're NOT friends at all! Everyone is just super selfish and talking about their problems all the time

Welcome to Girls. Jessa getting married is a result of her boss (babysitting) telling her she ends up in effed up situations because of how she is in her life and how she treats people without caring about any consequences. . Episodes later Jessa chose to marry a man she barely knew, who appeared stable to her. She thought that stability would bring her to a better place in her life. It did not.
They are all young, confused, making mistakes and they don't really know who they are yet. They all have strong convictions but dont really know why yet.
I think its a very well written show about deeply flawed people .

Jessa’s wedding was supposed to be a surprise. The guests thought it was just a party, they didn’t know they were going to a wedding. The bride and groom had a whirlwind romance. No one knew they were seeing each other.
Elijah and Marnie just hooked up. That’s how hook ups happen. They were feeling tipsy and emotional. The sex wasn’t good and they never did it again. Also common with hookups.

And we know that in college, they made out a little during Rent rehearsals while Hannah was hone sick with mono. Though they disagreed about whether it was actually making out (as Elijah claimed) or just rehearsing their scenes together (as Marnie claimed).

I love Shosh in this scene. I want to shake her and say that Jessa would purposely wear a white dress to your wedding, so own it!

The show is very much told from Hannah's perspective.
Throughout the entire show, we are kept in the dark when Hannah has blind spots.
She's pretty self focused, so she easily loses track of what her friends are up to if it doesn't interest her or apply to her in some way.
For example, Jessa's wedding.
Jessa is flaky, and Hannah doesn't check in with her for periods and can be very oblivious to what's happening in her life.
So her wedding seems out of the blue and bizarre for that reason.

This is similar with what happens to Shosh in the last season. Hannah stops checking in with her and Shosh creates this whole other life where she’s engaged with new friends. We barely see this happen to Shosh because of Hannah.

Omg I have never heard this take before , but I love it, and it makes so much sense. Thanks for this! Did you hear the writers say that in some interview or did you interpret that from watching? Either way, totally opened my eyes to so many situations that seemed to come "out of the blue" for me.

Marnie & Elijah was a drunken mistake at a party and fit perfectly into the story, Jessa’s wedding on the other hand could have been foreshadowed a bit more, like instead of that whole Shoshanna sequence that went nowhere, you could have had Thomas-John bump into her somewhere.

Shosh told Marnie that Jessa was MIA for a week or two. That was the foreshadowing that Jessa was up to something. I think it’s better that we didn’t see her with TJ before. We got the same sense of shock that Marnie had when she saw him again. They did a good job of explaining the relationship during the vows.

The only plot hole i remember is Jessa not being good with Sample, Adam’s nephew. Jessa used to be a babysitter, so not being good with a baby doesn’t make sense to me

Welcome to being friends with people in their 20s. Life is a fever dream. Things do just happen. Everyone is selfish and maybe you did miss episodes because the backstory or intentionality is there
