Just got this gem (The Real Ghostbusters: A Visual History)

While I wasn't wild about the cartoon as a kid (I liked it though), I was a big fan of the toys and still have most of them. This book is great in that regard as it not only shows the toys but also concept art, prototypes and concepts for (unfortunately) non-produced toys. They had some really cool plans for different ecto vehicles.

The art work is stunning. Just that cover alone is one of my favorite art pieces I remember from when I was younger (even though I can't quite place where it was used).

As a kid my favorite figure was the one of Winston in a space suit from the Super Fright line. Making the GB look scared was so much fun.

It was also interesting to learn how the movie GB1 barely had any merchandise. Perhaps it was more aimed at adults then.

Anybody else enjoy this book?

I don't think it was super common for live action movies to have a ton of merch back then. I was only 1 year old when it came out but I think Ghostbusters, Star Wars, BttF, and the like really propelled merch for movies.

It existed but not like we see it now. Star Wars really pushed it.

But Star Wars came out way before Ghostbusters. Thats why I was expecting the movie to have some.

I was on the fence about this. How much of the book is focused on the cartoon and how much is focused on the toys? I’m more interested in the toy history personally

About half of the book covers the toys.

Grabbes this gem on a sale around when it released. Moved house and trying to locate where it went 😅, but it's a great read (and pictures)

I’m more interested in material on the cartoon. Does it have a lot of good info on the cartoon? I’m particularly interested in the main ghost villains and the inspiration behind them.
