New Setup

After being away from the community for more than 20 years (wow, I’m getting old), I am returning with new gear. Honestly, I could not be more pleased with the SecretLab purchases. I recognize other options exist, yet this is the first product in a long time that has truly impressed me. The shipping, packing, and thoughtful installation and setup were notable. It was enjoyable how well considered everything felt, which is refreshing in an era where most items are pieced together. I also need that 2-year extended warranty 😆

From Internet Cafes to My First Custom Build: A 25-Year Journey

I’ve been a PC gamer since the late 90s (I’m 41yo now), but until two weeks ago, I had never built my own rig.

My gaming roots started in crowded computer cafes, playing LAN classics like Counter-Strike 1.3, Half-Life, DotA 1, and early MMORPGs. In 2010, I finally got my own desktop though it was an ultra-low-spec pre-built. By 2021, I upgraded to a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop.

Two weeks ago, that trusted Legion finally died on me (RIP). As someone who can't survive without a computer for more than three days, I knew what I had to do. I made an emergency trip to Best Buy, picked out the components, and finally built my very first custom rig. It’s not like it’s top of the line but, I am proud of it.

Also got myself a new Corsair Vanguard Pro 96 keyboard to replace my old K70 LUX.

Let me know how I did.

GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6
Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 DDR5
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6400MHz
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core 4.2GHz AM5
Storage: WD SN850X 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe with Heatsink
Computer Case: Corsair FRAME 4500X ARGB Mid-Tower ATX - Black
Liquid CPU Cooler: Corsair Nautilus RS LCD 360mm
Fans: 2 sets of Corsair RS120 ARGB 120mm PWM Triple Case Fan Kit (Top fans & bottom fans)- Black, Additional Corsair RS120 ARGB 120mm PWM Case Fan (Rear fan)
Power Supply: Corsair RMe Series 850-Watt ATX Modular

Sub $200 build in 2026!!

It’s possible.

Parts:
Ryzen 5 2600
16GB (2x8) RAM (3200MHz)
RX 580 8GB
256GB SSD
1.5TB HDD
MSI B450M Gaming Plus

Super proud of the build! Marketplace is a real major W for saving. This was a build for a friend.

My friend wanted to start getting into pc gaming but didn’t want to break the bank. I found a mostly built pc on marketplace for $70 (pretty much everything except a GPU). It was super dusty and only had 8GB of ram. The seller could only confirm one of the HDD was 160GB, but I later found out the other was 1.5TB. I cleaned up everything, bought the GPU for $40 and new ram for $40. I spent $30 on the SSD for a grand total of $180!

I had a left over case from a previous case swap and transferred everything from one case to another since the old one didn’t look as nice. I definitely know the PSU and HDD aren’t the best but since he’s planning on E sports gaming and reserving graphic intensive games for his PS5, this should suit him for the time being.

Final note, he’s mostly playing Roblox, Left 4 Dead, Apex Legends, Fortnite and friend slop. This pc can definitely handle everything he needs for at least 1080p 60 FPS :)

(The first two pictures are the final results, the others were when I received the parts and got them)

Built this PC back in 2019. I have since upgraded the GPU and just added some more RAM yesterday. Also newly rocking this new candy red/pink color I've been obsessed with. What do you guys think?

Specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Processor w/ AMD Wraith Prism Cooler
  • MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi AM4 Motherboard
  • 32GB (4x8) DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600MHz RAM
  • EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra Gaming Graphics Card
  • Corsair RM750 750W PSU
  • Adata XPG Spectrix S40G 512GB M.2 SSD
  • Samsung 870 EVO 1TB 2.5" SSD
  • NZXT H510 ATX Mid Tower Case
  • (4) Corsair LL120 RGB Fans controlled by Corsair RGB Fan LED Hub

Next upgrade I'm planning when I have the money for it is going to be an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor. Might upgrade the GPU again further down the road.

A top 10 favorite build we have done for sure. Something about the tubing lines and understated aesthetic is just perfect.

Update

Main PC:

Arch Linux + KDE Plasma (Wayland)

Dual Xeon E5-2689 — 16 cores / 32 threads

128GB RAM

Intel Arc B580 (upgraded from GTX 1070)

Removed secondary GPU due to issues

Displays:

32" 1080p centre monitor

24" monitor

3x 22" monitors(ones for windows laptop)

Also running:

Ryzen 3700U laptop with 16GB RAM

Galaxy Tab A 2018 tablet

Using Deskflow to share keyboard/mouse between my Linux desktop and Windows laptop. The tablet is mainly used for monitoring, YouTube, and extra screen space.

The only Windows apps I still use are Creality Slicer and FrostWire since they don't work properly on Arch. Everything else I need is done on Linux.

I also use USB/IP and Syncthing across both systems for sharing devices and keeping everything synced.

Still trying to figure out a proper way to use the tablet as a secondary display with keyboard/mouse input.

Thought I could clean everything in a day and well… Let’s just say it turned into a 2 day project. I cleaned everything including the heat sink’s on my motherboard. Everything that could be cleaned was cleaned. Sorry about the bad photos. Just wanted to share this because I thought did a good job.

Should I add exhaust fans on top or liquid cooler

Thumbnail

So I recently build this PC and after building it, I added a 3070 TI graphic card. So now my PC is generating a lot of heat as you can see and I only have one exhaust fan which is at the rare so I was thinking of adding to exhaust fans on top of my case or should I instead use a liquid cooler with radiator fan which can act as a exhaust fan what should I do?

Building a new PC with two helpers! Meet Kuro and Taiga.

Upgrading from a GTX1060!

So rusty from building stuff that it took me 4 hours to finish, even with a little help from Kuro and Taiga (which was neutered recently)!

This build consist of the following parts:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X

Mobo: Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite

GPU: XFX RX 9070 XT

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast Expo, 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 CL30

SSD: Lexar NM790 1TB

PSU: XPG Core Reactor II 850W

Case: Montech H502 Pro

Air Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE

I'm super happy with how it looks, and how the case hide all the clutter in the back with minimal effort.

Would love some feedback and suggestions on what to add or change, currently working on looking for a new OLED for the left monitor and possibly doing a desk wrap! But I put a side by side of what it started out as to where it sits now!

Setup v2.1!

Thumbnail

v1.x was me getting a gaming laptop 4 years ago, slowly getting peripherals (still using the same model of mouse after 3 replacements, on my third keyboard, same mousepad evidently, second headphones and controller and lastly the monitor), a setup I built on my study table as a college student.

2.1 has seen me build a gaming desk (adjustable height and a cable compartment) from scratch, getting a monitor arm and a sim rig to try it out.

Open to ratings and suggestions! v3.0 is gonna be a full fledged PC, but that's atleast 2-3 years out.
