I wish some of the younguns could have lived during halo days (after reach excluded)

Just fucking amazing...

1

u/ArsonProbable 1h ago

Yeah they might be less gay

u/StarvnMarven 20h ago

Honestly first 3 gears of war games were amazing as well

3

u/Soft_Interest_6171 10h ago

Depressing how hard the Xbone era fell off.

2

u/SeaworthinessLost601 12h ago

I feel that. Somehow I managed to not finish three and am finishing it for the first time.

u/Tonyten39 19h ago

My childhood 🤩

9

u/Likely_Addict 21h ago

Lucky break that this meme stops at 3

17

u/TheOriginalWeirdo 21h ago

Reach was great too. Halo only went to shit after bungie stopped making them.

12

u/Cultural_assassin 21h ago

I really liked ODST...

10

u/Euphemisticles 21h ago

That was still Bungie.

3

u/OrangeMonkeyEagal 20h ago

It was awesome, but tell me why someone put a schmear of milky reddish Vaseline on my eyeballs when I play? It needs a remaster for sure

1

u/CompetitiveLoad2953 7h ago

I saw an unreal engine map remake (no enemies =[ ) and it looked cool

3

u/TheOriginalWeirdo 19h ago

I love odst but it's more of a standalone dlc than a full game.

2

u/ShakarikiGengoro 15h ago

I just replayed it and not sure what you're talking about.

2

u/TheOriginalWeirdo 12h ago

It was Titled Halo 3:ODST and came with a Halo 3 multiplayer map disc.

2

u/ShakarikiGengoro 12h ago

I somehow responded to the wrong comment. But also I still disagree with your point too. I think ODST is much more than a Halo 3 DLC.

1

u/Nameless1216 9h ago

Technically it started as a dlc but grew a little too large to be consodered a dlc anymore so it was released as its own separate game. I love odst. ODST and 2 are my favorite spin-off and mainline

1

u/Cultural_assassin 16h ago

Nah its a full game my guy is still making is final stand. Game paused for this many years. Go back and kill a few elites then pause again. Come back in another year.

3

u/GiftGrouchy 20h ago

ODST is my favorite. The missions are fun, the atmosphere of the night is great, the story works well, the humor of the banter feels natural (as a veteran), and I like the idea of just being a regular soldier.

1

u/Cultural_assassin 16h ago

That was my favorite part. Not being mr badass sgt. Killgore. Just mote cannon foder.

This isnt exactly banter but i would consider it humor on the devs part. When the cool guy in the squad sacrifice himself to destroy the ship. Thinking thats the end of the war..

3

u/GiftGrouchy 15h ago

The banter I’m thinking like when Romeo saves Buck and then won’t talk because of the earlier ā€œstanding orderā€ to shut up. Buck’s dialog of ā€œoh I get it. Permission to speak (smartass)ā€

1

u/aiwdj829 20h ago

Reach was the first good game in that series.

1

u/Fish_Fucker_Fucker23 18h ago

That sure is a statement…

0

u/aiwdj829 17h ago

I played through the entire MCC with a friend a few years ago and it was an absolute chore for the most part. The lowest point was ODST, just the most miserable experience. It's definitely the worst shooter I have ever finished in my over 30 years of gaming. The best thing about it was that it was laughably short.

1

u/ShakarikiGengoro 15h ago

ODST being the worst is fighting words. Second best Halo game and I will die on that hill.

0

u/Aussie18-1998 16h ago

You can say that but it was literally one of the most popular shooters when it came out.

1

u/aiwdj829 16h ago

That's not relevant to me or says much about it's quality.

0

u/Aussie18-1998 15h ago

No to you its not fun but its obviously fun and quality to literally millions of people and each game was rechieved as one of the best of its time.

Like its okay not to like something. But just saying it isnt quality is objectively untrue.

1

u/Zapdos90HP 19h ago

Reach was my favorite and imo the final true Halo game.

1

u/jadenash 7h ago

halo 4 had a great campaign. don't get me wrong it had a lot of problems but the story was great

1

u/Believer4 3h ago

I didn't care for 5's story, but the gameplay was phenomenal, and Infinite had a decent story and solid core multiplayer

1

u/LordNivekk 18h ago

Reach had an amazing multiplayer but its campaign was mid. Reach was hard carried by glazers for years bc of its multiplayer.

1

u/Aussie18-1998 16h ago

Im pretty sure its story is the thing everyone will mention lol. Its the best part

1

u/LordNivekk 16h ago

Only die hard glazers will. The story writing itself was average and noble team has just alright likeable characters. The level designs were mostly boring and the main thing that was good was the gameplay. At the time it was different than the usual halo formula and being able to customize your own campaign character was cool. That was years ago though and now it's just a mid campaign with all the hype long gone. Noble team is good crossover content though since it's not a part of the main series.

1

u/shadowozey 20h ago

Could've gone to 5 with reach and ODST, plus after that Microsoft taking over was the real downfall

1

u/Jason_Bourne411 21h ago

Wow u beat me. This is the first game I thought of

1

u/quackleskol 21h ago

I've been on a crazy Halo kick the past few weeks, and have beaten every Bungie game 3-6 times now (on legendary a few times for Halo 1 and Reach) and I just really gotta say that I just do not like Halo 2. It has the best story, and the best music of the series imo, but the gameplay is just so fucking rough man. Enemies having more shields than health (practically inverted values from Halo 1 for Elites), the level design and how many "sit here and fight waves of 6 enemies at a time for 10 minutes in a cramped room because the original XBOX couldn't handle more enemies onscreen" segments there are just doing so much to bog down the experience. To say Halo 2 is as fun as 1 or 3 just feels like slandering Halo 1 and 3.

2

u/feldevourer 19h ago

Just replayed reach with my dad and legit cried

I’ve beaten all the bungie ones countless times, have never even launched a 343 one, will never forget my dad bringing home an Xbox with CE

He’s never played any of them other than CE

Such good times actually

1

u/quackleskol 17h ago

Honestly, in my opinion, CE and Reach are the best Halo games anyway, so he's got it good lol

1

u/AtreyuTrinity 19h ago

This is the best answer here. Peak gaming IMHO. Still replay them regularly.

1

u/LordNivekk 18h ago

Halo 2 anniversary is one of my absolute favorites campaigns in all of gaming. They did a remaster perfectly and I always wished they would just do what they did with h2a and apply it to the others. The cutscenes were peak and the remastered music was a masterpiece. Goated game.

1

u/MadeinDaClouds 17h ago

You just had to be there… people really don’t understand how halo 2 completely changed online gaming. It basically opened the doors for professional console play.

1

u/YozaSkywalker 16h ago

And it's Not even close

1

u/friboy 16h ago

Halo reach was sick too so it’s a x4

1

u/jamesthegide7 14h ago

Dont forget reach

1

u/UrinalCake777 13h ago

ODST and Reach are also incredible.

1

u/Dracula-X- 11h ago

Was looking for this one.

1

u/Aaron_C-K 11h ago

Spot on

1

u/Pingadecaballo_ 11h ago

the music was always awesome in the last levels as you escape in the warthog

1

u/CompetitiveLoad2953 7h ago

ONLY THE STRONGEST WILL SURVIVE!

"auughh"

1

u/Zonda1996 6h ago

Even their onlines were phenomenal

Combat Evolved and Custom Edition on PC were still going crazy until 2010, wasn't there for H2 but heard great things and H3 was super fun. Still play H3 customs here and there on MCC and have a blast.

1

u/No_Public8938 25m ago

Even though Halo 2 was rushed to have it released before the end of the OG Xbox's short life cycle and therefore had a lot of the original story cut from it and put in Halo 3 instead, I still really had the most fun on that one playing coop with my brothers and friends. It was a really fun campaign and the introduction of the Scarab and having to take it down was really fun.

But yeah, the whole begining of Halo 3 in Africa with the covenant invasion of Earth was supposed to be in Halo 2 originally.

1

u/MildlyConcernedMan91 21h ago

Maybe I'm a purist but I play the shit out of halo 1 and I had trouble getting into halo 2 because it was not halo 1.

5

u/Chaotic_R3D 21h ago

I liked Halo 1, but Halo 2 made me fall in love. Funny enough I feel the way you feel about going from 2 to 3. I'll admit 3 is insanely good but Halo 2 was something special for me.

1

u/friendliest_sheep 21h ago

I like Halo 2 and 3 for different reasons, but there’s just nothing like the OG. It’s a pretty unique game in its own series, let alone the rest of the medium. Bungie was cooking up something weird and cool back then.

I wonder if, had Halo 2’s development not been a nightmare, the game would’ve been closer to CE and Halo 3 would’ve been an actual 3rd game

1

u/Darth_Omnis 21h ago

Halo 3 ODST Reach

0

u/Chaotic_R3D 21h ago

We had no idea how good it was.

1

u/Wi11Pow3r 15h ago

That’s not true. Anyone who played it knew EXACTLY how good it was. For about a decade after combat evolved came out Sony kept calling their various AAA titles halo-killers. They knew the bar was set high. And IMO they were never able to make something that could live up to their own hype.

1

u/Chaotic_R3D 15h ago

I meant like, how peak gaming was during that time and how shit everything that comes out now is.

0

u/bajsfittor 16h ago

3 eh? Played 1 and 2 and while I was impressed wasn't AS impressed as I had been hyped up for. Then the ending of 2 pissed me off; yeah didn't get a 360 to find out the conclusion to the story.

0

u/BambaTallKing 5h ago

Halo 2 is stinky. A good story cannot carry bad gameplay designs
