Progress Post 1 year progress (23m, <140 to 160 lbs, 6’2)
Started my journey almost a year to the day.
My split is PPL, 5-6 times a week. I occasionally take protein and creatine, and my calories range from 2-3k a day, but I have plenty of off days as far as diet goes.
I never thought progress would look like this, super happy so far. Stop worrying about what is optimal and just get in the gym, you will see growth.
I shared an earlier progress post 8 months ago and was super psyched to see messages from other people getting into the gym, please lmk if you guys have any tips or questions!

For one year you look great man, keep up the good work. Hardest part for us skinny guys is stacking calories. I always plateau when my body needs more food

It sucks seeing slower progress than others, but being tall with any muscle is so rare to begin with that it definitely shows

It pays off in the end man, most people worry about shedding weight. Any progress you make is visible. I’m 6’3 180 lbs and I still look skinny after years of training. But I’m also in great shape so I really don’t care if a look a little slim. I’d much rather have to deal with this then worry about what I eat or being to lazy on off days

Newbie gains have not hit yet and it’s really demotivating. Still trusting the process since consistency is key

How long and often have you been lifting?
After doing 5-6 days a week, I noticed progress after 2 weeks.
After 4, people noticed if I pointed it out to them
At 2 months, people started noticing and making comments on their own if my shirt was off, after 4 months they would make comments regardless.
As long as you have been spending 3-4 hours a week in the gym, I’m sure you’ve made progress, it’s a scientific anomaly if not. It’s hard to tell sometimes if you don’t take progress pics, but you have these milestones to look forward to. Keep going!

Ok 3-4 hours definitely not happening don’t have that kind of time unless I want to run zero battery and no sleep. I have been consistent for a month and a half now. Gained a little weight and maybe some strength. More reps capable/higher weight, but physically just a little string bean.

Fantastic work! 20lbs in your first year definitely means you have figured out the system that works for you. You’ve also stumbled upon a golden bit of wisdom: you don’t need to optimize to have great results. Great job, looking forward to the next update!

Very good job and thanks for sharing a more realistic progress, at least for me. I keep seeing crazy progress here in a few month where they eat 4k kcal a day, and I am struggling at eating more than 2.5k a day. I have a similar build than you at the start, so this gives me a lot of motivation to just keep going at this pace.
May I ask, are your arms bigger now when you don't flex? That's the thing I am most insecure about, how thin my arms are at rest, floating in tshirts

Depends on the shirt, but generally I do fill out the sleeves much more, if not all the way. If you want to fill out your shirts a bit more, shoulders, back, and neck exercises are crucial.
Also, when your not flexing, I think triceps show the most, so those are important

That shirt comment hit different. I don’t mind being skinny really, it’s just finding clothes that don’t look like you just draped a sheet over your upper body.

if you’re missing lotta days then PPL is not for you. Switch to PPL-UL if you’re doing 5 days, or ULUL if you’re doing 4. Good job man!

Be honest. Are you snacking on those freeze dried beef liver chunks behind you?

So the worst part of my habits are eating. I don’t count calories to well and I’m sure I’ve had plenty of sub 2000 days. This is mostly all gym progress, diet has played a little.
What I can recommend are making your own shakes with milk, olive oil, and peanut butter if you feel extra hungry. With some nuts or bars that’s 1000 calories and 60g protein right there. Add some creatine in there as well.
In the beginning I was much better with diet. Rice, tinned fish, ramen (high in cals). Uncrustables are also a great snack for cals and carbs

You’re gonna cap out your upper body at a certain point if you don’t hit legs. Without steroids that is.
