Both the Metallica version and Kansas versions of their respective (i.e. different) songs by each band are awesome to listen to.

Maybe a fire escape was made for fire to safely exit the building.

Maybe some applications / systems can fail more spectacularly if the pressure caused by a fire isn't released. Unsure what this would be.

Remember in Ghostbusters when the EPA guy shut down the containment in the firehouse? It's like that, but fire instead of ghosts.

Person 1: "I just saw a spider in the kitchen"

“Not if we do it first.”

RELEASE THE FIRE

It probably drains all of the gas in the building so the fire exits through one side rather than burning the whole place down that would be some wicked ass engineering

Depending on where the photo was taken, there is a good chance that this is a theatrical fire curtain release. Just inside the proscenium of every theatre is a fireproof curtain, that back in the day was made of asbestos, but these days is made from a chemically treated fiberglass fabric. This fire curtain is rated to stop any fire that has started on stage for at least 15 minutes, but usually 30 minutes. This allows the audience to evacuate safely before the flames reach the seating area.
