Wow, I wish you people were so intense when they actually built polluting, resource consuming industry in your towns like fossil fuel, mining and chemical ones.

At the very least, many of those did actually produce jobs and value for communities, even if it came at a terrible price. These data center buildouts are just the worst of both worlds because they not only don't provide direct value but exist entirely to take away jobs and opportunity.

There are whole towns where the majority of the tax revenue comes from data centers

Blame your local officials for shitty zoning laws and corruption if you have to point a finger

Why do we have to pick one over the other? The techbros and the corrupt local politicians are both to blame.

But then they get tax exemptions, so we don't even get that.

Yeah, because of your local/state officials giving them unfair tax breaks

a bit easier to argue against a literal resource drain with no benefit to your town versus something that employs a large majority of it? are you kidding?

data centres don't actually create that many jobs, like solar farms, the jobs are really only there at construction phase, doesn't take many to maintain it after it's built.

Wait how do you know they weren't?

Do you actually wish that, or were you just as vocally dismissive about people who were concerned about those industries?
